I was having the same hard drive issue on both my Mac Studio and Intel Mac Mini when I updated to the latest pro tools. I was prompted by PT to set my hard drive to “R” (which I think literally means record lol 😒) inside PT via the workspace (I think) to able to record to my drive. That solved it for me.

unrelated-but..... a few years ago I was working on a broadcast automation system where we replaced a VTR with a mini server, for tapeless delivery of commercials. the vendor promised us that the server would emulate a VTR in regard to its remote control protocol.... but being tapeless, when the automation tried to cue the clip in the server, the response was almost instantaneous- "I'm cued", which threw an exception in the automation because no VTR on earth ever cues instantly- it has to back up the tape to the right frame & that takes a finite time, often several seconds.
so..... maybe.... with the better buss speeds in the new mac, maybe protools is getting a 'write' acknowledgement back from the drive sooner than it is expecting.
just a thought. have yyou raised a ticket with PT?

I can explain your issues :
    1) the drive issue is a permission issue. You can fix it if you change the permissions of the main folder and folders underneath on your external drive to all users as read and write. Since external devices don’t work as a root folder permissions are necessary.
    2) Plugin loading in Pro Tools… You probably work in Rosetta Mode and that’s why you have this long loading times. If you would try a native DAW, you will not see any issues like that.
3)Mouse issue: put some paper in it since the battery issue is an old one… the new Magic Mouse would be the better solution… one charge is enough for a month and you don’t have connection issues at all.
    4) you can fix the fan „issue“ with an external tool and set the fan rpm to 1000-1100 without having issues under max load. You can use software like Macsfancontrol for it.

    • @prodby430

@@freaky425 probably because it is much faster then any Intel machine ?! Also the Pro Tools issue will be fixed as soon as Pro Tools release a native Apple silicon version. The write permission issue with the external device can be fixed in under 20 seconds. Aswell as the fan control story. I don’t regret switching to Apple silicon and I had the 28 core Mac Pro aswell so I can compare it quit good I would say. 90% of the VSTs are also Apple silicon native and I don’t have any issues working with Studio One.

Tip for the mouse problem: I used to have connectivity problems with my old Magic Mouse. It was a problem with the batteries having too much space in the battery compartment. A piece of paper folded a few times wrapped around the batteries resulted in a lot less connectivity problems for me.

ProTools is definitely janky running on M1 because it's in Rosetta. Some plugins, won't work properly at all (e.g. Acustica). Who knows when Avid will get their sh*t together... they're already way behind by not being M1 native and I don't even know if it will happen this year, all this for the annual price of having access to updates, but not this, the most important thing they should be focusing on.

Wasn't Rosetta supposed to work seamlessly? I would blame Apple for this, as not every developer can keep up with major breaking changes in the OS every year. For example, some controllers that require drivers still use the same driver for Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11 (that's 10 years of compatibility!), meanwhile on MacOS it needs 4 different versions for Mojave/Catalina/Big Sur/Monterey. Yes, Apple changed the processor architecture, but it is their job to ease the transition while 3rd party developers catch up.

    • @seancca
      @seancca 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@lumer2b It does work seamlessly but there can still be some randomness from the program itself. Apple also did make it very easy for developers to migrate over. Many moved pretty quick, some took longer, like Ableton just became M1 native earlier this year. They have for sure made it easy for developers. What controllers are you talking about? If it is usb class compliant there is not driver at all.

    • @lumer2b
      @lumer2b 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@seancca Roland synths aren't class compliant and need drivers, one new driver every year for MacOS, same driver forever for Windows. Yamaha needs driver for full functionality, same thing. Class compliant devices were even worse: Native Instruments Traktor DJ could get the hardware damaged by just connecting to a Big Sur machine (M1 or not) back when Big Sur was released, and Komplete Audio interfaces misbehaved. They are all class-compliant and the problem took a few months before Apple fixed it. Some docks could brick MacBooks because of a macOS bug. Apple keeps pushing a new version every year and releases a product that is not even pre-beta quality and has all kind of issues with software that worked fine before, that's not being developer friendly. I'm still running Catalina on my Mac, meanwhile Windows 10 which was supposed to be shit never had this kind of issues with my hardware.

    ⚠️ WARNING ABOUT MAC STUDIO
There are more then a couple problems. I own a Mac Studio and 64 gig ram system. It is full of bugs for music software, including video editing. It has turned into an absolute nightmare on various levels. Play back glitching and Looping when it’s not supposed to be Looping. System crashes that are never ending. Despite I have sent seven or eight system crashes now to Apple nothing has ever been resolved why my system keeps crashing. They’ve had a half a year to resolve this issue‼️
And the processor is easily overloaded once you start adding video software such as final cut pro. Even when you start a brand new music project that’s only one track, I get a message saying that the internal SSD is too slow. I receive that message frequently as it’s a real headache because then you’re music software no longer works. You have to close and reboot and hope for the best.
I use my Mac Studio about 50 to 70 hours a week. Had anyone done a genuine review of the problems that I have listed which are far more than listed here, as I actually use the Mac Studio nearly every day… I would’ve never bought one.
DO NOT BUY A MAC STUDIO UNTIL THE NEXT GENERATION COMES OUT IN EARLY 2023? I will be selling my current first generation when the next one comes out. Again do not buy this if you’re going to be using it for professional projects. Mac Studio cannot handle professional use. The problem is so bad that twin processors would never resolve all these issues.
DO NOT BUY A MAC STUDIO UNTIL THE NEXT GENERATION‼️
    Consider yourself warned.

    @HappySnappyChappy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

For a VERY expensive bit of kit the Mac Studio is disappointing. I totally agree - the mouse charge port on the bottom is like having your fuel cap inside your exhaust pipe.
Video connector is so close to the USB cables I find I can't help but accidentally dislodge it when I'm pulling cables. Mouse connectivity is irritating - why Apple? WHY???
I see now why the call it the "Magic Mouse" - because it keeps disappearing!!!. :o(
Gotta be very careful to 'eject' any memory devices, like direct connect to my camera or when I take the chip and insert it directly to the Mac - it is just invisible - took me ages to figure you have to 'eject' it every time and then probably use Disk Utilities to "re-mount" it - and perhaps use the First Aid option first to access it at all. Then I had to rename the camera memory chip to avoid confusion with some volume called "untitled" that turned out to be what I think was the Mac's internal hard drive - which caused major confusion and darn nearly got itself erased in an attempt to get rid of the ghost.
I dunno what mac does to my android phone, but I had a heck of a job getting it to work normally on my PC after plugging it into the mac and then having to use Android File Transfer, though I realised years ago Apple wants to lock you in to their proprietary systems, like iPhone and hates talking to android devices. (They're only filing systems, for pity's sake) The more I notice this the less inclined I am to line Apple's bank accounts. I'd actually be more inclined to buy more apple products if they'd let me migrate progressively out of choice - not because I'm being extorted.
Admittedly, I am switching back to Mac after a long break, but it is an infuriating system after Windows. (truth be told they BOTH irritate me)
Take, for example, trying to sift out several sorts of files (from my insta 360 camera) there are jpgs and raw and insta's own standards but Mac seems to think if I want these sorted by 'type' that I am expecting to find that any picture is the same as any other - that's not what I wanted, so I had to use some control feature to sort by 'kind' ... even then it had like 2,000 files mixed up - luckily I realised there was a massive size difference, so I sorted by size and was able to separate the ones I wanted that way. For pete's sake - I can do this from DOS on a PC with "Dir *.jpg"
What I really miss is the simplicity of the bare filing system in Windows (or DOS / Command line) instead of having the bottleneck of having to go through iTunes and use 'Photos' to import videos from my iPad. or this "Synchronise" thing that I just don't want at all. I just don't work that way at all. Most of my tasks are unique and simply involve copying a batch of files - I'm not updating my music or calendar across several devices.
Also the constant pressure to sign up for iCloud is getting on my nerves. I don't actually do my computing on the move - so I don't need web storage (at a fee) I have a stack of external drives and anyway you can get a terrabyte or more on a memory chip these days - so why pay and have the bottleneck of uploading and downloading files that, potentially, could be hacked. I don't want my data all over the planet. Furthermore we 'normal' humans might not have unlimited broadband on tap, due to budget or living in the sticks - so it is not like being based in Apple HQ and treating the cloud as if it was bolted onto the back of your phone, ipad and mac. Anyways, I have free cloud storage already and rarely ever use it.
Then, because I bought an Apple they gave me 3 months Apple TV for Free... okay, I don't watch TV at all, (I don't even have a TV Licence) but I might have tried it - until I realised they want my Apple ID or Credit card to pay for something that is "free" - umm.. no thanks Apple.
I used to like Apple for loads of reasons and I go right back to the 6502-based Apple ][europlus - pre Lisa, pre Macintosh.. .but I don't know what drugs these computer designers are on these days - they've lost the plot.
Honestly? had I thought of it two days earlier I seriously was making enquiries about returning the system to get my money back. I've lost hours and hours researching to find "work-arounds" for simple, simple basic every day tasks.
Annoyingly I bought the Final Cut Pro licence when I purchased the Mac and I also used up my one remaining licence for Camtasia to migrate to my new Mac - so by the time I had sourced a few extra software tools there is a considerable investment I'd hate to lose by getting rid of it. I don't think I could live with the decision to lose hundreds of pounds by re-selling it so early, but it came down to a close call. I'm going to give it a bit longer - but I'm not happy.
Sure, it is powerful and fast - I'm already finding a 7x difference from my old i7 PC for doing photo & video processing and I love that, but day to day housekeeping is SO incredibly awkward it is extremely frustrating. Just about everything I try - it fights me. I spent more time trying to outwit it than I do getting on with my work. Thankfully, I'm retired now - or it would have gone through the window long ago, but what a massive cock up. I really do regret buying one now. I don't trust it any more and am compiling a growing list of little hacks and work-arounds. Its nuts.
Get a Time & Motion expert in amongst it and sort your lives out.
Oh yeah and only 2 remaining Apple stores in Scotland - bad news. That was nearly a show stopper for me.

I purchased the apple Mac Studio M1 last summer and since the Sonoma updates I have had nothing but trouble in pro tools studio. Now following the latest pro tools update I am unable to record anything without it crashing on me telling me I’ve run out of CPU power. It’s so frustrating because my recording has ground to a halt. You mentioned the external drive I was wondering if I should unplug it when recording? I notice that the computer is storing songs weird. By default it stored to documents and another strange thing is that it is storing some bass guitar waveform parts for instance outside the folder for the song it should be in. I’m new to a Mac. I assumed that switching to a Mac would solve all my problems but I was wrong I’m back to square one! I have done everything from backing up my mixes to deleting the things I’m not working on and emptying my bin but to no avail. Depressed and frustrated 😭

First off : i am a mac book pro 15 inch mid 2014 owner and an Iphone XR owner and i love them ! BUT :
Apple needs to be taught a lesson and that lesson needs to be taught soon !!!
People need to stop buying demonic Apple products for 1 year or maybe 2. Straight , no macs , iphones , heck , no adapters nothing!!!!
    Let me Explain :
i love using logic pro BUT!!! they soldered the SSD onto the motherboard ever since 2016. I recently went to an apple certified repair shop and asked them : what if i get an m1pro macbook pro and as soon as the warranty expires , the ssd fails me . How do u go about repairing it ? They said it’ll cost me a hefty sum cause they replace the whole board. I was like WhAT? Like dayum, replace 5-6-7 parts just cause one don’t work , there ain’t nuthin logical about that . Another point is : on windows : 1tb ssd --> roughly 110$/€ . 2 tb --> roughly 2x 110 $/€ . @demonic-apple --> 2tb costs 800$ …?!?! What ? And you can t even replace it. I have a dream : :” that for a few years, straight up nobody buys any apple products , not even an adapter . Let s see those execs shit their pants and start asking questions like : “FUCK?!?!?… what are we doing wrong? We used to make all those profits and now nothing ? I don’t understand. It’s fucking marketing , i knew those idiots would fuck it up …..” To me they seem like money hungry apes that can not quench their thirst for money . It walks along the lines of unethical . There s isn’t even any real advantage to having the ssd soldered. I ve heard people say that it s faster . No it s not . We have the internet . Anybody can check the numbers and the speeds of different ssd s out there. Oh and just to put the cherry on top : iphone 13 : amazing processor and hardware but it s rocking the lightning port 🤣 usb 2.0 speeds . Apple 🍎 i really hope u get yours and the EU puts you in place with regulations on ports and on right to repair . They got hundreds of billions offshore like liquidities …. This got outta pocket a long time ago … out of their consumers pockets to be exact. They answer to no one and lack moral discernment . Take care y’all 😃🙏🏻🤗. But the processors are amazing and I respect the integration of the cpu and gpu and RAM 🐏 . Cause that actually wields a big boost in performance. I hope somebody serves them good .. money hungry apes 🦧. And now they updated the look of the macbook air but haven’t done so for the the macbook pro 13 inch . If i buy the pro 13 inch i get the same old ass design … but the new chip … what ?! 😅😅 whass wrong with them ? They have such twisted marketing strategies to milk their consumers of money as much as possible . They did the same thing with iphones too. While others bring new design to the table , Apple holds on to the same design , probably because they don t want to invest the money yet. Eventho it s one of the few companies that has
And now they ship different iPhones with different chips. oh my God bruh... let's start this movement ... i m begging y'all let us all stop buying their products for 1-2-3-4 years :)))))) it would be amazing.

My Mac Studio is having a problem with left-click renaming. In Music, left click just plays the song rather than renaming it. I can get it to rename about 10% of the time. Sometimes I can’t even move the tracks. If I try it will just play. I also can’t rename folders on the desktop…I’ve tried multiple mice & in system settings I’ve tried every level of double-click mouse speed. I have no problems on my wife’s Mac Mini. We’re both using Ventura, though I believe she has a slightly earlier version. Also, many times I’ll click an area up top to arrange by: artist or genre & it won’t do anything. I’ll have to click it 8 times or so for it to follow the command.

What I've discovered on my Mac Studio is that the rear Thunderbolt/UBS ports are defective. They cause consistent drop out, freezes, crashes and more fun stuff. The front ports are All Good, but the rear ports are a disaster. And I need those ports to work perfectly. This is my first new Mac in many years (I have so so so many Macs but in the last few years Apple appeared to lose their way and I ended up building my own Hacks instead to great effect), but have been wanting a reason to move back to their hardware - and the M chip was it. Unfortunately, after many dozens hours of tests and searches, I've concluded this is a very common issue, not likely related to software and despite how much I want to love it and boy do I ever love the M chip and GPU engines, my Studio is ...well much more a Lemon than an Apple.

Try the new Magic Mouse. Using all day, battery lasts about a month. If you run out of battery, you can charge it for a couple minutes and go for another hour. Maybe completely charges in an hour. The old one like you have, it used to feel like the batteries were always going dead. Also the pairing, plug it into the usb cable and it's paired. Want to use it on another Mac, same thing and it only takes a couple seconds.

Hey pal. I believe the plug-in issue is strictly PT related as I started having the same issues since upgrading to the newest version. Lag when loading up the first instance of a plug-in and then PA console strip plugins trigger the compression metering in PT without actually doing anything. Same issues with the mouse as I was using a v1 Magic Mouse. The Bluetooth in those older units just go downhill. Same thing happened to my v1 Magic Trackpad and I had to replace that.

I switched to a Logitech MX Master 3 mouse on my M1. Includes a horizontal scroll wheel as well as the good old vertical scroll. You can also program for example a few favo shortcuts, and assign them to one of the buttons. Best feature i like actually is the thumb-rest, which i didnt see coming to be honest. Not dragging your thumb over the desk does make a difference, really. Might want to give it a try. Oh and it is rechargeable with a usb-c cord, while you still continue to use it. The only downside i found is to use it with another machine (you can switch between 3 macs for example) you need to press the button on the - drum roll - bottom. Duh! But if you're not a frequent switcher, you should be fine.

I’ve been using an MX Master 3 for 3-4 years now (previously using MX Master 2) and took delivery of a Studio Max a few weeks ago (Trashcan MacPro previously). No mouse issues that I can see and I use it 10+ hours a day. The Studio has a few minor quirks that I’m sure will be rectified once Adobe and Apple get in sync. After waking the Studio from sleep mode, my Adobe programs will have the tops of the windows in the center of the screen and it’s tool panels splashed across my second monitor. I don’t know if that is a Studio thing or just an M-chip thing but it’s only the Adobe programs. Also having fun tuning in the sleep/wake settings.

It isnt the studio with the old magic mouse. My sons iMac is a few years old and his gen one magic mouse kicks out a lot. Try it again and watch, happens when batteries are below about 60%.

Hey colt. Sorry you’re having problems. The beach all issue is not an issue. It’s Rosetta converting the app file/session into a format that the m1(whichever model you have) chip can read that’s normal. Especially for protools since the last time they updated their code base was when dinosaurs walked the earth. The hard drive issue is a protools issue not a max studio issue. Open disk utility and check the format of the drive it may be a format that protools doesn’t like but it’s definitely not a Mac issue. As far as the mouse goes it’s too old so the firmware and the chip doesn’t support the m1 architecture. I understand how the new design may appear to be inconvenient here is my suggestion. Charge the mouse at the end of the day when you’re done working. This makes the position of the mouse irrelevant and it will last for your workday. You’re a supertaleted dude don’t waste brain power or time on something so trivial. You got grammy award winning music to make. As far as the fan the Mac studio fan really isn’t a big deal. A lot of professionals will often have a machine room or closet that they put their computers and some rpm drives in to completely eliminate the issue and just have a hub in the studio at the desk for connecting drives and such. Finally, I would highly recommend in the future to slip your studio and video workflow into two machines. Just a suggestion. I would love to help answer any other mac questions you have free of charge. Hit me up in the comments.

Right. I would say, too, that it is Rosetta translating the new tool.. because it’s only on the first runs.. that’s typically Rosetta and nix bug. Concerning the Bluetooth - since Inuse Mac they are having BT and Wi-Fi Problems. And they never worked it out. Well, they seem to like it better to develop new not working system so every year than fixing bugs on the old OS… it was better with OS X, cause that developed over a long time. But since Big Sur my BT Problems show an increase again… and I am using a new mouse from Apple…

Great video. I know you use only Pro Tools (me2),but maybe you can try another DAW to see if you continue to same the same issues.

Be careful - I have been using the same SanDisk drives - The 2 gb version went hard black out of the blue. And it's not just me.

A lot of people seem to "hate" the magic mouse in general. I loved it since i first start using it! I have the second gen for awhile now. I'm happy with it.
I have the Logitech MX Master 2 but it doesn't quite work for me. I don't know but i love the ease of use with the Magic Mouse. Also, for the charging, i mostly let it charge at night. It charges incredibly fast! It is absolutely stupid to have such a design that prevents you from using it while charging though. But if you are like me and you charge it over night, it doesn't really give much problems. Another option would be to buy a second one. So that you always have one charged and one in use...
I think the Mac Studio is a great machine. But i'm still happy i made the purchase i did around 2-3 ago when i bought the 2019 Mac Pro. I have zero regrets. It's quiet, reliable, i have 96GB of RAM with 8TB and a 16-core CPU. Only thing lacking is my GPU which is only the AMD W5700XT with 16GB.
The weird little quirky things that happen with the Mac Studio is one of the reasons why i don't want it right now. Though i must say, i work with Logic Pro X. So it might work a little better because its software from Apple. I don't know. Anyway, since the second gen of M1 has been revealed, i assume it won't be too long before we finally see that new Mac Pro as well. I'm pretty curious though i am completely fine with my Mac Pro for now.

In my opinion, the best mouse for creative works, design, music, is the Logitect MX Master 3.

I have Mac Studio. MIDI sounds are disappearing. The same issue occurs in Logic Pro X. There are no problems with regular WAV files, but the sounds in the MIDI channels are disappearing on their own. I initially thought the problem was related to Logic Pro X, but I was mistaken because the sounds also disappear when playing MIDI with Native Instruments Kontakt. Are there any friends experiencing this issue? I haven't been able to find a solution at all. My work is always left unfinished, and I've been struggling with this problem for almost a year.

I use the giant external Apple trackpad. Once you get used to multi-finger gestures, you'll never go back to using a mouse.

    6:33 really? You lucky Guy
On my Mac Studio (M1 Max 64GB RAM | PT 2022.5) the import takes much longer than on my old iMac (Mid 2011 | i7 16GB RAM | PT 11 | OSX 10.10). Depending on the number of audio files to be imported, it can take up to five minutes or more for the Beachball Of Horror to even start the import process.
There really isn't anything related to PT where my Mac Studio runs faster than the iMac.
But there are a lot of other problems with my Mac Studio. 🤯And the Apple Support has unfortunately not been able to fix the problems so far ...
On the other hand, the fan on my Mac Studio is barely audible. The computer is right in front of me, in a drawer on my desk. That's enough to eliminate the rest of the noise.

    1) The battery, on a full charge, will last several weeks. The Magic Mouse is the only mouse I use with my M1 iMac, and I consistently get anywhere from 6-8 weeks on a full charge. That's using the mouse 40-50 hours each week for work, plus other fun activities
STOP Stop complaining that you are charging it from the bottom!
My Ericsson t28 with large battery had standby 28 days, today we charge the phone every day! Complain THAT!
    2) I have 3 different model of SanDisk that don't work!!! in WINDOWS!!! SanDisk is not so good!

I have one of those SanDisk drives and it's definitely an M1 with thunderbolt issue for me. Not with USB-c though. Works fine. It's the thunderbolt-ness which was the problem for me. Works on an M1 Mac Mini just fine with usb-c. Works on a MBP with USB-C, but thunderbolt there are apps which won't record or write to it.... including... sigh... time machine. Really? I have to say it's the drive. A new Lacie and another smaller G-Tech works fine.

Why would you even begin to assume that it’s your Mac Studio… It’s your crappy hard drives! My OWC ssd drives work perfectly in any program. I’ve had my Mac Studio ultra for three weeks now and I’m on it every single day and it’s been absolutely flawless. That includes logic pro 10, blackmagic Resolve with 6K footage, Photoshop,, and after effects.

To fix the Magic mouse problem you can factory reset it by turning it off --> then holding down a click --> continue to hold click while powering the mouse on ---> continue holding click for ten seconds until green light flashes on mouse. Factory reset complete

Updating from Big Sur to Monterey I had issues with my Sandisk 2tb SSD drive on a maxed out 2019 MacBook Pro! Switched to a Samsung T7 and I’ve been good since then! All of my other brands of external drives work with Monterey! Definitely a Sandisk issue!!

Yep old plugins will do that! If you just search on plugin to see if they're at least universal yet! Plus you give the impression you don't seem to understand file formats and the state of this formats! On Mac system sense the release of the M1 A0pple made a new format of AFS=Mac only format for SSDs ON:LY! NTFS is Microsoft format and they keep it for themselves! HFS+ is old style they still use for traditional hard drives! Pls sense NTFS Apple machines can only read but not write to NTFS formats!

I have M1 and pretty happy with it. I did wait a bit and never only used it without Rosetta. I pretty much don't understand why anyone would switch to apple silicon and rely on Rosetta. If you use one ore two applications professional and they work properly it would be ok for a while. But having 1000 plugins and more stuff going on (UAD-2, EUCON, DIRAC) that would not be an option. Yes I cannot use a few plugins (yet) but most is working fine with our Rosetta and I don't care anymore for companies not getting the job done after one year. Native Instruments is one who set the bar as low as it works with rosetta job well done...... No way I wil not use Rosetta and until now I'm very happy no problems at all I have same Samsung drives one 2TB and the 4TB working fine too.
