This happened to me and my family. My mother was diagnosed with HD and grandparents never had it. Turns out my mother was adopted and we were never told until after her diagnoses

Mike - thanks for sharing a little bit of your situation. These "unique" situations are actually very common in the HD community. Reach out to us if we can ever be of any support or provide more education around HD to you or your family! -HDYO Team

My step grandchildren's mom just passed away from Huntington's disease this past summer. I am terrified that they may have this or pass tye gene to their children.

How is it possible that the grandparents were asymptomatic, but their father got it?

@lollopisemis this is somewhat true. You can read more on our website about how this may happen in one family. en.hdyo.org/you/articles/53

Thanks for the link! However I can't find an answer as to how this desease can skip one generation?

Initially posted a link to the wrong section. I updated to new section that has a little more info on the genetic risks.

Asymptomatic means they didn't have the symptoms. You can gave the gene and not develop symptoms into later in life. Their are stories that people had the defected gene but didn't develop symptoms and then died of different causes such as an accident or heart attack. It does not skip generations. It can only be passed on my an affected parent.

If they are sisters... Why are their accents different? Maybe different mothers, and grew up in different countries? Just wondering. I'm glad they decided to tell their stories. Bless you both.
