How did you manage to plug 2 x12 sockets as it is shown at 22:04 at the back of the clock spring, when at 2:51 you have used the clock spring on the right (that I do have as well.. ready to install). What I am Missing!?

Hey I know this video is a bit older but maybe you can help me. The m3 never had the heated steering wheel right? And non M models never had the option to get heated steering with leather. Usually it's always the hard polyurethane. How did you get yours in leather? Was it reupholstered?
Hello Xantor thank you for the question! This was one of the big projects so I still have some fresh memory about it 🤗 I believe that the heated steering wheel I got is from E70, although there are no part numbers on it. It’s artificial leather so the feel is not that good as the original Novillo leather ☹️, as I mentioned in the video. It’s pretty easy to find a heated steering wheel for this project. And I think it is a good idea to reupholster the heated steering wheel to match the interior upholstery 👍
@@funcarsgoodpeople but yours was with leather and M stitching right? Or did I muss something. Because the polyurethane one is just "basic" black without the soft touch and the stitching
Hi Xantor I misunderstood your question 😅 I got this heated steering wheel from eBay. The item name was “BMW M SPORT TECH 1/3/X E82/E87/E90/92/84 NEW NAPPA LEATHER HEATED SW THICK&SOFT” and it referred to part number 61316956550 and 61316944816. The seller is atlanticship and they shipped from Belarus. I chose it after carefully looking at the shape and style which suit my “stock” M3 😂 However you can still tell the difference by its texture. Looks and feels real plastic. So maybe you can get one with the shape you like and have it re-upholstered with the material you prefer 🤗
Great detail! I just finished this on my F30. Question: I noticed the wiring diagram calls for a 10A fuse but your test shows only 5A current. I realized that I used only a 5A fuse and am considering moving up to a 10A now, just to be safe. Are you able to look up on ISTA if a 10A fuse is necessay on an F30 model (2015 328i)? Thanks and great job - subbed!
Hi José thank you for your feedback! I’m glad to hear your success! According to the F30 wiring diagram yes a 10A fuse on F48 is used for the heated steering wheel. I think it’s safe to use 5A as far as the fuse stay intact. But if a 15A fuse can get blown for the steering wheel, there must be something wrong! You are welcome to mail me for the wiring diagrams 🤗
Hi Jack yes, the part number I listed here is the one with the 4-pin harness as you mentioned. However the actual one I got is another clockspring with 3-pin harness. The main body is the same so I modified it to the 4-pin harness as you see in the video. In another words, if you could only find a clockspring with 3-pin, you can also modify it like I did.
I did one retrofit the back doors modules i put thre windows shades but now the windows dont go down and the doors dont locks the only thing that works now is just the windows shades work and the soft close doors dont work also i dont know how to program the door modules so everything will work again i need help thanks
Hi baby z I got your message. Sounds interesting! Could you please send the information over to funcarsgoodpeople@gmail.com so I can take a look? Any link, webpage or tutorial video that you used for the retrofit?
i just have one question. my car already has an heated steering wheel but i want to add the m sport steering wheel. now my problem is finding a heated steering wheel. is it possible to convert a steering to be heated or do i have to specifically buy a heated steering wheel.
Hi xkhan175 thank you for your question! My suggestions are; 1. Good news you already have the heating function. You are going to make it more easily. If you have an E9x, you need to look for a steering wheel with heater control module inside. 2. First you can look for styles of the heated steering wheels you like. I started with the ones that fit E-generations because the pinion mechanism of the F-generation does not match. I'm not 100% sure. This one in the video comes from E70 X5 or X6 I believe. Maybe there are some aftermarket ones that can fit E9x. 3. If you don't like any of them. Sure you can convert one! I think you can use the heater pad and control module from your original heated steering wheel, and combine with a M Sport style one. Best luck with your project! You are very welcome to share your success here!
Hi, I have a question regarding the heater pad. I bought the standard steering wheel not that sport one you had and it was impossible to remove the heater pad from the original leather. As I see you wheel has new leather on it not the factory. Did you had any problem removing and refitting the heater pad? If not I will buy that sport steering wheel and fit the pad into my M wheel. (I just dont want to waste another steering wheel and money on the project :D) Thanks!
Hello Benedek! I bought the whole steering wheel and I guess it was from an E70 X5. Thank you for telling us about the difficulties of isolating the heater pad, I really didn’t know that. But I believe the glue will be some trouble and it requires good leather work. I think it’s cool to “transplant” the heater pad and skin to another steering wheel, or to “implant” a new heater pad. I’ve seen such heater pads on the net. Will they be your option?
@@funcarsgoodpeople I was looking for an aftermarket heating pad. There are some good ones on aliexpress. However I want to keep the OEM look and the e90 controller wont control anything but the oem heating pad, so I want to transplant the pad to my M steering wheel.
You are right! There’s safety concerns about the electrical power modules. So OE will be best choice. I do not have experience doing the skin of the steering wheel but I believe it’s possible. Please let us know your result and best luck👍
@@funcarsgoodpeople Just for reference. The sport steering wheel's heating pad is much much easier to separate from the leather (the normal is nearly impossible). However the pad will not fit perfectly to an M steering wheel but it is doable. Now I have my heated M steering wheel with paddles and everything. Thanks for the video and the diy that gave me the courage to start. :)
Hello Samuel thank you for the question 😅 My bad if I didn't make it more clear. There are 3 wires coming out from the steering wheel switch cluster to the fusebox; Wire 1: the 12V power from terminal 15. Pin #9 BL/GN in the video 17:18 . Wire 2: the ground. Wire 3: the ground. Pin #7 BL/BR in the video 17:18 . I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions!
Hello Socrate Disciple's, I collected all these parts from the Internet. Yeah it's a bit tedious I agree but since there's no retrofit kit available, so we just have to go stright with it. Here I recommend a few online shops for you; Schmiedmann Odense, ECS Tuning and FCP Euro. Just search the part numbers I listed in the description and you can compare availability and price easily. Good luck!
Just realised the mistake I made thinking that those 2 plugs 2x12 gets plugged only in the clock spring. Wrong. The clock springs plugs into DTC module (disk) through 6 pins while the other 6 (later 12 pins that you modified from 6 gets everything else..
Hi SD yes you’ve got it! Maybe I did not explain clearly enough. Thank you very much for making it clear. You have the right click spring so there’s less to prepare!
Hello Patryk yes! The E60 has similar structure of the steering wheel heater. Please look for the heated steering wheel: 32346763360/32346763374/32346763387. The heater switch (located besides the steering column adjuster switch) cluster: 61316947788/61316947787. Steering wheel electronics control unit: 61316953321/61316953322. I think these are essential parts for E60 and there are some other peripheral parts like connectors and trim panels. Please visit realoem.com and check the parts that fit to option code S248A=Yes (steering wheel heater.)
If my car has lane departure warning would that mean I need to source a SZL slip ring with obvs heated option as well as Lane departure? Thanks in advance
Hi Patryk thank you. The option code for lane departure warning is S5ADA (or 5AD). When I check realoem.com catalog, the SZLs are neither dependent to S5ADA nor S248A. This means lane departure warning and heated steering wheel do not require special part number of the SZL. Your original SZL may work. Best wishes for your success! (I do not have your VIN for using realoem.com so my result may not be 100% precise.)
Hello Magnar do you mean the wiring diagram of the circuits inside A72 SZL module? Unfortunately this is not found in ISTA. There are no detail circuit diagram of any the modules. I show everything I can find in this video. Actually, the steering wheel heating circuit does not go into A72 SZL. The connector X10171 is right on the clock spring. The pin assignments of X10171 are shown at 16:52 and 17:23 And if you are curious about the original 12-pin connector X1880 on the A72 SZL, I can send you its pin assignment (PIB). Please send an email to funcarsgoodpeople@gmail.com!
@@funcarsgoodpeople Hi! Yes, I would love to have the pinout of X1880, as I'm trying to reverse engineer, and use this steering wheel with stalk in another car/setup, and need to connect power and canbus to a sniffer :)
Hi Shadman I sourced these original wire from another E92. The seller sold me the entire wiring harness of the infotainment/audio system so I had extra materials to use. You can also look for suitable wires in electrics shop. Just be careful with buying correct gauges!
Hello CrispCarGuru, I searched the part for 335i with steptronic (should be the DCT you are mentioning about) and heater, it is 32306795573, Airbag sport st. whl. lthr Steptronic. I know some 335i can swap M3 DCT steering wheel directly, while some need to modify the shift paddle circuit for their transmission. I have no information about this part so you are welcome to share your success here! Please let everybody know!
Hi JustBeingHonest the total is roughly 500USD. I get the parts used from eBay and Yahoo. The major parts are; Heated steering wheel $399 USD Heater control module $29.99 USD Clockspring $980 JPY~ 10USD Lower cover $35 USD
Hello fly bobbie yes you are right 😂 Now I feel like a heated shifter for the manual transmission, which is never available on all cars. A glove will be an easier solution!

Hello Cole, on the E9x the steering wheel heating is not controlled by any module so coding is not necessary. However if you really want to make it 100% OE, just add VO (vehicle order) "$248" to CAS and NFRM/FRM so that's all. On F-series and so on, coding is required but I don't have the experience so far 🤗 thank you for the question!

This was one of the big projects so I still have some fresh memory about it 🤗
I believe that the heated steering wheel I got is from E70, although there are no part numbers on it.
@@funcarsgoodpeople Thank you for checking and confirming, I may just go out and switch the fuse to 10A to be safe.😁
Does the new clock spring come with that harness attached to it? (the one to the left of the two main connectors on the clock spring)
Hi xkhan175 thank you for your question! My suggestions are;
Hi,
I have a question regarding the heater pad. (I just dont want to waste another steering wheel and money on the project :D)
Thanks!
@@maszter100 Wow definitely good new. ANOTHER SUCCESS DIY! I am super happy you made it and thank you Benedek for the comments!❤❤❤
I keep getting lost on what wires go to the fuse box, i know wire 2 but where do the others come from?
Hello Samuel thank you for the question 😅 My bad if I didn't make it more clear.
There are 3 wires coming out from the steering wheel switch cluster to the fusebox;
Wire 1: the 12V power from terminal 15. Pin #9 BL/GN in the video 17:18 .
Wire 2: the ground.
Wire 3: the ground. Pin #7 BL/BR in the video 17:18 .
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions!
so where we can buy everything we need to retrofit a heating steering?
Hi, can the same be done to an E60? Also whats the part number for the heating mat please😊
Thanks alot, you're a legend!
Do you have the wiring diagram for the 12pin connector on the szl module?
Hello Magnar do you mean the wiring diagram of the circuits inside A72 SZL module? Unfortunately this is not found in ISTA. There are no detail circuit diagram of any the modules. I show everything I can find in this video.
Actually, the steering wheel heating circuit does not go into A72 SZL. The connector X10171 is right on the clock spring. The pin assignments of X10171 are shown at 16:52 and 17:23
And if you are curious about the original 12-pin connector X1880 on the A72 SZL, I can send you its pin assignment (PIB). Please send an email to funcarsgoodpeople@gmail.com!

Hi! Yes, I would love to have the pinout of X1880, as I'm trying to reverse engineer, and use this steering wheel with stalk in another car/setup, and need to connect power and canbus to a sniffer :)

where did u get those blue wires
Hi Shadman I sourced these original wire from another E92. The seller sold me the entire wiring harness of the infotainment/audio system so I had extra materials to use.
You can also look for suitable wires in electrics shop. Just be careful with buying correct gauges!
do you know the dct heated wheel part number?
Hello CrispCarGuru, I searched the part for 335i with steptronic (should be the DCT you are mentioning about) and heater, it is 32306795573, Airbag sport st. whl. lthr Steptronic.
I know some 335i can swap M3 DCT steering wheel directly, while some need to modify the shift paddle circuit for their transmission.

I enjoyed the long form video very technical and detailed. If you continue to record and edit this way archive them or create a patreon I would pay for the additional detail akin to a ebook or guide.
His video is extremely detailed. Stop bringing un-necessary critics.
Start doing this porject THEN you will realise how much more you need to know and find out by yourself as well..
It is easy to tell someone how not to do somenthing and harder to do yourself!
How did you do the coding?
Hello Cole, on the E9x the steering wheel heating is not controlled by any module so coding is not necessary. However if you really want to make it 100% OE, just add VO (vehicle order) "$248" to CAS and NFRM/FRM so that's all.
On F-series and so on, coding is required but I don't have the experience so far 🤗 thank you for the question!
