  • Inspired by the birds waking me up every day at 6am and hovering around our bird feeder, jostling for position (and the tonnage of food they get through!).
I'm really impressed with Musescore's oboe sample and, being a former oboist (45 yeas and about 150,000 Marlboro Lights ago, since you ask), I thought I'd give it a try. The biggest problem with Musescore in this context is that playback doesn't respect slurs or breath marks, which is why I don't put them in, and it makes it sound a bit unreal in places.
Written in Musescore 4 with Muse Sounds.

Dear Jeff, Thank you for uploading your works. I've listened to many of them today. Man, I am so impressed. I've been writing on Musescore since ver 3. But, I never thought to share my works. Your channel has given me the inspiration I needed, to share but also to keep writing.
This Oboe work is amazing! The ver 4 sounds are really great too!

Hi Gavin, thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, v4 sounds are so much more usable than v3 and far more inspiring to make you write more. Do share your work...it took me ages to pluck up the courage but it turns out that 99% of people out there are very supportive...and the others, well, you can just delete their comments!

    Hey Jeff Ward
My mom and I (she's a pianist) thought it would be really cool to perform your beautiful composition together.
Is there any chance we could get the sheet music from you? We'd love to bring this piece to life in our performance.

@@SmileytheSmile 🤣In all seriousness though, Musescore doesn't respect breath marks on playback (it should put a brief gap in), so you have to end the phrase with a tied demisemiquaver (or whatever) followed by an equivalent rest for the breath. Looks very odd and is a pain so I've long given up putting them in. It doesn't respect slurs either so you can't differentiate tongued from legato, so I don't bother with them mostly either. I'm an oboist, by the way, and I just make my own mind up where to put the breaths and tongues!
