i used to sing this one as a kid in Whakatane. now i live in england, it's my favourite maori song to belt out when i'm in the mood. confuse the the neighbours!!!
Lol i will confuse the neighbours, I come from AOTEAROA but also left to a different country and I remember hearing this song, I’ve heard many te reo Maori songs but this song has become a one of my faves…
This video was in my youtube feed today. What a lovely way to wake up. I love this Maori song and I am Aussie. This brought a huge smile to my face and joy to my heart.
this is so beautiful. I love this culture. I wish we had something similar in US. These children are so dedicated to culture, music and country. Wonderful talent. Makes smile every time
We have a lot of similarities to Various Native American tribes. Genetically, We are closely related to the B2 mtDNA group which was the last arrival to America and they include many groups such as the Pueblo tribes in New Mexico and so many others. The B2 group (or a parent group) originated in central China and its migrations happened in many directions, north being the one that went to America and south to south Asia including the Polynesian islands. We share a lot of similar belief systems and cultural practices.
The more videos I see about Polynesian cultur and music..you guys sing like angels😇😇young of old,in a choir or just in a wedding,is like you have been brought to the world to bring peace and love.❤️❤️the more I see the more I fall in love with the culture
man this takes me back. 3 years ago in the beginning of freshman year my Hawaiian culture kumu had us watch this in class to let us feel the mana from this girls singing and how to sing Oiwi E from the heart. i literally must’ve listened to this at least 100 times lmao. i’m a senior now, reminiscing the mana i felt from this video the first time i saw it

Just looked up the Pataxo, what a beautiful culture man. The native Brazilians have it as tough as any other indigenous population! Fight to keep this culture alive! Do you know much of the cultural practices?
I honestly grew up going to kapa haka with my family every weekend and listening to this song always gave me goosebumps despite the people i didnt like because they thought they were better then everyone but when they sung oooshh straight chills down my spine everytimee brings back hella memories ❤

Hi, I am from Holland. I wonder if anyone can give me the chords that go with the lirics?! This seems perfect for a mixed choir. This group would like to perform also a Haka in a theatreconcert: travel around the world. I like this one because it has both the feminity and masculinity in it: although it is hard to see what the boys are doing. Thanks in advance for helping me out!
