      Never use a screw driver on an aluminum o ring land. Plastic only as a scratch can cause a leak and or set up a crack. All though remote possibility but a nevertheless good habit. Also torque specs would be nice for those that have a conventional drain plug. Oil filter cap housing as well.
      Very good video.... good job.

    Am glad you addressed safety. One of my neighbors placed the car just on the jack while he was changing a fog light. Out of nowhere the jack failed right when he stepped out underneath to get a wrench. He walked across to my house all shaken up and repeating again and again whata stupid move he just did.
    *I have, besides the main jack, the little one as well as a back. My rule is at least three towers and one jack.
    In no way I would use that valve, can get hit by a rock, road trash, easy.

      @@carswithsonduren ah yes but even a Miata MX-5 Mazda manages to be fun and sporty with only 120bhp, and I had a 96 Mustang GT V8 with the 2V 4.6 engine the one most popular for being ragged on and yet it’s also the most reliable engine mustangs of the last multiple generations and all I had to do was put slightly better stickier tires and in transformed it into a corn carving prancing pony. These IS Models both come with double wishbone suspension in the front and independent suspension in the rear. Followed by from what I can see that the engines are set where at least 80-70% of the engines are positioned behind the front wheels which should give them both roughly a 56/44 weight difference front and back which is almost perfect for a car of their weight class.

      @@carswithsonduren ah I’m not far off haha. They copied Maserati’s idea of 52/48 weight distribution. So yeah all it would take is a slight change of tires depending on the time of year like I’m in the Pacific Northwest of US and our weather isn’t much different from most of Canada so it would probably corner amazingly with possible changes to Pirelli P-Zero tires, ironically the stock tires for your R8, and not only would they have a very impressive performance for grip but also relatively confident with bad weather set of tires.

    Checking oil level with clean, fresh, very clear oil can be hard! I really enjoyed your video, thank you for sharing. I would make two recommendations that might make things better? easier? I don't know. This is not to criticize what you did, I mean, mission accomplished! Oil and filter changed safely!
    To remove the o-ring gasket from the filter housing cap, I use a rag or shop towel, and press about a 30mm section of the o-ring together with my thumbs, causing the o-ring to bunch up, out of the groove. No need for a small screw driver, and no risk of scratching the cap. Sometimes it doesn't work and I end up using a tool as you did, but when it works (most of the time it works) it is faster.
    When the filter cap tool sticks to the housing cap, (every.single. time!) I just remove the ratchet, because I'm going to be using the cap wrench in a few moments to tighten everything back up. Then, since it is now stuck going the other way, I switch the ratchet mechanism and just give the wrench a slight pop, which causes the cap wrench to disengage from the flutes of the filter housing cap.
    Again, thank you for taking the time to get camera angles and edit your footage! Your video is clear and informative. Stay safe.

    Hey to check oil you're not supposed to stick it in all the way. You are supposed to put the dip stick in until the colored part touches and then pull it out for the most accurate reading.
    Safe to say you could have probably put in another 0.5 qt

    Tutorial made very simple. The only two things to add are: 1. if you have a normal drain plug nut, make sure you buy a new crush washer with it. 2. You never mentioned the other o-ring thing in the new oil filter...

    I appreciate that you do these videos , it being I own an 08 IS250. I have done it on my own a few times, the oil change. I use the blend, called synthetic blend. So far so good. At 121k miles I wonder if I should change to full synthetic. Anyhow, sexy car these are.

      @carswithsonduren  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice what color is yours? Yeah I would change to full synthetic especially since you were still pretty low kilometer. Depending on your climate it could definitely help and prices have come down on full synthetic oils

    Thanks for this video. I am starting to do my own oil changes on my Lexus too. I notice mine burns a quart or liter every 1700 miles (2750 kilometers) but that’s because I use an oil called a blend. Synthetic blend. On your opinion synthetic can be better ? It’ll burn less oil and won’t lose its viscosity as quickly as conventional oil? Anyhow these are old cars so there will be some oil consumption inevitably.

    • @carswithsonduren
      @carswithsonduren  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad it helped I think you should go full synthetic, it will burn less but you will still have oil consumption and that is normal for these cars as they age.

      I think theres a bolt on the front of your oil filter cap to drain the oil from the filter prior to loosening the cap. With the right tools, you can make the change a little cleaner. Not the end of the world if you don't use that, but it's another spot where oil can leak.
