I love how unique but equally challenging all of the bosses are. They all have their own unique quirks and not a single one is a copy, that’s something you never see again in a souls game and it’s one of the reasons why this is the best souls game
I agree. people complain about the abundance of puzzle bosses that don't work as a skill check. But imo the levels themselves (and some of the really good bosses like flamelurker) act as those skill checks well enough and the puzzle bosses add another layer of intrigue for a first play-through that not all souls games have.
They're focusing on the casual right now, sadly. We only got "press O at the right time" bosses today. I love gimmick bosses even though they're not hard at all.

Watching this has made me realise how good an example the Tower Knight is of a large boss done right. A lot of FromSoft's larger bosses can be easily beaten by getting underneath them or easily moving around large attacks. By reducing the damage taken to the feet, but forcing the player to attack the feet to knock the knight over and reach its head, this is made a lot more risky. The One Reborn sort of has this with its vomiting attacks, but it becomes too easy once you work out how to dodge them. Also the opening cinematic is awesome.
@abarbosa978 I think that is mainly due to how primitive their their movesets and ai are compared to later titles. I'd honestly LOVE to see a new level-draining boss, though. That is such an amazingly scary idea. One with a bit of quasi-permanence to it. That, and a blind boss with improved mechanics to make them a serious threat, rather than the utter joke the Old Monk can be once you put on the thief ring.
Martin Franchini its not only the fight but the whole experience. The enviroment, the music, fighting a massive flying monster. Its not the physical battle against the king
I love how in this game the difficulty is less about learning a boss' move set but rather finding each of their weaknesses and exploiting them, making the fight turn in your favour. It creates much more unique and memorable encounters and is something I don't think any souls game does better than the original Demon's Souls.
Every well designed boss works that way, even those that feel like and are regular fights with no gimmick, it's just less obvious. You mostly dodge and punish their moves, change your weapon and equipment to one that has an advantage in the given situation, find the blind spot in their moveset where you can place yourself and be safe etc. That is what finding a weakness and exploiting it in a fun and engaging way is, not "Put this ring on to autowin against the blind guy" or "go from point X to point Y without stepping on the green glowing thing"
Don't get me wrong gimmick bosses can be fun and I feel like this game has great ideas but just executes them poorly sometimes. For example Tower Knight has a neat concept: you are put in a seemingly hopeless situation surrounded by snipers and locked in a room with this giant and seemingly invincible knight, you obviously can't win in a battle of attrition as you will just eventually get crushed like a bug so you have to rely on your speed and brains to come out on top. It's a tale as old as time, David and Goliath, we all know how it works. So you make your way up the stairs and take out the snipers and then hack at the knight's ankles, eventually making it fall and expose his head which allows you to finally win. But while this all sounds great in theory, in practice it just falls short, because as a player you are not actually discovering the knight's weak point but you are directly guided to it since the game literally doesn't give you any other option. The only thing you can do is hit the ankles, then he eventually falls and you are left there like "oh okay that's how it works", you do not feel any sense of accomplishment for finding a solution to a problem, you are just traversing a straight corridor of tasks. The most you can do is use ranged weapons to hit the head early, but is that really "outsmarting" the enemy? Another example is Dragon God, yes thematically and aesthetically pleasing but mechanically is it really any different than traversing Sen's Fortress bridges dodging the swinging blades? Or dodging the bombs on the outside until you reach the giant that's throwing them and putting him at rest? It doesn't feel like you have beaten a powerful enemy and proved your superiority to them, which is what people love about bosses. That's why everyone loves Srtorias and hates the Bed of Chaos

I beat him on my first try, you can cheese him. Go to the fog door and he can't hurt you there for a while, then you unleash spells or miracles on him. You only have to do it 3-4 times and he's dead.Make sure to level up before that fight, he can be really nasty early on.

God I love all the brass in the game's OST. Maybe it's because I'm getting sick of the later games and their near undistinguishable cacophony of boss music, but this really helps the game stand out from it's successors. I especially love Vandgaurd's theme.
Came here after the Remake came out. The Remake definitely exceeds in terms of graphics and framerate. But the music, atmosphere and dialogue/voice acting in the original is definitely way better than in the Remake. It's a damn shame because they kept the underwhelming Dragon God boss fight but changed aspects of the game that made it good. Edit: I just noticed, the Penetrator and Old King Allant boss fight feel way less epic in the Remake without the lgiht effects. We were this close to perfection, Bluepoint
Since this will be a full remake, I'm hoping that means the bosses like Fool's Idol, Leechmonger, and Abjucator wont be super easy like they were in the original. We all want a challenge :P
yea, i know. The first level are ok but i was stuck in the monk room, if i remember correctly. It was impossible for me to pass it. I would like a pc version (official) to have some more save points, to be a little bit less frustating. Congrats for your 42 hours marathon ;-)
Boss is not hard. You just have to kill all enemy then kill Tower knight on weak spot is leg then Tower knight fell, you have to kill with Head or Body.
Nostalgia clouds judgement. After playing each titles multiple times, you realize that Demon's Souls is actually the easiest of the bunch. It just feels like the hardest because it was the first experience back then, so by the time you hit Dark Souls 3 you have already 4 titles of experience.

After defeating the tutorial boss, my game is crashing in the loading screen ... when i die when i fight him too ... first time it was ok but on my second nd third char the game crashes ... could you pleeeeas help ... i was trying to fix it hours and hours
As long they don’t make the same moves and speed as in the original. Compared to dark souls, this game attacks were slower and predictable. Even though it was your first couple of tries
@Joseph Waters Recording and mixing audio properly isn't a revisional or programming process. You record it without overdriving. That's it. Add a limiter or compressor if you need to. It's not like a bigger budget or more time is necessary. That's not a combative or argumentative statement. I'm just stating a fact. Programming often requires a tweaking of variables and expressions to adjust to the way the interactive elements play off one another, and that's understandable. A basic, competent audio designer should be able to create something that can be ossified without adjustments; that's why a lot of audio design is done late into a production cycle. Also, I'm pretty sure the audio capture here is just garbage, and that's the bigger issue.

@Joseph Waters Recording and mixing audio properly isn't a revisional or programming process. You record it without overdriving. That's it. Add a limiter or compressor if you need to. It's not like a bigger budget or more time is necessary.
That's not a combative or argumentative statement. I'm just stating a fact. Programming often requires a tweaking of variables and expressions to adjust to the way the interactive elements play off one another, and that's understandable. A basic, competent audio designer should be able to create something that can be ossified without adjustments; that's why a lot of audio design is done late into a production cycle.
Also, I'm pretty sure the audio capture here is just garbage, and that's the bigger issue.
