      Okay, I'm not a fan of this lady- I know nothing about her, but I have heard some are trying to make the churches unable to NOT perform a wedding for gays if it is not their belief that the union is sanctified by God. The gays should be able to LEGALLY marry if they so choose, but they should NOT be able to make a Christian preacher marry them. Or a Christian baker decorate a cake in a way they aren't comfortable b/c of their religion. Why should either one be able to infringe on the other?

    • @maargenbx1454
      @maargenbx1454 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@donnagarner6007 I agree with you somewhat: the owner of a private business should be able to turn away business. However, agents of the State should absolutely not be allowed to discriminate against members of the State.
      When officiating at a wedding the religious leader is acting as an agent of the State. This is why they declare people married “by the power vested in me by the State of --“, not by the power of God or Jesus or Allah. Marriage is a contract regulated by the State, and the State allows people in certain positions to act as State agents in this regard.
      The State recognizes marriage contracts between two adults regardless of gender. If religious leaders want to discriminate against some members of the State, then the State should remove these leaders from their role as State agents. In other words: divest these leaders of the power to officiate *any* marriages.
      This would clarify to people something many seem to forget: marriage is a civil contract. All the religious ceremony during a wedding is simply traditional window dressing - none of it makes anyone married, just as a baptism or bris or First Communion or bat mitzvah doesn’t confer citizenship.

    How adorable, level headed, and kind... is this young man. What a wonderful spokesman he is, for us all. He shows that, not everything need be some huge fight. Some things, like being free to build a life with whomever you chose, should never be a fight. I just recently married for the first time, late in life. I married the love of my life, my best friend for decades. He is the most amazing man in the world.
    But, here's the thing... I would hope that, had 'my one' ended up being a woman (as I will admit, it could have), I would have been just as free to live that life of love, just as freely as I do my husband. And there is absolutely zero reason, that everyone else in the world, should not have that freedom. And not only legally, but they should also feel that this freedom is accepted, in their own communities. We are forgetting the point of our country, is that we are all free. We are free to live as we wish. We are free to walk away from anything we don't like. We should all be free to build our "family" as we wish. Otherwise, what does "being equal and free", really mean?

    No wonder Vicky is so sad and scared, this bill will force women like her to marry other women... oh wait, no it won't. Nothing will change about her life. She just won't be able to force her particularly nasty views on others.

    Good luck to Andrew. I wish him all the best after being brought up with such hateful people, who base their bigotry on their religious beliefs.And those universities that threaten students with explulsion if they don't endure conversion therapy are deeply prejudiced, despicable people.

    I totally agree with Andrew.
    If your business, school or academic institution, etc, receives federal funding, discrimination of any kind should not be allowed.
    You can have your religious institutions of learning, of course don't expect to be federally funded in the near future.

    I'd just like to ask her what's more important as an American, individual liberties or the liberty for the religious to tell the rest how we can live. This isn't hard .....you're either free to live as you desire or your oppressed under the boot of someone else.

    • @MelioraCogito
      @MelioraCogito ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're* ... as in _"you're oppressed..."_
      Nonetheless, you're absolutely right in the message you convey. _Reich-wing libertarianism_ is a contradiction in political philosophy. You can't claim to be a libertarian while acting to strip individual liberty away from those you don't agree with.
      _Live and let live. Do no harm to others._

      That's ironic considering they are hijacking what was traditionally a religious institution to suit their own peverted agenda.

      @@MelioraCogito There is no contradiction considering the term is an oxymoron. Your either a libertarian or you are not. I don't believe corrupting the institution of marriage for the sake of 2% of the population is a good move for society, they should have stuck with civil union but they are never happy until they have stomped all over your beliefs and traditions.
