How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
We have hauled a lot of shit on our farm over the years and had 3 different spreaders over time. First was NH old school box spreader. Then a Knight Pro Twin Slinger, followed by a Hagedorn push back spreader a bit bigger than this one. A great spreader and loading technique made a shitty job go quickly. We used two skid steers and eventually got a bidirectional loader with a grappling bucket. Didn’t always have the most modern pieces of iron here but always had the ones that made the job quicker, safer and saved costs. Merry Christmas to you all.
Very entertaining! Bobcat and JCB working together seems a lot easier than the pitchfork that I used so many years ago!
I used a bobcat but no climate control. If i dumped anf the wind was right i wore it

Only an old diary farmer that spread sloppy manure with an Oliver super 88 and New Idea wood box spreader with a pc of plywood for a gate, in -40 degree WISCONSIN winters, can enjoy watching you do it with a cab tractor, new spreader and Teleskid.
I've been there. I always loved when the apren chain broke and had to fork it out by hand

The boom of the JCB is very convenient for loading and unloading.
We pile up our manure with an alischalmers hd 14 bulldozer. We let it compost for 2 years. We run a similar spreader they work great. We have been spreading manure for the last 3 weeks due to warm weather here in michigan. My family has 200 head of Hereford and Angus cattle. Nice video stay safe and farm on !
Thank God they're people that work hard to put food on the table for us all.

For faster loading, try backing the spreader into the pile. That way the loaders only need to swing 90 degrees instead of 180. Huge time savings.

@@echutch At one point in time I was managing a large spreading operation with 12 JD785 spreaders. Time was everything. Got rid of the JD785s and went to 5 truck spreaders.
Ryan , that Kuhn spreader sure works nice it throws that manure pretty wide . It sure would be nice to have a big front end loader . Merry - Christmas to you and your family !

The JCB makes loading the spreader look easy. I can't imagine how many loads that would have been with the New Idea. It will be a bummer when you have to give back the Kuhn, it holds a lot.
