This guy made one of the BIGGEST dance songs in the 90's, and stil the entire world know's "what is love"...And just drinking a tea talking like he could be my next door neighbour....
I’m going to be delightfully controversial Ian…. It was a coffee 😊😅
He is a liar. He never wrote the song. The songwriters found him and got him to record THEIR SONG. So it was never his to "sell" anyway. Such a lowlife asshat
No, he was just singing. Good voice, stupid keys
What's he suppose to do!!!! Talented people don't act stupid.
Top track und top Interview !
I hope this man realizes he is a living legend
this song never gets old
Exactly ;-)
Holy shit, he’s super humble and interesting to talk to.
I am so proud to be from the twin island state of Trinidad and Tobago where this man was born. He was born in Port of Spain, so was I... What Is Love is a great hit song that has transcended and still continues to transcend through generations
🤔You must have Grenadian family also😀

I only found out this week he is Trini born
My best friend was in a singing competition with Haddaway (he wasn’t known yet). She won and he got second place. He got a deal of course and the rest is history. In her words, this is what she said: “I don't envy his success while I've given up singing altogether. I like what I do now and good for him on all his success - he deserved it, he was very very nice and lovely man.”
Fatima Taylor Aw that’s nice! And yeah he was super nice when I met him, super down to earth guy!!
It's nice to hear the stories. I met Haddway years ago in Cologne in the early 90's. I would love to know who was the girl which won the contest.
Would love to sit and have a drink with Haddaway and listen to some of his travelling/gigging stories.... such an articulate and modestly intelligent guy. That track is part of my youth!
Its a legendary song, probably the best 90s pop dance track
You know it's a special track when you can listen to it over and over again
My 12 year old son really love this song he wrote the chorus lyrics on my Father’s Day card and I thought it was hilarious and cool lol
guys a living Iegend.
Such a cool, down-to-earth guy.
Down to Earth Capricorn. Can hear it. And stuck to his guns knowing his song was good.
That song and artist gives me such a warm feeling and memories of my youth ❤❤❤ they don’t make that kind of music anymore.
Lol I was a little 13 year old and I still obsessed with it I got my love of vampires from this tune and bram stoker dracula I'm 41 now lol still love it
Are you female? If so what was it like listening to this kind of music in the club from a females perspective?
This is amazing, one of the greatest European pop dance records of the 90s, an incredible track - perfection
Haddaway seems a really nice guy!
Thanks for the interview
He's super nice indeed, glad you enjoyed the interview, thank you! :)
What a nice and pleasant person Haddaway is. Very interesting to hear the story behind one off my favorite dance tracks of the 90's
Yeah, super nice down to earth guy, really enjoyed talking to him!
Dude's a diva, if you see some of his live performances he takes the piss out of fellow performers, audience members and the DJ sometimes acting like a total dick.
Don't baby hurt me his gf is a dracula.
Every time I read these comments I feel that in present.
I'm Rwandan and we need his performance at KIGALI.
We love Him so much♥
I was born in 1995 in south east asia,.i know this song from childhood and almost everyone knows this song here in Bangladesh 🇧🇩 ♥️
I love that song when it came out I was maybe 15 16yrs, I still feel the same way I do about it today, I have to sing it when I hear it, it hits me the same
What an unbelievably humble human being.
I really enjoyed listening to Haddaway. His views and comments were most interesting. Thank you.
Good interview. "What Is Love" still holds up after all this time. 👍
Thanks a lot Danny!
Timeless
This song will never get old in my opinion.Amazing
I'm glad he is well and still performing. What Is Love is one of my favorite tracks from the 1990's. I remember hearing it on the radio (back when we all listened to the radio in the car) non-stop.
Defining 90's track
great interview.... so many of us would have loved to have known the synth gear used to make those iconic sounds.
Thank you! And maybe one day I can talk to the producer of this track and ask him ;-)
Much love from Nigeria... Thid song is pure art
Damn.. Never would recognize.. Thank You Hadda a way.. U made our music. LIFE!!
One correction: Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell started the skit on Saturday Night Live, which guest Jim Carey participated in when he hosted the show. You probably saw that episode due to its popularity. The skit later became the plot line for the movie Night at the Roxbury.
Kenneth Otto ah thank you!!
'are you brothers?' 'Noooo' . 'Yesssss'
@@ianhart4990 what? What? Who?
Exacto, el gag viene de la peli Una noche en el Roxbury.
"What is love " un super éxito a nivel mundial!! Con una buena producción y un sonidazo!! Greetings from Guatemala
Love this classic! Songs like this started my love for electronic music as a teenager.
Nice one! Hope you enjoyed the interview!
i love playing this song on my mp3 player back when I was young. Cool to see he is pretty chill.
I am now rapidly approaching five zero - only two years to go (and time IS going faster with age!).
And this man and his song were MY leap into life back then, in '93. School was behind me, I was of age, my whole new life was still ahead of me. And then this guy came along and asked what love is... The song not only hit like a bomb almost worldwide, but also with me. It wasn't just a song, it really was the start of a new era in so many ways, Euro Dance really exploded after that. And now I'm sitting here today, still feeling that this song is absolutely timeless, thinking about the 30 years that have passed since then and thinking to myself, man, what would it be like if I could go back with the life experience I have today and from that time. Going back to 1993, being 17/ 18 again (i 'm born in mid- june), but knowing a bit about how things work and being able to iron out some of the mistakes you've made... Uh, I hope we really do get another chance, and I hope Haddaway is also there in a new life ^^!
Great interview, likeable man, a living legend. May he live long and healthy, and thanks for everything, if you can convey that ;)!
PS: Very wise of him not to sell it for lousy 5000 DM, back in the day ;)!
These are 2500 € today, and only an average month 's worth wage...
He was my biggest hero since I was 17 years old, uncle Antoine has the 1993 album and I’ve never seen it before
What Is Love had everything in one track.
I was clubbing when this track came out. Amazing its still here. Haddaway is a remarkable, interesting person so glad I found this interview.
I grew up with this song in my preteen years
Love that song so much was in my 20’s then, I’ll never tire of it ❤️
R.i.paradise,he was my hero.since the 90"s.fly away haddaway, 🕊️ high.love you still to this day.
I love this guy..He is such natural, his songs are timeless...
Some of you may not be aware Haddaway played American Football at the University of Maryland when Boomer Esiason was the QB. Great friend and Musician for sure.
For real?
Chords from this song: Gm-Bb-Dm-F (for the legendary organ sound). Great interview. I remember it came out as a single on CD. I was immediately in love with this song. I still own the album from Haddaway with What is Love on it (original bought copy, CD). I want to blast it through my speakers now haha. Lovely.
Ive always felt and now heard many say how these awards mean nothing. Its very true. I have won many and I care for none of them. It is the memories :)
The 1st piece of music I ever bought with my own money.
On cassette no less.
We may loose our heroes but they will always still be there in the music 🎶 🎵
The song you're talking about is one of the best disco-dance-pop song of all time.

Hi, I am from Pakistan and "What is love" is still my most favourite song since December 1994, it means 28 years.
Hello! Hope you enjoyed the interview!
Even after almost 30 years this song stays so fresh. Haddaway is such a great guy.
What is love is legendary trance dance song
And all time hit for trance beat and power of vocal haddaway together 👍🎛️🎧😍

D-PAC XD thank you!
Haddaway is a superb singer, and it was a very interesting interview. I wish you could interview Two Bothers at the Fourth Floor too. They are just amazing!
Thank you very much! I requested an interview with Martin Boer, one of the producers of 2 Brothers On The 4Th Floor, so ... fingers crossed!Fun fact, my very first interview ever (When I was still working for local radio) was an interview with Martin, recorded in his studio in Hilversum on April 18, 1995!
What a delightfully humble guy! Great interview ❤
Thank you! And yes he is!
For me personally the 90’s were the best times ; I know the 80’s were great as well but that I don’t know for sure since I was born in late 80’s. But this song is something that brings so much memories from that decade I love so much, the 90’s. Thanks for the video !
Thanks so much, glad you liked it!
I was in a concert of Haddaway in Hannover very long ago. He gave so much energy and I am happy that this man is not burnt in music buisness like so much.
Ahhh nice one! He’s such a legend!
Brought me good memories!!! I still like this music.👏👏👏
Loving your channel mate. This choon reminds me of summer 1993 when I turned 18 and started clubbing. The dome Birmingham most weekends
30 years!!!!! 😮
What a nice fellow Haddaway is.
Yes he is, super nice guy!
I've collected a lot of music over the last 20 years, and I think What Is Love? may be the greatest of all time. Perhaps a tie between it and Everybody Everybody by Black Box.
What is love is one of the greatest house party/techno songs of all time.
I Love you haddaway
Si , claro definidamente, es un clásico de los años noventas, con esa bella voz esté cante tiene otros éxitos. ? ❤❤❤

Muzikxpress - episode 49 already! So great fun and entertainment to watch these! Such a classical Eurodance anthem - and what a story! Tony Hendriks, definitely one of the keyplayers in the evolution of Eurodisco; first Bad Boys Blue and then Haddaway! Could be great You to interview him as well! P.S. Finland mentioned :-D
Number 50 coming up hehe ;-) And yeah, super happy Haddaway took the time to talk to me and share his stories.
And thanks for the support as always Juha!
"What is Love" was recorded at Coconut Music in Hennef (Germany). It is a small studio that still exists today.
Nice one! Does it have the same name still?
@@muzikxpress Yes, that has remained the same to this day.

Fantastic Interview!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks David!
Funny thing that I have always think Haddaway just as about one hit wonder but he actually sounds really smart guy :-) I really like No Love really much.
In the 90s
Haddaway had such a way for everybody to know what is love then Saturday night live puts it in a different way with Will Ferrell Chris Kattan with the signature head hoping move that landed them in A Night at the Roxbury
