    I have Spina Bifida. My parents didn’t get the surgery as an option except the shunt. But I don’t regret, my parents don’t regret me not getting surgery. I have an amazing life, and incredible HUGE family that support me in any way. Yeah I’m stuck in a wheelchair but it’s ok.
    So happy this baby gets the chance to walk

      @@vinzclortho680 Hi, she’s almost 3 now. She’s full time wheelchair user. Half paralyzed from her thighs down. But she’s smart like gifted and very healthy. She only has 1 back surgery and shunt with no revisions or any surgeries after that. Haven’t been qualified for in utero but still thankful. Praying for your safe delivery.

    My son will be 22 next week. Born with Spina Bifida. There was only a handful of this type of surgery done back when we found out he had Spina Bifida. My how technology has changed. I will say the Drs. do say they can have this, they can have that...the fact of the matter is...the Drs. don't know. He did get a shunt and with only one revision but he was in his early teens after a surgical complication...he is no longer shunt dependent. He has no cognitive delay. And he does have orthopedic issue but walking with braces, constipation and urological. He is a miracle in many ways.

    How do they stop the fetus from feeling pain during and after its surgery? Modern medicine is amazing, but that is definitely on my mind.

      From what I understand the drugs they give the mother crosses the placenta and that makes the baby pain free.

    • @tanlund5735
      @tanlund5735 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They directly anesthetize the fetus with a needle

    • @cooperfreckles
      @cooperfreckles 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do know that the general anesthesia passes the placenta and effects the baby. But that is all I know so great question. They must either make sure baby is out due to giving mama anesthesia or give baby another anesthesia.

    • @conradhernandez9191
      @conradhernandez9191 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m sorry but this is wrong in my eyes. I was born in 1980, i have Mylomeningocele and yes it was awful and trying when i was growing up. But, see, going in before you even know what’s going to be the outcome could be more damaging.

    • @conradhernandez9191
      @conradhernandez9191 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Absolutely not. As a parent, you want to give your son/daughter the best possible chance of walking and avoiding any complications. Hydrocephalus is one of the main ones to worry about. Trust me, there's Is more that can come out the surgery than bad.
