Watched this from the start in 1973 l loved the firs few series but when Bill Owen died the life went out of the show, l still watch the early series but l could not face the farce of the others, God bless Compo, Cleggy and Foggy may you go on in memory for ever for the fun they gave me and others rest in peace my lovely friends.
It would have been Compo's Birthday yesterday, 14th March. I watched yet again "Dancing With Crime" (1947) with Richard Attenborough, He was fine actor and a credit to his family. God Bless The Unforgettable Three ♥♥♥
Vintage stuff! I was thirteen when this song came out and liked the Compo-Nora banter! Especially Oh Shut up and eat your Choc Ice, my favourite episode
I stumbled across this fun song by the late Kathy Staff and Bill Owen who played Nora Batty and Compo. RIP . Thank you to each and every one involved in Making Last Of The Summer Wine the hit it became and thanks also Nora and Compo . I shall enjoy listening 🎧 to that fun song time and time again ... with a glass of what else but summer 🍷.
The Last Of The Summer Wine. The blossom soon begins to fade. A Lonely bird high on a hill sings Autumn's on it's way.The memories of Summer's gone like passing shadows crossed my mind. Deflections of the yesterday's that made our summer wine. The misty haze of golden days when we were young. That heavy bloom of finding love, Then love...Passing on. The Last of the Summer Wine. The sweet bouquet of memories when days were long and nights so warm, I still remember these.Humph!,We laughed and loved, ,Maybe too well, The best laid plans of yours and mine got left behind.Time went too fast...Just like our Summer Wine.(INSTRUMENTAL BREAK.) Those shadows grow longer now, Leaves start to fall. I still feel the warmth of you, But most of all, This cup of life of ours,We drank. Now grapes are few upon the vine. So let us toast The Vintage Years. The Last Of Our Summer Wine. And always remember this, The promise that I made to you. This Summer Wine of ours, My love, Will last our whole life through. 'BILL OWEN' a.k.a William 'Compo' Simmonite.

This is USA Calling... Our PBS station is currently showing the post-Compo episodes of "Summer Wine". There are some funny moments but, like a later Three Stooges film without Curly, there is something missing...
Great to hear youguys got this in the US too! This was somewhat big in Finland back in the day and they have done dozens of re-runs :) Same with another british series "Heartbeat" that has this similar old english feel.

Wasn't he always attracted to the wrinkled stockings though, in the show? It's not my memory, is it? He always used to go "Phwoar, those wrinkled stockings!" and mean it, didn't he?
I've got the 31 series boxset and I've watched through from 1973 to 1984 so far, and whilst he does go phwoar at the sight of Nora on many occasions, he does also usually shudder, seemingly in disgust, at her wrinkled stockings, going as far as to attempt to pull them up for her on at least one occasion. It's possible that later on he has learned to love even her wrinkled stockings, but not by 1984 (so already later than this record).
I've seen episodes from all over the various seasons at some point or other, but I can only ever recall him seemingly having a "thing" about those stockings. I know he's even said something like "It's those wrinkled stockings that do it for me.". Perhaps he was just being sarky and I didn't know the back story well enough to get it. Interesting though, thanks for that.
I miss you compo TV ain't right without you
Sunday nights had a bath ready for school monday then watched before bed.

I read Kathy Staff was a foil to Benny Hill. Anyone have that footage? I'd LUV to see Benny Hill vs. Norra Batty!
Ha ha I did this in Karaoke and sang both parts.
Does anyone out there.know where I can purchase this song or any other songs the cast may have recorded ?
EBay if your lucky, just bought mine - a small record shop may be able to help though..

Just great
Sadly missed don,t make them like this anymore
At least one Summer Wine fan suggested that, if Bill Owen had lived, Compo & Nora would have ended up MARRIED!!
Is that bill reciting the poem
I need to know the lyrics to these :D
The theme song is so heartwarming, yet heart-aching too.
Is that Compo saying the poem?
