    It was made obvious very early on that the teams that made the OSTs for PGR weren't the ones who handled the OSTs on this one, which is weird since from the looks of it Vanguard Sound picks up any game that comes to them so it is just straight up confusing as to why they didn't approached them.

    My first attempt at a review video
    Safe to say I bit off more than I could chew with this one.
    Spent a couple weeks on it and I'm still unhappy with the result. If I had the motivation I'd have started over and done another draft at the script.
    Regardless I think It manages to convey how I felt about Wuthering Heights and that's enough for me.
    Back to Arknights videos now.

    Real kuro enjoyer were like "finally open world PGR!!"
    Though nowadays, Wuwa is mostly full of frustrated ex-genshin players that wants to keep comparing wuwa to genshin
    From Kurogamer side, I agree that this is too much genshin, less PGR. Wuwa standalone, its really fun. But coming from PGR, I know, I KNOW they can do better, wayyy better
    At least I appreciate the Monster hunter rise, DMC, Nier & Pokemon aspect of the game.

      @@Freegon444 In terms of Combat its really just PGR.
      What long time PGR players want is probably the atmosphere of PGR, the current over the top combat animation of many char. in PGR, the Music etc in short just PGR but open world, of course UI complaint is also a thing cause its the no.1 thing that's almost 1:1 on genshin, well its obvious why its the same thing when many devs copied Ubisoft UI (heck the UI of GI is almost like Ubisoft anyway).
      As a a day 1 global pgr player, it would have been exciting also if they just made PGR open world but it would have probably taken alot of sales on old PGR if they did so have to be new story etc, but anyway WW is a good game especially if you like skill based ARPG and open world, and knowing Kuro they will slowly might update something to differentiate itself from what they initially copied from GI, like adding new form of gliding etc.

    I play both Arknights and PGR as main mobile games, and Wuwa still needs a long way to improve and reach same point of PGR QoL level. For now, both Wuwa and GI share many same elements from progression to UI/tone design at least for me. I wish Kuro goes back to their track and bring original vision at some point while improving core combat and engaging activities. Great review!

    Title is basically my feeling in a nutshell. I dont understand copying Genshin to such a degree without including the 4 years of QoL improvements Genshin has had.
    People who dont like Genshin arent going to play a Genshin-like; People who *love* Genshin arent going to jump ship; People who love PGR are toing to be disappointed by how little PGR is in the DNA.
    It's such a strange choice for anything but a pump and dump, which Im inclined to believe this isnt.

      it's not strange, it's classic textbook executive meddling. The top guys/investors don't care how it works and why, just copy what the number 1 did; the thought of outdoing number 1 with different methods is such a foreign concept to them.

    • @The_Celestial_Fox

      Can you give me some examples of these "QoL improvements" Genshin has? I've played since 1.0 and every year I see players completely cr*p on Hoyo for never listening to their playerbase about the improvements wanted for the game. And whenever I've seen updates, it's always been something somewhat useful, but ultimately small, or completely meaningless, like the recent increase to friends and inventory.
      I don't think it's really fair to say that any open world gacha game is simply trying to be Genshin. I say this a someone who plays 4 gachas, about to be 5 with ZZZ. There's not much that gacha games as a genre can really do differently from one another, similar to how fighting games are all similar in having a 1v1 or 2v2 fight, with similar movesets of having combos, parry, blocking, special move, etc, and a story mode. Tekken, SF, DoA, MK, etc. Another example is Souls games having similar mechanics and gameplay.
      If you want to compare games like this, it'd be more accurate to compare, for example, Genshin to BotW. Extremely similar gameplay and mechanics, but different genres altogether.
      Not to say WuWa is perfect, there are issues. I for one find it annoying I can't use echos to level other echos and the game is stingy with echo level up material. Tacet Fields and other domains are way too expensive for little rewards, and no console support let alone controller support for mobile. The story makes no sense to me for now, we're just thrown into the middle of everything, and the voice acting is awkward and kind of bad (especially Yangyang). But at least stamina isn't decreased when running, I can swap characters whenever, combat is more intricate and rewarding, scaling walls and terrain is faster and easier.
      Overall, I think WuWa is a pretty fun and refreshing game. The character and world designs are beautiful, and there are aspects that make it feel more convenient than Genshin.

      @Eclin 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@The_Celestial_Foxi’ve played since 1.0 too, and you can’t seriously say they have 0 impactful QoL.
      In 1.0 we have:
      -120 resin cap
      -no condensed resin
      -Artifact domain where you have to manually pick the artifact drops and run towards the area every time
      -characters that went for expedition can’t be used
      -no hotkey for items and foods
      -cooldown not resetting immediately after abyss reset
      -etc
      Some of it makes you think why they don’t implement it in the first place, but imagine if Genshin still had these after 3 years and WUWA ended up just copying it as is(like they did for curreny Genshin).
      And they didn’t have to completely copied the cash shop and premium currency system, that’s just really weird imo. Just because it’s a gacha game they don’t have to copy everything, it just makes everything feels stale. Other gacha games doesn’t feel the same because they use different system, but Genshin, HSR, and WuWa is basically the same game asides from the combat.

    About the copying Genshin, I feel like whoever was in charge just wanted them to copy everything as closely as possible without having any clue whatsoever why things are in Genshin the way they are.
    There's no way you would even copy the crappy designs if you have any sort of incling about if it's good design or not.

      I do sometimes think this way when playing the game. The level-gating of main story quests, for example, is one of my personal pet peeves, and the reason i quit GI. My interest to the story just slowly dwindle while grinding the next quest, and by the end of it i just couldn't care less, which is a shame because i was hooked in the beginning.
      Its not as bad here in wuwa, even though it's still exist, but at least with the deeper/more thoughtful combat system, the "grinding" is much more enjoyable. We'll see how it goes in the future.

    • @Kryshnae
      @Kryshnae 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@kiki123456ablefyi, they said they massively reduced the level gating for patch 1.1. At least for the main quest the lvl req dropped from 14 to 9, which is roughly 1 lvl off where you ended after the first main quest. Not gonna justify thats a great idea but i guess they dont want the players to consume every content day 1

      @@kiki123456able It's interesting, you claim the deeper combat system makes the grinding more enjoyable but I actually find the opposite to be the case. Having to think more in combat and actually needing to do my rotations every time makes the grinding way more tiring and boring for me. Especially when I have to trek across 30 miles just to get another spectro damage bonus on my fusion echo. I also don't really think Genshin's combat system is less deep, it's just focused in a different way. WuWa is focused more on individual skill expression for the characters on their own where the only thing that matters for the rest of the team is what percentage of attack the outro bonus gives, whereas Genshin's is about the team and their elements and how those interact as a whole.

    • @kiki123456able
      @kiki123456able 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Cr3zant"Individual skill expression" is a great way to describe it. And yes, imho, having a more involved combat always works in favor of character action games such as dmc, bayonetta, etc, and I do consider wuwa and others like pgr or honkai3rd as one, despite them being mobile gachas. When each character, 5 stars or not, has varied movesets, combos, and varied interactions between said movesets and the enemies, it makes grinding not necessarily enjoyable per se, but more interesting and less monotone to do/look at, because at least you get to do cool moves while doing it.

The mechanics aren’t 100% the exact copy, but how it works in practice, how it look visually, and the game loop are uncannily similar to Genshin. Im genuinely convinced this game is genuinely kuro biting more than it could chew. The most telling is the Vanguard studio only on the title theme only. The very apparent rush job they did in voice and performance. Hence they just copy genshin.
    This is kuro gambit basically if they flop, which I genuinely they almost did, kuro genuinely gonna be gone. Thankfully the core gameplay and being actively involved in hearing input from playerbase save this game from death.
    Now would they make a comeback? Genuinely i dont know. But the odds is always good on kuro when it comes to upgrade their games. Problem is do the player base even care or patients enough for it. Before it got snagged by azur promilia. Basically making wuwa another cult classic that always always left you wanting more, kinda what fate befall PGR. Like pgr of old is not the same from pgr now.

    Yeah, WuWa kinda feels like Genshin mod, the problem is, it's copying some of the bad things instead of getting rid of it like the weapon interface you mentioned. I personally don't like that I need to unlock mc dupes (sequence) with collecting Sonance Casket instead of just completing main quest and some of caskets hidden with mutterfly I mean like for lore perspective it doesn't make sense that I need to exchange my power to this npc with his robot which I don't even remember his name, at least in genshin it kinda make sense, collecting casket/oculus is the most boring thing ever that you can done in exploration for both game and the rewards is mid, if I can get 10 limited pulls every level I'll never complain about this, those casket finder is pricey to make with 10 red ores which you need to make for free 4 star weapon if you're f2p, most people basically just using guide video or interactive map to find it. For the story, I think this is the case where devs need to have their own vision instead of listening to feedback, the story is much better in cbt than what we had right now, where characters are wary of us instead of being friendly when we first met, this kinda make Kuro confused with how the world should works in WuWa, should we make a threatening world or vibrant world like genshin, which is impacting their music isn't memorable enough or lack identity for crucial part of the story or town that need to stand out, boss theme that I like the most is Aix, the futuristic sounds fits really well with the identity of their other game pgr while Dreamless theme is great but it's too dark souls type kind of music, I think the world music is okay with those lofi-ish music style.

    Genshin player here, I have 0 interest in playing WuWa even before checking out what is it about. After I've seen things about WuWa, I'm glad that I made the right choice.
    Many things feels like straight up copy from Genshin, just like any so called "G killer" but worse because even the numbers of currencies and prize are 1:1. But of course, like every other "G killer", WuWa have somewhat different methods of combats and equipments (genuinely think that's the only appeal that WuWa has).
    But of course, WuWa was just released while Genshin is well over 4 years now, so comparing them isn't very justifiable, aside from the fact that WuWa team have somewhat 4 years to spectate everything that happens around Genshin and its playerbase, improving whatever Genshin is lacking.
    One of the thing that they successfully did is to bombard players with gacha currencies every 3 days or so, making them look "generous", which appeals to 90% (or even more, im just estimating here) gacha players. Genshin could never.

      WuWa player here, yes this game copies a lot from GI, though the game never address itself as an GI killer in the first place. Even before the CBT 2 release, many people already realised that this game is more of a GI competitor instead.
      Bombard with gacha currencies is needed though, due to the disaster called "Wuwa release", they can do nothing but try to fix the issues give tons of currencies in hope that the playerbase wouldn't leave them.
      Just if you don't know the gacha brainrots will actively call out any gacha game that's open-world "GI killer" anyway. Kyostinv's Arknights: Endfield stream mods have to ban those who say "genshin" just because of how many people say "Genshin copy" or "Genshin killer"(spoiler: it's not) during the first stream.

      @@reedchanuoughh No game really dubs themselves as the "G killer", it is the players.
      I've seen some fair share of gacha games giving out a crap ton of free stuff to make more people interested in playing, but at least WuWa has the ability to back it off with good gameplay and environments. I just hope that it doesn't come back to bite them in the back, when they stop giving out free pulls (I believe GI back in the day was also pretty generous, but look at them now and how the playerbase reacted).
      I've only watched a bit of Endfield, even I know that the core game loop is different, you could say that its like building base in Arknights, but 3D and you also get adventures

    yo, even tho you're not super happy with it, I think it's a great and balanced reveiw: you could have easily leaned into shitting on either genshin or this game for more "engagement" but you kept it informative and clear. I just wander why you didn't mention the door mode, since you had footage of it. I feel like that's another pretty cool inclusion in the gameplay loop and the possibility of them expanding the characters abilities even more works well with philosophy of the game.
    I hate that this game tries so hard to be genshin, because it could be so much more but I guess that's too hard to explain to management and I'll end by agreeing on the story being kinda of a slog, but with some interesting hook to it that they have to flesh out more or it dies on the generic hole of filler gacha stories (like genshin)

    I tried WuWa for about 2 weeks and it just felt too similar to genshin. Yes traversal is better and they've given plenty of free pulls. Combat is a little more complex, but then again, combat isn't as fun as when I play zelda, other MMOs with tons of skill buttons, or hollow knight. Other than those pros, exploration, UI, cooking, etc. all felt similar to genshin. Music and aesthetics are inferior to genshin imo. I do play genshin casually, about every other day, and I don't have it in me to play a game like WuWa that gives a similar feel and is as time consuming. To me the game lacks charm in a way. Where is its identity when it has such an info dump story and bland music tracts? Plus it outright runs more poorly on my laptop than genshin. I spent a lot of time adjusting my settings and updated my drivers to get the game to function pretty well, but it still has lag when I play. And the targeting in the game...honestly I think it's clunky. Is it a bad game? No, it's pretty good. Is it better than Genshin? Honestly, it isn't. People argue to high heaven it's a straight up upgrade in every way, but I feel like WuWa is only an upgrade in some ways and a downgrade in others. If Genshin wasn't stingy as hell and added new endgame modes before 2024 then people probably wouldn't hate on it as strongly.

I think right now just the settings and the combat make it a huge point for my enjoyment for sure (guns and scifi my beloved) and for many people who like the same settings to carve out a niche in the market. I hope they can iron out the performance isssues in the future and keep reinforce or expand on their identity more and to improve on what Genshin lacks. Also Chixia best girl.

    Man this is the one. This is the review I was waiting for. Not some either continuous glazing or some shallow conclusions based on few hours of play (I get the first impression thing but we should not based the whole game off that only). Although GI copy cat features you mentioned here are anyways revealed during first 3 hours of the game. But many unique features of the game are best analysed when one has given enough time to play and test many aspects of the game not just one aspect.
    - Describe the game, what it is.
    - Describe the game functions and UI/UX
    - describe it's combat
    - describe things you can do aside from combat.
    - describe the problems you seem to encounter during the gameplay.
    - describe the story(?) and side quests.
    In total this is the kind of review we want for ANY game. And you did it great. Thank you. I understand this game was rushed and would have been in way better spot if not for the crunch of rewriting the story and over world rework. It should be improving with every patch from now on. The foundation is good and devs just need to consistent with its development (and please for the love of God do not succumb to petty requests made by fan base. Sure a few suggestions wouldn't hurt but maintaining your own vision is greatly important for a successful product)

Never played GI but tried ToF for 2 days, and really didn’t like having to endless roam around the map to farm materials and currency to get a small amount of pulls which is similar to WuWa. It also started to feel more like a chore trying to find the last ones that you missed. Only way I’d play WuWa is if it was better than PGR or AG (AG nightmare bosses are actually more insane than the hardest of PGR) but to me it sort of isn’t, and doesn’t make sense to drop PGR after all the investment.

    Back in genshin I realized I don't actually like open world, especially when it's mobile. All it ends up doing is taking too much of my time with stuff like dailies that should be integrated into how you want yo play the game, not dictate what to do. And a bunch of other issues I had that piled up into a big mount. So I stopped playing it. And when people started hyping up this game and I took a look at what it is... it was a very quick "yeah I won't like this". I do play PGR, btw. Character designs is another big-ger reason, and while better than in genshin, they're still same-y and trope-y. At least PGR tries to be its own thing.

I haven't actually looked at the entire original story, but for instance, one part that people liked about the old story was when Chixia had her gun pointed towards you as she was weary of you. However, this was apparently after you fought monsters to help Yangyang (her friend) out, so this does still make sense, it just characterizes Chixia as someone very distrustful... which she isn't.

A new update happens every month, with every other update being to the main story. These story updates aren't small by any means either, so it's actually kind of wild seeing the story practically be serialized.
      The game is technically competitive, as the weekly game modes will rank you on a player leaderboard, but it feels more like a way to measure your own growth as a player. 95% of the rewards from these modes are given just for participating.

    I have a feeling that the "boss junk" - i.e. ultra fast and hard to react-to moves from Bosses are big danger to this game.
    There is currently barely any lasting content in WuWa EXCEPT for higher combat challenges (Tower of Adversity and Holograms) - but this content in higher difficulties it is quite punishing.
    People like to complain about lack of challenging content in games, but in the end, most will not tolerate being wiped because they dont have great reflexes.
    For a while maybe, but then they will quietly leave for something more accessible.
    You have high-end combat in other games too ofc, but those games also have million other things to do - think many old MMO games high-end raiding, which make barely 5%-10% of what you can do in those games.
    Not only WuWa does not have that other content, it is not MMO. So there is no social aspect to keep you around.

    The game was not rdy for release, i feel like a year from now after they fix/improve all the major problems and they add some more end game content, the game will be a banger.
    The complete story rewrite was stupid, they should have just altered some things, the current story is incredibly boring and full of pointless dialog, the lack of a VA director for EN made the voice acting very inconsistent, the auto player is always cutting the voice acting before it ends as well, it's so annoying.
    I feel like they were cutting corners bc the money was running low, but now they made a ton of money, and they need to fix a lot of stuff, they have no excuses left, but some of this things take time, so we will see.

    i used to be a fan of genshin till i realised how much i abhor the idea of needing to run around an open world just to get some pulls or materials to level up my characters, so i quit it, and then somehow deluded myself into thinking that i just didnt like the art style of genshin and tried wuwa when it first launched, and you know what- it was even worse! i mean, im not in any position to say that the game is objectively bad, i just dont like it. it took all the parts that i hated about genshin (the exploration, the yapping, the 20000 materials scattered around the map, the rng heavy artifact system) and turned them all up to 11! and the 'fanservice', dear gods, i hate anime girl fanservice. and they take it and shoves it down your throat. i mean this is a problem with most gacha games, devs are gonna need to make money somehow and its clearly working, but i wanted to like this game so badly. i liked the design of the mcs, i liked scar, and aalto, and the combat system
    its just so sad that those good things are wrapped in such a thick layer of things that make me want to throw up my insides whenever i open the game

    Was expecting a bit deeper and more thorough analysis from a 25m video honestly :D
    Nonetheless, no sugarcoating, no hating, so a nice one.
    I'm probably one of those enjoying wuwa less than your average player who've never heard of PGR because I really wanted Kuro to expand on PGR ideas and I'm still coping they are going to change those things they copied from GI to PGR-esque in the future (although very unlikely). Also it's always a treat seeing wuwa fanboys shitting on GI when they are mostly identical lol. Like how they hate that IGN gave wuwa a 7 when they gave GI a 9 yet ignoring the fact that GI got a 9 back in 2020 because it was THE first of its kind and it was during a covid, and if it were to release in 2024 in its 2020 state... I doubt it would've gotten anything more than 7.
    Also wanted to add that Kuro changing some irritating things here and there in 1.1 and I believe there was a rumor they've hired more writers soon after the release, so with all of that in mind I hope to see wuwa carving more of its own path rather than copying GI in the future.

    the game genuinely does look very pretty though. like the texturing and animation on the models is really, really good; the characters are super expressive and the different materials on their outfits are textured differently.
    but as you said it's a buggy mess and the story is just not it. there's some genuinely good parts in the story but the main quest is just kind of not well written bc it just feels like everyone is sucking rover's dick and none of the characters really have relationships with characters outside of them. the best writing in the game is unironically the NPC side quests because they're... not focused on rover.
    anyway thanks for the lock-on explanation i needed that

      This is actually surprising to me because at first, I was thinking "why is my PC struggling with this, graphically it's basically the same as GI". Then when I compare them side by side, it turns out wuwa's visuals are actually prettier by quite a lot, and my mind just goes, "oh... I guess that's why"😅

      @@Chrisbun1 While going Hydro certainly did Aether/Lumine no favors, many playable characters say something akin to "My life has changed so much after meeting you~!" with some sounding like they're about to nut just from standing too close (e.g. Ayaka, Nilou). Hell, Navia's release trailer has her specifically searching Fontaine high and low for Aether/Lumine and looking like a lovestruck idiot in the process (there's a part where she literally stumbles into foiling a robbery attempt), a far cry from the confident and stylish detective(?) we got in the archon quest.

      @@kiki123456able haha i don't actually play genshin but i do play hsr. i'm an artist (and do fanart) so i do pay attention to design and whatnot, and one of the first things i noticed was the texturing and animation difference.
      i will say that this doesn't mean the character designs themselves are particularly strong. i don't think they're bad per se but while they're definitely more "realistic" (as in they make slightly more sense) than hoyoverse's, they're also less appealing imo, just because the designers stuck to the same palettes and themes, and the character silhouettes are kind of weak.

    • @dazai-san47
      @dazai-san47 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Chrisbun1 I don't play Genshin, but I do actually prefer that to whatever is going on in wuwa. One of the main reasons why I like the Arknights stories is that the Doctor isn't the center of everything. Their presence in the story is either nonexistent or important but not the focus, and they have different relationships with different operators; some like them, others are indifferent, and others just outright hate them. The Doctor is their own character, but because they are representative of "us," the players, their personality is very much muted. As a result they need to take a backseat to the characters with actually fleshed out personalities and backstories or else it shines too much light on how little character the Doctor actually has.
      Wuwa fails in this department because it can't figure out whether it wants Rover to be a blank slate for the players to project on or an actual character. It tries to do both and fails miserably on both fronts because of it. Rover has too much character and autonomy to be a blank slate (they are Cool and Strong and Smart AND Fast) but not enough character to carry the narrative the way the story wants them to. While Arknights hides the Doctor's lack of actual character by letting them stay on the sidelines, Wuwa sticks Rover into the spotlight and illuminates their cardboard personality for everyone to see.

    Hello! This review is very VERY interesting, with all those details and observations, it's much different than popular loud WuWa - Genshin comparisons, discussions whether WuWa is a Jenshin copy or Jenshin killer, etc etc... One thing though - what WuWa lacks from PGR??? Despite this being the whole point of your review... you said practically nothing about it 0_0 You have only elaborated on 'copying' Jenshin. Maybe second part of your statement is obvious to you, but not for all people who watch your video, you know? Some even... haven't played PGR before, while would be very interested in your thoughts on that.

    • @DrSilvergun
      @DrSilvergun  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      tldr not enough fighting
      PGR is closed arena's where you fight enemies and bosses. It's doesn't have the open world loot cycle of genshin chest and such.
      So what a lot of people would want is for the combat to be a more central part of the gameplay. Instead it's like genshin where you spend most of your time chest hunting and only have some endgame content with difficult fights.
      If the openworld had interesting encounters more frequently it would play like a very diffrent game.

    • @doedoel035
      @doedoel035 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DrSilvergun Hmm. The chest hunting option is there to encourage open world exploration; it's optional as well, if you're okay with skipping rewards.
      I'm still struggling understanding this perspective. Maybe you can enlighten me more? Because I don't think PGR is different, in that once you're done with story stages, you're left with endgame contents (Pain Cage and Warzone), and events in game. Or maybe we could've got more interesting combat, like with Alpha: Crimson Weave, get into two phases and such?

    I wonder if genshin due to being composed of shit ton of small files benefits HDD due to if game is needing a chunk of data it returns faster because it's a small file compared to 5GB files mounted virtually also WuWa logging is pretty damn aggressive so that doesn't help HDD
    Genshin system of getting dailies points from collecting rewards from events is missing in wuwa
