    great tutorial, just one question. If I'm not creating my own sound but using a library, the only step I should follow is the velocity change from 6:00? thanks a lot!

    Very useful, thanks. There are very few other tutorials on the Web concerning synths or samplers programming for EWI. Unfortunately, there is still a point on which I wish we had information : legato. When playing a wind instrument, there is a strong difference of volume and tone between the first note of a musical phrase (especially when "tonging"), and the next notes. In a synth or sampler, either for a realistic wind instrument sound, or for a synth sounds, this can usually be solved by activating a "legato" mode. This skips the attack of the sound and starts playing the next note at the position (in the wavesample) where the previous note stopped. Kontakt seems to provide such a legato mode (in tonemachine mode). Unfortunately, to trigger a legato effect, the notes must overlap. That is, the Note Off signal of the first note must occur AFTER the Note On of the next note. This is easy to do with a keyboard by holding the first key pressed. Unfortunately, the EWI-USB is a real monophonic instrument, and the notes are always stricly consecutive : the first note is off, then the second note is on. There is no delay, but there is no overlapping either. So the legato mode is never triggered. Have you ever studied this topic and found any solution ? Thanks.

    Very good expanation, you go into deep details on what needs to be done to configure Kontakt Samples to be used with an EWI. Do you think it would be possible to complement this video, with an example on how to take any "keyboard" instrument of the several that are around , and adapt the same programming to handle it with an EWI ? Thank you very much

      You can add (glide) portamento (CC#5) to anything you program in Kontakt

    NI Kontakt people should add simpler setup for wind controllers. Some libraries have been specifically designed for wind instruments, EWI and breath controllers and work fairly well, although not as good as SWAM audio modeling.
    It is outrageous to as musicians to go through such steps, that would be almost impossible without your excellent tutorial. It works with older factory selection instruments.
    New factory library 2 has completely hidden access to external modulation, and it seems that the only way to set up wind instrument is to use Kontakt Script Processor (KSP). Why NI people think that musicians should become programmers?
    SWAM is fantastic, Omisphere works well, Ketron, Dyna Sample and Yamaha VL70m hardware synths are great, no problem with setups.
    I have wasted enough time on Kontakt and will have to give up using it with my wind instruments (Ayodyo Sylpho, Akai 5000, 4000s, USB).

    Nice! Can you show up how to control attack time with breath?

    • @JohnIsley
      @JohnIsley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's there in the envelope assigned to the amp. Play with the ramp up time in the attack slope and that will change your attack. You can also map different samples to breath intensity. There are any number of ways to change the attack characteristics of a sound. I will do a followup video demonstrating some of these concepts once I have a moment to focus on it.
