I feel like the court would have gave him custody just because Ellis was like you said a workaholic and Meredith was only 5 she obviously needed a parent who could be there for her
I love this scene so much, the acting, the emotion and vulnerability the heartbreak. I think this is why I love meredith grey so much and why I love the show cuz that scene made me realize i needed to reach out to my father who I never had a relationship with as well.
I can understand him leaving ellis but no way in hell can I understand him leaving meredith behind. I'm sure he could have gotten majority custody and I doubt ellis would have argued too much either but he let her down
