not entirely through the video yet, but when you said an important skill is to sit down to do work and stuff... another one that is SO important for longtime projects with ADHD is to recognize ADHD burnout before it fully hits. sometimes you get bored just because you get bored. but other times it might be a sign you're overwhelming yourself, even if the task is seemingly "not a big deal"

I find three projects to be a good balance for me! I have the one I’m really focused on, my comic idea. Then my slower-going project that already had a ton planned/written but needs to be rewritten. And then I have one in very early stages that I poke at for fun when I’m bored with my main two. It’s been working well for me.

"Click the like button and then unclick it and then click it again because idk it'll be fun!"
    *clicks like button*
    *clicks it again*
ADHD shenanigans ensue. Does not re-click the like button.
^I wonder if this happened to anyone LOL

For me, for regards to writing, I think outlining is super important but the kicker is instead of trying to create a road map for everything, I focus on key points, the core/heart of a story.
Premise, the protagonist and antagonist, conflict with cause/effect pathways, and then the ending or new resolution.
In my mind, a story is like starting a puzzle, where there's a million pieces of abunch of other puzzles crammed into a single box. I think in scenes. The patterns in the pieces aren't anything new and they're limited to only a few sizes but it's how they come together, how a group of them gives coherence to a bigger picture.
But sometimes those pieces are blank, or they fit but don't quite match the others around it. This is where I'll have to explore and experiment. But I'll always have those core puzzle pieces to give me a sense of order.
Whenever I get frustrated or stuck, I walk away for a bit--knowing the piece exists I just haven't found it or colored it yet.

I'm new to comics and as I try to both write and draw my first one the big problem I've faced in this is dealing with ideas. I'm not diagnosed but I do believe I have ADD because my brain thinks aaaalll the time and new ideas come every minute. The choice here is to either think them and let them go or write them down and make them happen. Unfortunately I've mostly done the first one which led me to something I now call "creative constipation" - the new ideas are there but the old ones didn't come out yet, so it hurts to think about the project, because you now have to decide which one to choose first.
So to add to your advice - "if you think about it long enough then write it down - if it's bad you'll throw it away later, but if it's good and you didn't, then you'll most likely just forget it".

I see the logic in the advice given but for someone like me who can't walk to his kitchen without forgetting what he was doing there, I'm sure I've forgotten many interesting ideas and twists to my work. At this point whenever I think of something I have to stop what I'm doing and just jot it down.
I recommend jotting down everything but try to be general with it. I have notes for certain stories but also just story notes where I put thoughts that either don't fit into the story I'm working on at the moment or just can't be added to the story cause it's full or would be too much effort to add.

You're absoultely right! Writting down ideas shouldn't take long. To be fair I'm glad I didn't use some of my early bits because now they just don't go well with what I try to do now. And some ideas will be forgoten either way which is okay, just means they don't worth it. But at least if you write them down from time to time you can review your thinking progress to return to certain points later and question them.

This made me lol a couple times. I am you. I have self-published books but am currently stuck in the writing stage on all of them and I've been treading water for over 10 years? sigh...

Time passes by way too fast. I was convinced for many years that I'm just having in art block ( whatever that means ) when in reality I needed to learn how my brain works and deals with creative productivity.

Your comment resonated. 10 years is a short time to be treading water! I have been treading water for at least 30 years, interspersed with small successes that are precious few in number. I wrote a one act play and it sat in a drawer for twenty years! A friend told me about a local playwriting competition; I pulled it out of the drawer, where it has sat for two decades, and mailed it off. It won and was produced with a professional cast. This is NOT bragging, the timeframes involved horrify me.
