THats a good solution to get analog inputs from DIY controllers, Wheels, peddals , handbrake, and flying joysticks; for Sims, Simcade racing games, Arcade racing games, a lots of similar entretaiment software. I really like midi controllers, audio, musical synthesizers, lighting and automation. But I'm still a beginner in microcontroller and DSP programming. If possible, I would like to exchange information and experiences accumulated in our practices. Sorry for my basic English. I have an original Arduino MEGA Board, but I found the Tensy and ESP32 boards very interesting. I'm currently interested in building a midi keyboard, preferably without mechanical contacts, I've been observing the possibilities of infrared sensors, such as the CRY70 and TCRT5000, to instantly generate midi codes for each key pressed: Midi Channel, midi note, speed, after Touch and others. Only just come across your channel, and honestly all I can say is WOW. Just WOW!!!. Definitely going to look into the BLE midi. I have some USB host modules that I've used before for USB midi input. Would be nice to stream that out over blue tooth. Also have some of those cap touch modules the idea was going to be a stylophone without a stylus, but I started an analogue synth build and never got around to it.

Also, the display call functions in the code introduce a slight delay, which means that it's not a good idea to play the instrument and navigate the menu at the same time.

Hello! really big fan of you work. i have a technical question: how do you implement velocity on the capacitive buttons? is it a thing of teensy or not? I was looking at the MPR121 module for capacitive buttons (that can be used with arduino as a reliable touch sensor instead of using teensy that has the same circuit built in) but the velocity part i really dont understand

Amazing job! I was playing with a disposable vape pen the other day and I saw it includes an air pressure sensor which passes it’s analog output to the coil serving as a heating element. I instantly thought about your instruments. Have you tried to mod one of those into a Bluetooth midi instrument? The problem is the ones I have access to are way too damn thin for the smallest modules.

Thanks! Definitely don't count on making this your new year project, at least not this new year, sorry. My priority right now is to make the next version sales worthy. If that works out, then I'll consider my options for sharing code and schematics, and maybe putting together a DIY OHMs kit. Anyway, the project right now is still not where I want it to be. I already have a whole list of things to implement on the next iteration. It's a super enjoyable and functional instrument (and yes, it sounds pretty amazing), but sharing it properly would take enormous amounts of work on documentation, answering questions etc. which I'm not prepared to do right now, certainly not before it's actually "finished".

@@AbhipolV The real priority for the next version is to perfect the body and keys. As for the memory, I'm at 98% of capacity for the Teensy 4.0, but I'll probably be moving to the Teensy 4.1 which will give me a lot more flash memory for samples and more pins as well.

Awesome stuff. Maybe instead of audio delay effects, it would be easier to implement a MIDI sequencer that records a beat while you hold Record button and then loops it. I did not feel skilled enough to build the entire wind instrument from scratch. So I first bought a used Yamaha WX11 for cheap to experiment with and to get the feel of it. That device doesn't even have a standard MIDI out. What I did was add an Arduino Mini Pro with a NR24L01 and USB battery and 9V converter (because WX11 needs ~9V on input) to WX11 and an Arduino Micro Pro with a NR24L01 to my PC and made myself a wireless WX11. I did not choose Bluetooth MIDI because it often adds some latency. With those two NR24L01 I can push about 3.7k of reliable (through a custom ACK logic) payload bytes per second with sub-2ms latency. Now I feel ready to experiment with a fully custom build. Still, haven't yet decided on the implementation. I definitely like the idea of a small device as your OHM. I'm a bit wary that arms could get more tired if you have to hold them up, closer to your mouth, so in this regard, it might be better to aim for a tube-like device. What are your experiences with OHM? Don't your arms feel more tired than after playing a sax? Another thing is that my mouth seems to salivate too much, at least when I open it wide enough for a sax-style mouthpiece, such as Yamaha WX11. Usually, off-the-shelf EWIs solve this with a drain tube running down to the end. But it's still ugly to have my device dripping, yack. I would want at least to have a hidden tube exit with a small shelf where I can put a small sponge that will soak up it all, and then I can discretely squeeze it with a soft tissue. Of course, it would be even better to design a sealed mouthpiece that doesn't require opening my mouth too much, thus, hopefully, keeping my saliva reflexes at bay. Regarding the buttons, I haven't yet decided if I want MPR121 + touch or maybe go for WARBL (also an interesting wind controller with open hardware and software) design with optical reflection sensors. With those, you get a pitch bend effect for every finger, similar to how a real wood instrument works when you partially hover a tonehole. Also, regarding the pitch bend - should I go for Yamaha style with lip-pressure and Hall sensor, or Kontinuum-style with the entire mouthpiece bending. So many decisions to make... and not enough time, as always 😀
How do you shift octaves? ….. oh wait, you’re a sax player so there’s going to be keys. I love the octave shifting with breath pressure that is on the WABL , as flute player

Someone PLEASE invent a kit that you retrofit to an old junk saxophone, that turns it into a EWI, with headphone jack, for practicing. The trick will be to replace the mouthpiece, with one that bypasses the air outside the horn (after your breath input has already been transduced into a usable control signal). From there, you only need to add something to the keys, to tell the brain box what note you're playing. Perhaps Hall effect sensors, perhaps optical... who knows. If you make it simple and bulletproof, you'll sell A MILLION UNITS. Or just make it open source.
PLEASE: Have an intelligent harmonizer onboard!???? Better yet be able to load midi files onto it and play the sequence in step--- a keypress is a beat or half beat etc..... This wins me over hands down!!!!
