Yes Mahabharata is a history and absolutely real because even the King Subrai Trilochan (believed to be an avatar of Shiva) of our state had participated in Kurukshetra battle in Pandava's team and also Yudhisthir had presented a throne to Subrai Trilochan which is still present in our State Museum.

महाभारत सच्ची घटना कहा है इसका एक ही उदहारण काफी है अगर कोई कहानी होती है तो उस कहानी में केवल ज्यादा से ज्यादा 10 से 15 किरदारों को वर्णन होता है जैसे किसी फिल्म में हीरो होता है तो उसमे सिर्फ हीरो के परिवार का वर्णन होता है ना कि उसके रिश्तेदारो का न उसके कुल का ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि वो सिर्फ एक कहानी है लेकिन महाभारत में ऐसा नही है उसमें उस वक़्त की सभी जनपदों यह तक कि उनके राजाओ उनकी पत्नियों पुत्रो उनके विवाहों तथा उनके कुलो का तक वर्णन है अगर यह कहानी होती तो कुछ ही किरदारों के इर्द गिर्द घूमती

mahabharat was fought 5000 - 7000 years ago and if you dont know than i may tell you that after 36 years of mahabharat due to gandhari's curse dwarka sank . And the son of abhimanyu and uttara , parakshit was still alive and ruled the kingdom . Parikshit was a nice ruler and until and unless parakshit died kaliyuga cannot start . parikshit died after hundreds of years after mahabharat and kaliyuga planned against him . then only Kaliyuga started . So we can say that mahabharat was true . you should research in depth , as it is history not a story .

There might be some sort of natural calamities due to which we are unknown about many facts of it .
Like Harrapa too existed many years ago.
But due to natural calamities we are unknown of that , but we can't argue on its existence.
According to me the change in yug brought some natural calamities due to which we got unaware of many of the facts about the people in previous yug.
Also there is a description about Lord Hanuman in Mahabhart in Arjun's Ratha and in breaking Bhima's pride on his muscle strength and we know that Hanuman chalisa tells about the distance between sun and earth .
This is why Mahabharat existed.

Yes, there's a place in Alwar district of Rajasthan in jungles of Sariska where idol of Lord Hanuman is laying in the path (today a very huge temple). As you said to break the Bhim's pride (yes actually it is). And there is a so huge hole in the upper part of the mountain that was made by Bhim during their Agyatwasa (13th year of roaming jn jungles)
Visited there few months ago.
There is also a place near Jaipur ,Viratnagar (Matasya nagari of the Mahabharata era), many inscriptions related to Mahabharata and Samrat Ashoka were found there. Now we can see them in museums here with their years mentioned.
