In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about India Pakistan war in 1971 also known as Bangladesh Liberation war. After Operation searchlight in March 1971 pakistani Army committed Genocide in Eastern Pakistan. India was looking to intervene but world Opinion was against it. China and America both were supporting the Pakistani President, General Yahya Khan. At that time A pakistani Journalist named Anthony Mascarenhas exposed the massacre of Awami league and local population. Mascarenhas Report helped India to build world consensus against Pakistani Army actions in Bangladesh. India Travelled to Europe and Moscow and later USSR USSR supported India through its naval fleet in Bay of Bengal against US nuclear Armed naval Fleet. You havent mentioned the treaty signed by indira gabdhi with then then Soviet President it waa a securuty treaty in case india needed any help soviet will come in the picture she had done it months before the war that means she was well aware of what Pakistan is upto and China abd America can step in to help pakistan । That was brilliant assesment of the situation and she had signed the treaty ward of any such threat by these two super powers ।
