How would you suggest going about funding? Money/Funds always have me down and at loss of faith..I have been collecting GoPro/ got a MacBook Pro last year, been practicing editing but still no way to get my first SV
Just a tip on cutting line on boat: put a couple of firm wraps of tape around it before you cut - now cut through the tape so core doesn’t fall apart. Then burn the ends. Rigging 101.
@@stelioshondrocolos1869 Why the hell are you so offended? I never questioned his qualifications and there was certainly no intention of insulting James abilities. I was only observing what I saw. I was wondering if it's normal for a diesel engine to rock that much as it is starting.
Every sailor felt your pain when that halyard came apart . I wire them together with a bit of mechanics wire . I poke it through both lines an inch or two back loop and twist together facing away from the direction it is going then tape them up to be one line so no spot is two lines trying to get through the sheave . Like a link in a chain - the lines do not overlap and the tape makes it a smooth transition with nothing to get hung up. Won't break, fits the sheave because the line is not doubled up and you can tug on it more than with other ways . When done pull out the wire and put it back in the tool box - everyone should have a bit of mechanics wire in the tool box .
Whoa whoa whoa. I don’t want to be the guy to say “WTF man”...but WTF MAN! We’ve been a little worried here on the tubes. I’m glad to see you again James!
Glad to see you're back James..... At the end of the video when you thought you had it threaded through and the splice obviously gave way. That look of you staring up at the mast says it all. "S#*t". We've all been there many times....
James, I have been following you you for several years now. when I first found your channel I thought you were a bit of a Jerk. But when ever I searched on how to make certain repairs your videos keep coming up. I found myself coming back to your channel. You were always able to get things working in most harshest of conditions and in most cases with what you had available. Your videos have gotten 100% better from the first one I watch. I have become a Fan and look forward to your videos each and every week now. 👍
I'm very happy to have found your video because the boat in front of yours, on the other side of the pontoon, it's my boat, it's been 1 year and a half since I could come and pick it up, what a joy you have no idea, thank you very much and good luck
u rock! i lived that life for 30 years. beautiful. and did almost no video or photos. duh. sooo great to go there vicariously through u 😎 THANKS JAMES🏄♂️🏄♀️❤️🤙🌞👙👗🩴🕶🦆🐋🐆🦒🍄🍀🌈🚣♀️⛴🔱🇿🇦🇯🇲🇧🇸🏴☠️🏁🇺🇸
Really enjoy the fact you decided to do two videos unlike so many other channels who drag out stuff for months just to have content. Keep doing you bro.
Finally have waited so long for my favorite sailing youtub. can't wait for the next video. I wish I could be there. have a good day and good weather...
For your lines, a snake works great. It's works with the same idea of a finger puzzle the harder you pull the more it grabs the rope or cable. Something to look into if you like. Great job though. Good to see you back like the work your doing take care be safe..
Impressed with your progress. Your rigging looks “ok” but you know that, as long as you sail in good weather only with divert ports the boat will be fine till Florida where the cost of major upgrade will be so much lower. You know this better than most, take your time, wait for weather windows and enjoy the ride
It always comes apart easier. When I was young my uncle had a 76 triumph in about a 100 pieces all around the house and garage. I asked my aunt once about it and she told me it cost a lot to get it tuned up and rebuilt....well that bike has yet to be rebuilt and I asked the question 30 years ago. At least you got those furlers to work in a lot less time.
Fabulous vid to come in and watch with a cold beer after my entire aft cabin frame collapsed and rain pissed in so bad it was up to the shin. Gotta love sailors life. Thanks capt James 🚢 ⛵ ☠
I was wondering what happened to you. You have become a weekly staple in my life watching your videos. Glad everything's ok keep up the good work on your boat.
Do you think the previous owner watches your channel? See all the work you do to make this boat great again. Haha maybe they will try to buy it back. Good to see a video from you!
Hey James... Great Narration... Ha! Gen Set looks like R2-D2 when he gets excited... I laughed my ass off when the halyard came down at the end... "I got it! ..... fu@#-!" A'well.. just use a heavy skinny weight to re-mouse a line down the mast... Love the vids... Thanks..
Congrats on the 100k. I’ve been watching from the beginning , it been a hell of a ride. A blunt knife is dangerous- get a simple ceramic hone and touch it up daily. Also more Laura in front of the camera 😍
G'day James, I reckon your rigging needs attention mate. There were several lines that were chaffing and need replacing. The rigging looked to be on its final passage, assuming you're not planning on bluewater, open-ocean cruising with these dodgy lines. Your current lines are roasted. Due you have access to new Dyneema, Spectra, or Vectran lines. Plus, those winches looked spotty as hell. I don't know if you have access to newer winches like Anderson, Harken, Lewmar, or Atal? I watched you clean your furlers ~ it was obvious, the bearings and seats were rusted. Unless dismantled, you don't know the extent of internal damage and corrosion. Good luck getting Zingaro cruising mate. Be safe and enjoy. Cheers from Margaret River, Western OZ 🇦🇺.
The balls in the bearings are made of Delrin (Polyoxymethylene POM) and the housings are cast aluminium, so no rust. James analysed it correctly as being dust, sand, etc. that has accumulated in the bearings over the years.
Absolutely your best video, including the ones with Kin. Congratulations, if it were me I would have walked away after seeing the boat for the first time, even though I had paid good money for it !!!
holy sh*t your videos are up another level on sound /music/editing. I mostly have videos on while working so the audio is 69% of what Im ingesting, the other is your sail knowledge and your first mate.
ya i always sew my splices together when replacing lines and wow furlex thats what i have on my boat always heard internal sails are a pain but we shall see when your out in the open ocean
The obsessive compulsive in me wants to take a small can of what ever it is to that beautiful decking and make it glow timber. You really scored well with the boat as parts of it begin to shine. Nice.
Yo dude. I have the same Kemp/Seldon spar, shrouds and T terminal fittings. I dropped a 6 year old forward lower shroud in New Caledonia. I got a good enough repair to get to Australia, but upon contacting the rigger who made all the shrouds they said the T fittings have a 5 years lifespan and then need to be inspected yearly there after. They fail from stress cracks under the T where it hits the fitting, meaning you have to pull the fitting in order to dye test it and see the cracks.
@@thelastpirate Yes you can. Sorry but if you want piece of mind that is the only way to get it. The rigger in Sydney talked me into dropping the rig and I did. The bill was $8k when all was said and done. If you want to do it yourself, you can mark the turnbuckles, back them off and get the T out of the slot and dye the backside of it. Do this one at a time. You won't need to do the headstay or staysail stay as the eyes have better longevity. You will need to stabilize the mast with halyards (good and tight) where you pull the shroud. You can get a local machine shop to point you in the direction to find the dye. Also, I would call seldon US in Charleston for advice. They are good to deal with. Get a second or third opinion it is not a trivial job, but you should be able to knock it out in a short week. The alternative is get good insurance, but still no one really wants to drop a rig. I was lucky it was a lower and not a cap shroud that let go on my rig. We cut the swage apart and it was fine. The failure is in the fitting at the bend underneath where it meets the slot and you can't set that without pulling it.
Nice to have you back, James. I appreciate the content; love the vibe of the vid and looking forward to the next one. That engine starts like a samba batucada, lol, perhaps new engine mounts when you reach the USA?
Glad to see you back. I was concerned you had fallen overboard. Haha Hope you can get on a schedule to get back to FLA. I know how much easier it will be to get work done.
Frequency over Intensity... I'd love to see 15 minutes of back video taken, every 2-3 days. Most channels produce for Friday to Monday with an emphasis on Sat/Sunday. There are other days in the week you know... To feed our vicarious lives we live through you.

Bro when you get to FL I want to come help you work on your boat!!!
I’ll be a patron soon, just getting a few things in-line.
Daaam time flys well deserved 100k and it was a great video can't wait for part 2

The view of your Oyster from atop the mast was awesome! What a killer, kick ass boat you have!
James, check your motor mounts on your generator. That motor seems to be rocking just a little to much.
I also noticed that. It was rocking pretty good when it was starting.

If a diesel is struggling for fuel it rocks more than a rocking horse till it gets sufficient fuel...
*Yeah, James needs motor mounts **2:33** too!!! ahaha (Read MaweeBoy post for ref.) **2:41*

This may be the only mast and spreader tour on TH-cam! Thats why we're here. Maintenance and technical. Thanks!
Congrats on the 100K James

I don't know why, but I love the boat project videos.
We are SOOOOOO GLAD you are back brother!!!!
Love the quality of the audio and soundtrack is epic! Still watching and liking since your first video, keep it up Brotha! 👍👍👍👍
Cleaning is part of taking it apart, so putting it together is not so bad.
Get that favorite knife to a whetstone quick.
Dull knives give the worst cuts.
Dyneema (Spectra, etc.) is best cut using a ceramic blade. Steel blades get dull very quickly on those materials
I want to sit here for 1h and 20 mins watching james 😩
Great video. Sad to see the maintenance ones stop
Greetings from Costa Rica.Congratulations on the refit.Suerte y Saludos.
Thank goodness YOUR back!! It was rough without your vlogs.
