  • Sausage gravy is the ultimate breakfast comfort food, and can fit nicely with a ketogenic or low carb high fat way of eating.
    Recipe
    1 lb sausage cooked and crumbled
    1 8 ounce cream cheese
    1 1/2 cup heavy cream
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1 tsp onion powder
    1 tsp instant coffee
    1/4 tsp salt
    May need to thin with additional cream. Serve with warm low carb biscuits.

    That idea of thickening gravy with cream cheese is fantastic! I thickened beef gravy with cream cheese tonight and the cream cheese gave the gravy a wonderful, rich taste. We poured the gravy over the beef over the diet doctor's bread that I make. I swear even a high carb person would have devoured it.

    You really need your own show on food network! You are the very best ever. I adore all of your recipes and I love how you are helping so many people with keeping our health with the ketogenic and low carb diets. I am telling all my Doctors and Dietician about you in hopes that they will realize this is the way most of us should be eating.

      It makes me wonder how some doctors even graduated from medical school when they ask questions to patients like that lol. None of them like to do their own research anymore and further their learning . Its very sad

    Made this today going exactly by your recipe. Everyone loved it! It went over chicken fried steak (pork rind coating, air fryer) and mashed cauliflower. Very good, and thank You for producing the video.

    Good stuff. I just ate it as is, without low carb biscuits. Also halved the recipe and used a dash of Worcestershire sauce instead of coffee , as that's all I had. Good, quick breakfast.

    To color the gravy you could also use paprika since it has a very mild flavor and another idea would be to add a little bit of smoked paprika also but a little bit of smoked paprika goes a long way.

    I am absolutely elated to have come across your recipe. Southern sausage gravy is something everyone is always asking me to make. Having started keto fairly recently, my hubby literally said, the very first thing, "you can't stop making your famous traditional southern biscuits and sausage gravy." Well, I'm going to be a hero on Sunday after church ,for sure; perhaps even sooner. Thank you so much. And yeah, you just gots to have you plenty of fresh, course ground black pepper!

    Made this and the biscuits for dinner tonight. It is FANTASTIC! I left out the garlic, but added everything else and I am so happy. My husband is saying thank you as well - he has HD and this is the first biscuits and gravy he has had in 4 years.

    Kristie! So. My husband and I have been eating keto for about a month. It's going really well, but I admit were often just eating plain old meat and some veggies for most meals. Salad with meat on top! When I saw this video, I knew we had to make it. Now I've watched a bunch of your videos and am very excited to try new things. You are now part of our family lexicon. Maybe it's just me, but sometimes, after so many years of believing "fat is bad for you," it sometimes feels "naughty" to eat something with a bunch of Kerrygold in it (or whatever fat, hello heavy cream). Now we say "Kristie says we should eat this!" Hehe. We say this affectionately because we love your recipes

    I made this with Half a cup of heavy cream and half a cup of bone broth and the consitincy and taste are about the same but with far less calories per serving. Thanks Kristie this is still one of my fav recipes from you.

    This looks fabulous . I think I would go ahead and use a tsp of Kitchen Bouquet seasoning liquid though for flavor and color . It only adds 3 carbs to the whole thing from the vegetable base in it and would taste soooo much better than coffee I would think

    Kitchen bouquet has 3 grams of carbs a teaspoon.... that's a bit high, but i might try it. Thank you for this recipe!

      +fubarbox I noticed that too!! Grrr.....I'm going to have to do a video on cream cheese! Makes me nuts! I'm down to two brands available locally. The Fresh Market store brand and Organic Valley. Hopeful that neither changes theirs!

      +Cooking Keto with Kristie I will need to try Organic Valley! I have one question, if you have the time. Your video mentions using 1 cup of heavy cream and the recipe below is either 1 1/2 cups or a 1/2 cup, do you mind clearing that up for my eyes heh. We went ahead and made a double batch with 1 1/2 heavy cream total (so 3/4 each) and added 2 1/2 cups of chicken broth and it came out so amazing. I told my wife I only want this for the next month. I cannot wait for a our fiber to get in for the biscuits!

      +Steve4TW It's 1 1/2 cups, but I will say that I've been reducing the amount of cream cheese by half to one-third (either 4 ounces or 6) and I like that better. In that case, you would reduce the heavy cream to 1 cup.

      Yes. That's one of the biggest challenges--knowing that fat is our friend! Lol! Fat is satisfying and keeps hunger at bay. It doesn't cause heart disease unless you eat it with carbs.

    How about using Hershey's special dark cocoa powder? I would only use a little bit since it really darkens things. It might give it a really interesting note of flavor

    This does look really good !! You made me think back to what my Mom would use to make her gravy brown. If I remember right , I believe it was called Master Gravy and it came in a tiny little brown bottle . I have no idea what kind of ingredience was in it LOL

      Oh yes!! There was a brand by Banquet too! I'd forgotten that. The coffee or bouillon gives it a great depth of flavor.
      Someone else had a great idea of serving this with eggs (over easy or scrambled) if you don't want to try the biscuits.

Hey I got an idea put some on top of mashed cauliflower - Um (Crap) on a shingle . No clue were that Old saying came from . Hamburg gravy over potatoes . ha ha ha .
      Yes seems most low carb recipes always have Eggs in them . If I don't start growing feathers soon- I think I might start clucking WOW

      SharpieNail Art ya know....I make a dish my family calls "chicken mud". It uses the same basic "gravy" recipe which is really more of a cream sauce. Love your idea of serving it over cauli mash or roasted cauli. Hmmm....wheels turning! :-)

      I have alwaysed used Kitchen Bouquet for regular gravy. I think it would be great in this. The flavor and color is good. The difference is that it has 1 carb per teaspoon an I think coffee has none. I think it might be worth it though. There are practically no carbs in any of it.

      It actually has 3 carbs per tbsp , but there are at least 6 servings of gravy in that pan so its still not bad

      never made alfredo sauce with cream cheese. Alfredo is usually cream, butter and lots of cheese - Parmigiano-Reggiano (real, true Italian Parmesan cheese).

      In the US sausage is usually ground pork with spices (sage, thyme, rosemary, etc...). You can use ground beef in place of it, but it would change the flavor a bit. :)

    I have no idea what heavy cream is as we don't have any cream that goes by that name in my country. We have cream, thickened cream and double cream.

    Have you ever tried almond flour in gravy? I was wonder if it would go grainy!

      Don't do it!!! It would definitely be grainy!! I've heard from others thst neither almond flour nor coconut flour works. Arrowroot or gluconnaman might be okay. I prefer using the cream cheese or some parm as a rich thickener. Xanthan gum is okay, but can get an unusual slimy texture if you over do it.

    hi there. i am in texas and have trouble finding heavy cream. i have half/half and heavy whipping cream as my choices. Where have you found heavy cream in NC? I just figured walmart or aldis would have it...but not fortunate to find it yet.

      Ambrose Joseph I'm not familiar with that area, but Aldi's is generally in more rural areas. Have you looked up locations on the Aldi corporate website? I'm betting you have one within an hour's drive. Trader Joe's isn't close to us, but when we go near there for any reason I go in and stock up! Good luck finding one. We love ours!

    This was so good. My biscuits not so much. I made your miracle biscuits and subbed coconut flour for the oat fiber. well they tasted like coconut lol go figure.

      When you sub coconut flour for oat fiber you only need half the amount of coconut flour. So 4 Tbs of oat fiber = 2 Tbs of coconut flour.

    I notice that you don't have a mic on you. Your videos are very hard to hear, and I have an external speaker that I have tried. Still to low. Someone that has a low voice should use a mic not just the mic on the camcorder. I do like your recipes but have to rewind to get ingredients. Thankfully you have them listed here.
