2007 Chevy Impala VERY Slow Acceleration, Hesitation, and Lurching

- The eventual solution is below...
SYMPTOMS - Extremely slow acceleration, especially from stop. Almost embarrassing at a stop sign or red light. On the freeway, it would get up to 60 or 65 but would occasionally drop to 55 and not go above.
WHAT ELSE I TRIED - I gave it a tune-up (changed spark plugs and wires).
- Changed the oil.
- Cleaned the Mass Intake Air Sensor.
- Changed the air filter.
- Changed the evap solenoid.
SOLUTION - I added transmission fluid. After the previous attempt, I drove the car around. It seemed worse, plus I started hearing a straining noise that I hadn't heard before. I looked up how to check the transmission fluid and discovered that it was almost empty. After adding a few quarts, the car immediately worked fine.

youTube comment section is a life saver. I had the same problem with my 06 impala, and I changed out the solenoid and it solved nothing. I took the car to several shops and got no result. I eventually parked the car for over a year contemplating to junk it. I have seen so much comments for this problem. I followed my gut feeling about the recommendation on here to change the trottle body sensor. I changed the entire trottle body and my car is working amazing. total cost for parts and labor was $340, It was worth it to have my car back on the road.

I had the same issue with my '06 Impala. Took it to the dealer and they determined that it was a "body sensor module" that needed to be replaced. They replaced it and it ran perfectly after that.
How much was that

“BCM” Body control module.
I had the same problem. I changed the mass flow air sensor and it turned out to be the throttle position sensor. Problem solved for me
My '12 impala is sometimes slow to accelerate but the transmission fluid was leaking a little over time. Just put in a little transmission fluid and it fixes the problem.
The impalas have been known to have faulty transmission shift solenoids on 1st and 2nd gear..thats why u have no issues at higher speeds.
yeah once i open it up it doesnt jolt or surge until i get back to idle and first, that may be it
There’s a kit for the 4T65-E that makes it shift better. Those shitty solenoids are notorious for making the 4T65 slip in first especially.

Have similar problems with high mileage. Lurching and rpm dropping to 1k around those same speeds. Gonna gamble and replace throttle position sensor on throttle body. Lots of people seem to say that's what it is.
Check your transmission fluid first.

@@SavYogz mine ended up being spark plug number one having hairline crack causing alot of misfires. All fixed now.
Number one issue I've been noticing with 2006-2011 impalas are the gas pedals failing which have to do with the throttle position sensor. Put a new gas pedal, change your spark plugs, I recommend AC Delco iridium's, change your spark plug wires same brand, and your car should run excellent. If that doesn't work then now where talking fuel system components. Fuel filter replacement, or possibly the pump. Hopefully the tune up fixes it. That's way cheaper then replacing fuel pump
my sister change the throttle position sensor and the battery the air filter we're going to change the spark plugs and wires and we change the engine oil and put a new filter. so do i change the pcv valve and the fuel filter do i have to change the gas pedal as well
I would start by examining the throttle body. In particular the idle speed motor, as the bendix my have become sized by carbon buildup. Your MAF sensor should be on the passenger side, carefully lift that out as they are prone to breaking quite easily. Once the MAF, sensor is removed, carefully lift your PCV out and inspect it. It should rattle when shaken. An oily film is normal. But if its drowning in oil, but still rattles. Replace it. Finally. Don't start randomly replacing parts without bench testing them as that can get unnecessarily expensive. Once you have confirmed the suspected part is not at fault. Check the connection with a multimeter.
I have an 09 Impala that had the similar problem. I would get to a red light and once it turn green I would accelerate and it would do the same thing plus mine would jerk. I was told it was some sensor that was inside the trans that was getting stuck. I thought it was the trans so I went to autozone and bought an additive named TransX. It comes in a yellow bottle and it costs like $15 plus tax. I put 2 bottles in mine and it worked.
I am having the same problem. No lights are on the dash. Mine is an 08 with 67k miles on it. I'm at a red light, push on the gas and it accelerates slowly then has a nasty jerk that will give you whiplash. Do you think the TransX will fix my problem as well??
DJ X honestly it worked for mine. I had called a trans shop and was told that in order to changes that sensor the trans had to be dropped. I was was giving a quote over the phone of $1200. After I put the first bottle I notice a little difference right away. After I started driving it for like 50miles or so it got better. I decided to put another bottle after like the 2nd week and right now I’m taking off from a red light/stop sign at 3000rpms/3500rpms something that I wasn’t able to do before. Your car has very low miles. Mine had about 130k at that time. I do a lot of driving on mine. At the moment I have 156k. I put 3000miles every 2 1/2weeks. That TransX saved me hella of money.
I hate auto shops they ripp people of every day.... It's not necessary to drop tranny if you really want a mechanic to help people out not ripp people off.....

Few things. Change pedal sensor, clean or replace throttle bottle, mass sensor and or check the cat. Also could be the transmission.
i have a 2013 impala and around 60, 000 miles i had to replace transmission control module , and then in under 2 years i was having problems again with tranny , turns out to be low circut pressure switch and its in tranny , torgue converter issues . not keeping this car no longer once i find different vechile
Very common issue in 2006 to 2011 impalas is the failings throttle piston sensor ( gas pedal).

My impala. 08 with 300 thousand miles. It was idling horrible, then a light read engine power reduced after a while. It didnt start. I spend $8 on throttle body cleaner, took it off, sprayed it on. Put it back on. . It started right up. It was dirty. Its not enough air flow, while gas is still entering at the same ratio.

From what I've been watching it's a speed sensors. I was looking to change the transmission speed sensor and this one popped up about the abs wheel speed sensor and it sounds a lot like your problem
its probably starting in 2nd gear like mine , i manually downshift to 1st at lights and it goes into 1st then .
So i have a 2011 chevy Impala and when im at a full stop it jerks trying to get its full power and sometimes it would die completely and only go like 2 mph and my rpms are high when i step on the gas. And theres no check engine light that pops on either
My 07 ltz trans slipped years ago. Put some Lucas Oil Transmissions fix in, problem fixed from then on.
I have a 2007 impala 149000 miles .No check engine light on but the speedometer was going crazy,I lost acceleration and now my car stalls and reads speed 107 mph.i got a diagnostic and it said I need a speed sensor. I THEN CHANGED THAT and now my car is still stalling if I go over 45mph and still reading speed limit 107mph .I have had a tune up and oil change.HELPMe Mechanics Are Robbing me plz.
Take it to Chevy and trade it in
It could depend on the body or the pump inside or your tick timing isn't right in your car some cars have that and dealer ships would cost a lot of money for a lame body or possibly part when it's just a wrong tik time in your car that hasn't been set correctly

So I had the abs sensor come on & reduced to half power the other day on hour half trip to pick up GF from work. That happened Half way.. 9 miles from getting to her work it died & I pulled over with flashers went to start & it now said engine power DISABLED..
I’ve seen videos on here saying everything from replace TPS to replace pedal to trans cellanoid etc. I do know ours has been slow leaking Tran fluid so I didn’t buy the sealer the guy above mentioned I’m going to put it in right now..
But I also bought the TPS $53 because at first that’s what every video I saw said it was. I haven’t installed it yet because now I keep seeing people say it’s the pedal APS $112-$120 for the Duralast part... I’m willing to replace both if it is both but money is tight right now so I don’t want to replace them for the sake of replacing them but afraid I may have to. The local shop has 1 APS in stock for $120 that I could grab tomorrow & I already have the TPS.
I guess what I’m asking is is there one that I should start with before the other?... or one more than likely candidate over the other?... because if I can return TPS or install it & not get APS I’d obviously like to do that. Of course when I was able to restart the vehicle & pick her up then take it easy for hour half home... it didn’t come back on & hasn’t again in past two days driving to AutoZone & back.
So the check engine light is currently the only light on (well, besides the unrelated other problem everyone with GM has... the Tire Pressure Sensor only reading front left & rear right but other 2 tires have “- -, - -“ suggestions welcome for this as well... do I really have no sensors or bad sensors in the blank 2 or is the reader wrong? Or will simply performing that relearn tire position feature, fix this problem... Because I’m unaware if they are just bad or what because she bought it used 6 months ago & it’s been like that since we got it.) & the scan took at store read p2138 which comes out as Throttle/Accelerator Pedal Sensor confusing part there is ok fine but that means it must have been bad the entire time I guess but an entirely different light came on simultaneously with the problem occurring & it going into limp mode, which was the service traction control system light. & now that it’s not on I think that’s why it’s not signaling the TPS as the problem but I think it is? & I think it’s the one that more likely to leave her in reduced power mode or disabled on side rode mode by herself vs the APS seems to just leave you going slow or car jerky but she can make it home If that problem comes up again? Of course it’s 10:30pm satrlurday & she goes back to work for the week & leaves tomorrow 6:30am! SMH so I guess I’m gonna go out here freeze finger tips off & pray it’s not for nothing & fixes the problem. Or do neither yet.. carry part on me in the car & drive her hour n half to work tomorrow try to get other part & get it on & test things out (¿somehow?) around town during the day, until I have to go hour half to pick her up by 4:30pm. Worry there is I got the car half apart by then & don’t have a way to go pick her up at work until I get it working properly or at least as it was today to pick her up.

@@brucek8934 what year? And I do highly recommend changing those. They are two steps in the right direction. It's a very common gm thing. Also please clean throttle body. Replace air filter/fuel filter. And I would run high test gas for now.
@@adrianalan3232 ok I wasn’t sure if suddenly running high test was ok when it always gets 87, plus flex fuel model eek though we never put flex fuel in it...thank you. Ok either one you’d try first? I have both but if I could save money & not do both I’d like to... have to get them in tonight thoug even if I’m up all night lol
Im havjng this problem with my 08 Infiniti, when I come to a complete stop and gas it, it slowly pulls off but it catches up speed after a while

I have a 2011 Chevy Impala what's the same issues the problem is the transmission pressure solenoid is no good.
Its your speed sensor thats failed it needs to be replaced its an easy replacment its on the side of your front passenger wheel. Take off the wheel and you will see it . It has one screw and one wire pluged into it.
The thing is I have no check engine.. a sensor should throw it off??

mine has this hesitation.. when im driving along, say 40 50, even on cruse at 65... then when i try to get on the gas, i get this hesitation. if i keep pressing the gas pedal the Stabil trc light comes on.. so i let off the gas when i feel it starting to hesitate and the light wont come on.. a few times when i start the car it feels like it wants to stall out... I thought i was maybe mass airflow. i cleaned that. cleaned the throttle body. so fast foreward a week, i changed the spark plugs and wires..problem solved. sorta. now when the car is in park or idle the RPM drops and stalls out. this car has never done that.. could it need time for the TPS sensor to relearn, since it may have adjusted to the bad spark plug?
That's interesting. I've never had the stabilic light come on. The issue from the video seemed to be solved by adding then replacing all of the transmission fluid.
However, now, it's still hesitant, apparently until the transmission fluid warms up. Even if I let it warm for a while, it's going to be very slow from a stop sign for the first few minutes.
Mines is doing the same so by changing the spark plugs should be good?

Mine is doing the same thing and I did the same thing you did cleaning and changing spark plugs and coils. Still acts up
2016 Impala, tonight at 3:AM the car jerked, jerked, jerked. And check engine light came on. It was giving gas. But not moving in gear. Basically like I was in N the whole time.
Was it the throttle sensor?
@@davidb9114 It was the transmission, we got it fixed, but the same day when we picked it up, I stopped at a autozone to get some cleaner and when I tried to start it, it wouldn't crank. Eventually we traded it in for a 2021 Toyota RAV4 which is what I currently drive. Next year we will switch to the 2022 Highlander.

Hey bud.. I'm having the same problem with my 07...from red light and step on gas.. it's like you punch it and nothing... till like you said.. after 35 miles then it gets going.. already did a oil replacement.. level seems good.. ..wondering if the evap and mass flow need to be replace..??
Same problem, press the gas peddle and it drags too pick up but eventualy does pick up

Usually on a cold start, my 2007 impala revs high with no throttle response, then suddenly it slams into first gear. I wonder if it is the same issue
Its an electrical short in the wheel hubs.

@@soulsliderlost1045 because the sensors inside the hub arent sending the right message to the computer. Causing it to not shift.. my impala had tons of bad wires due to bad waterpumps and leaking oil.. some of those wires get grounded.. throwing off the vehicle's computer
I replaced the whole throttle body and sensor, no difference. Now it's gotten worse. Does fine at idle. Works better at higher speeds. Runs TERRIBLY at 35-45mph. So it has to be transmission is my guess.
I have a 2004 impala 3.4liter v6 when I put it in reverse to back up it starts jumping back an forth real bad and I was coming up a medium incline hill about a mile long and it sounded like it was knocking I thought I blowed the motor up

Can anybody help with this car. It runs. Start it up put in drive and it go. When you come up on a stop sign and stop. The car just sets the it’s still running but doesn’t move. You have to turn the car off. Then start it up put it in drive and it will go. Then if you are driving on the highway it will slow down and you will have to turn off the road. It all so has a noise on the top of the motor. It should not be there. All it’ Chevy Malibu.
I had the same color in my 2002 Chevy Malibu once I hit the hills my RPMs start jumping and jumping and it slips to 2nd to 3rd gear what is wrong what can I do with it

Might be gas peddle. Sends signals to ecm.change the whole assembly

My personal opinion is I don't think it has nothing to do with the transmission and I don't think it's a gas problem if I was a betting man I put my money on losing fire that's the problem

Yeah I had to replace both of my speed sensor now my transmission is slipping when it gets hot but if I turn car off and back on it will go back in gear u have any clue why please

Its usually the sensor on the gas pedal ....but u can get all three parts online for 113 dollars guaranteed to fix it

mine has this hesitation.. when im driving along, then try to get on the gas, ill feel a rumble sound then get this hesitation. if i keep pressing the gas pedal the Stabil trc light comes on.. so i try to let off the gas when i feel it starting to hesitate and the light wont come on.. a few times when i start the car it feels like it wants to stall out... I thought i was maybe mass airflow. i cleaned that. no luck.. any thoughts?

I have a 2007 chevy impala ls and when I hit 3500 rpms or my rev limiter at 4000 rpms my service traction control comes on and my car shifts very hard. When I stop and turn the car off and back on the light goes away and my car shifts fine. Anyone know what is wrong?
What's wrong is Chevy Impalas are not good cars. Think about that when purchasing a car .

How do I know If it's that or the solenoid pressure switch? Drives in 2 but drive does not go in the first few gears
I'm sure it's the fuel pressure regulator. Replace that and do not put a after market one, get the original.

I noticed the RPMs are going way high and you're not gaining much speed looks like it's a transmission problem take it to the transmission shop you may want to check the transmission fluid see if it's burnt it's black or something if the fluid is really dark black brown then you definitely have a transmission problem

I have a 2013 impala too with miles way under 100k. It jerks too. What was the problem in yours the sensor in the transmission?

its just if i start the car up and start driving it , it does about 4 to 5 small jerks , or if im in park waiting for a long train , then place into drive it will happen , so usually if i start the car up , or place in park for a period of time with engine idle then place into drive it will happen ..

I suspect my '08 Impala's fuel filter is at least partly to blame for my acceleration issue. Do you know if it is possible to remove the fuel pump, clean the filter and reinstall? I checked the pressure from the pump and it checked out "ok" so I would rather not spend money I don't need to on a new pump.

Nah its the motor in the back of the car. Its needs to be cleaned. I thought it was the transmission at first but they had told me motor was dirty inside and needed a new one
The push you need for acceleration wont go through because of backed up dirt from exhaust pipe to motor

@@tommyfoster762 go to a muffler shop and tell em it needs changing. I was having the same problems with my car. The muffler inside is dirty and needs to be replaced
