the whole situation is sad. poor Rachel getting injured, problems getting chicks fed properly and now this sibling rivalry. i hope she heals soon 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is my favorite osprey nest even with all the sadness when the owls attacked I still wait for Steve and Rachel the next season and now Rachel is hurt. She is such a warrior the way she defended her nest against the owls I pray to God she heals fast. Ty Ladyhawk
Lady Hawk, you have deeper understanding and an ability cope. I think I must be a wuss. In the last paragraph you said the sibling rivalry was far less and that hopefully both chicks will grow up and fledge successfully, I hope this will be the case. Osprey are not common anywhere, they are an amazing bird and every Osprey is precious, seeing one chick attack its sibling like this makes me wish I could intervene, I know I can't but it is hard to watch. Thanks for another (informative) video Lady Hawk.
Hi Valda - the sibling rivalry is much improved! This was the worst day and has not been repeated! They both are doing good and Rachel is feeding them better and is coping with her foot/leg injury!!
This happened Thursday evening too from the female. This is a sign that they are hungry & the oldest wants the youngest male gone. I couldn't watch the video! This is sad; but it is nature. It looks like Rachel needs a good amount if time to heal herself. Tough season for Osprey this year😭😭😭
How awful. I've never seen this happen with chicks this old, it's normally when they are much younger. They are close enough in size that this youngest needs to defend itself or it wont likely make it.
Steve is doing his best to help feed the chicks, fish, and protect. So worried about Rachel as she can’t even hold the fish down to feed herself or the babies.😔
It's hard to see it. Life is very difficult and mom Rachel has a damaged leg, and one child attacks another child. I am upset. Very sorry mom and chick😢😭💚
Hi Lady Hawk, nice to see you here. You’ve been around these big birds a long time. Could there be an intervention on behalf of Rachel’s injury? From what you’ve seen does this appear to be a serious injury. I tend to believe her injury is between her knee and hip. Some sort of fractures or breaks. SAD!!!!
I sometimes wonder when the chicks are close to the same size why the younger doesn’t fight back. I’ve only seen a couple times where they do. Is that just natural instinct?
Hi Peg, unfortunately, a Great Horned Owl came in on July 25th 2019 and took the youngest chick. Rachel tried her best to get to the nest to protect it but the owl is too swift and carries it off. This nest has lost several of the babies from these owl attacks - we are hoping that Halley will be safe and fledge soon! Here is the video of the owl attack th-cam.com/video/AZhYg-9KRGk/w-d-xo.html
@@ladyhawk Thank you for telling me 😢 The youngest is the one who suffered so much from sibling attacks, right? Poor baby! Thank you for posting the video but I don't think I can watch it 😔
Juicy Baby Hi... There’s another video here of Lady Hawks where I believe it was the doctor who did the banding, who said that Rachel’s leg injury did not happy as a result of the banding. I’m not sure which video of hers it is, but hopefully you find it. In the video description is a long note from the doctor. It’s still so sad, though. Needing to use her feet so much for just about everything, she probably has a long healing road ahead since she can’t even give her poor leg a rest. It’s heartbreaking. Anyway, wishing you well, Sherri! ♥️
Hi Juicy Baby - the injury to Rachel happened away from the nest and had nothing to do with the banding. Here is a statement from Dr B on this: "Rachel was injured, on July 9th. This was Dr. B.’s report: While I was up in the nest to get the 1st young, she was flying around and complaining and diving at me like she always does. I do know that she didn't injure the leg around the nest. There are plenty of eye witnesses to that. We did see her fly off when another pair of Ospreys came near, and there may have been an eagle involved as well." When Rachel returned to the nest we could she was injured.
Lady Hawk I didn’t see this, thank you so much for responding, just how for the best, I know it’s the wild, but still let my human feelings get the best of me
Hi Sherri no they will not be rescued. At this point there is no need for an intervention.Rachel is slowing recovering and Steve is bringing a lot of fish and keeping them fed. They also do have a no intervention policy at this nest. So far things are better today than yesterday! And hopefully tomorrow will be better than today! Take care~!!
Rachel was able to feed them a little today and she seems to be able to put more weight on the leg. Steve has been the primary caretaker and is feeding the babies multiple times. and they both ate.
How can you feel sorry for a bird that eats its brother, a mother that watches, when an owl comes by and kills them all? Then the owl then goes back to it's net and and its offspring are eating each other too. Then a racoon comes by and eats them all just to poop them all out in the woods. It is brutal and I sure do not feel sorry for them. Living that hell I sure do!
This comment barley hangs on to being a proper sentence Lolol “ I sure do not feel sorry for them. Living that hell I sure do “ wtf does that mean. Lolol do u feel sorry for them or not cuz my guy u made zero sense after about the half way point lol

Lol why would you want to intervene? The dumb bird should fight back instead of just taking a beating

Typical cows. It is just that time of the month...or year.
This behavior also happens among grown humans. It's just that most people seldom see it. Amazing what access to food will do to an individual.
I saw Steve twice in the video. Why is he so uninterested in feeding? So so 😥.
Thanks for sharing Lady Hawk💛
It's a Wonderful Life!!!
💔😥💔
Probably cause all they do is beat on each other. I wouldn't even come back to this nesr
I'm honestly not surprised so many preditory birds are endangered or at risk with self destructive behaviors like this.
Almost all birds do this. They don't have feelings or care about each other just food and mating like most animals
It's hard to see it. Life is very difficult and mom Rachel has a damaged leg, and one child attacks another child. I am upset. Very sorry mom and chick😢😭💚
At least the little one is eating on it's own.
Hard to watch. Hope Rachel gets better soon.
Pass on this one. Praying for Rachel and the youngest. Nature can be a B..... Edited to incl a thank you to Ladyhawk for always adding the ⚠️
Poor thing. Hopefully gets some gumption and learns to fight back. 😱😰
The other one needs a GHO lesson on being a bully
Looks like someone isn't keeping up with demand.
How is Rachel ? Is Steve still around ?
Survival of the fittest. Hooray for the fittest!!

Owl killed the young osprey after it being beaten up by the older one! Damn..It never had a chance.
God that begging thing won't shut up if I was Steve I'd never come back

Lady Hawk, in current videos, I only see one chick. What happened to the other one?

OOOOOoo... you bad bully, wait till your sibling gets his/her strength...Karma
Simple Nature. Beatiful...
Oh so hard to see. I understand but don't like
The injury took place due to them banding the young??? If that’s the case shouldn’t they right their wrong ?

Tranquility 32 thank you for responding, I had read it was due to the stress of the banding, I just hope they make it

Too sad.
Tonight Dinner is Grilled Osprey and Grilled Baby osprey with Marinated special sauce and a bottle of red wine.
Do you think they will be rescued?

Sono davvero delle brutte bestie
They need time out lol why don't they remove them from the nest
This is what these birds do when food is scarce. It's normal behavior. Why don't YOU grow up.
