Wind chimes are symbol of summer in Japan.
The characteristic of cast iron wind chimes is the beautiful reverberation of the sound. The use of stone lanterns dates back to Nara Era (6th century), they were introduced to Japan from China. It was used initially as votive lights at temple. And also used them as a decoration in the gardens. Taima-dera temple in Nara has the oldest extant stone lantern.
