- "The Rising of the Moon" is an Irish ballad recounting a battle between the United Irishmen, led by Wolfe Tone, against British forces during the Irish Rebellion of 1798.
Lyrics:
Oh then, tell me Seán O'Farrell, tell me why you hurry so?
"Hush a bhuachaill, hush and listen", and his cheeks were all aglow,
"I bear orders from the captain:- get you ready quick and soon
For the pikes must be together by the rising of the moon"
By the rising of the moon, by the rising of the moon,
For the pikes must be together by the rising of the moon
"And come tell me Seán O'Farrell where the gath'rin is to be?"
"In the old spot by the river, right well known to you and me.
One more word for signal token:- whistle out the marchin' tune,
With your pike upon your shoulder, by the rising of the moon."
By the rising of the moon, by the rising of the moon
With your pike upon your shoulder, by the rising of the moon.
Out from many a mud wall cabin eyes were watching through the night,
Many a manly chest was throbbing, for the blessed morning light.
Murmurs ran along the valleys like the banshee's lonely croon
And a thousand pikes were flashing at the rising of the moon.
At the rising of the moon, at the rising of the moon.
And a thousand pikes were flashing by the rising of the moon.
There beside the singing river that black mass of men was seen,
High above their shining weapons flew their own beloved green.
"Death to every foe and traitor! Forward strike the marching tune."
And hurrah my boys for freedom; 'tis the rising of the moon".
Tis the rising of the moon, tis the rising of the moon
And hurrah my boys for freedom; 'Tis the rising of the moon".
Well they fought for poor old Ireland, and full bitter was their fate,
Oh what glorious pride and sorrow, fills the name of ninety-eight!
Yet, thank God, e'en still are beating hearts in manhood burning noon,
Who would follow in their footsteps, at the risin' of the moon
At the rising of the moon, At the rising of the moon
Who would follow in their footsteps, at the risin' of the moon. - เพลง

Having wandered all over the beautiful country and seen the areas where rebels were buried in unmarked mass graves in the rising of 1798 this brings tears to my eyes and pride to my heart. Men with no military training standing up to and fighting highly trained british troops with pikes and clubs. Doomed to fail but for generations after REMEMBER THE MEN OF 98 must have inspired every rebel. Now we rule ourselves and just need unity with the north.God bless Ireland 🇮🇪
Unity with the Northern people will happen when the protestants know they can feel safe in the arrangement after all it is the meaning of the flag
Respectfully from the USA…does the Republic rule itself? The Celtic Tiger roared in the 90s but the EU seems to be recolonizing Ireland with forced Muslim migration. My grandparents were from Ireland and I doubt they’d recognize it. 🇺🇸🦅🇮🇪
Americans fought with rifles. Britain lost.
Thank you Ireland for give us one of your bravest sons 🇦🇷🇮🇪
God bless Ireland. May Ireland find the destiny she so richly deserves.

My Irish relatives gave up on the British sense of justice.
They moved to America, 1805.
Great song, my Da taught this to me as a child..
Ireland needs these men now to save it from the politicians who have betrayed them with influxes of migrants .
If ever there was a time to sing this song it is now.
The echo throughout IRELAND……..
THE RISING OF THE MOON . IRELAND WILL NEVER DIE….
You get those migrants and teach them Irish history so they become proud and thankful for a chance to live in Ireland. Polish immigrant here who lived in Waterford for 10 years and in the meantime learned your history, seen sacred places where your heroes died, learned mandolin, bouzouki, jigs and reels, played and sang rebel songs in pubs while working full time day job. So I'm telling you honestly you could be proud of most of migrants if you just help them to socialise and blend into irish culture.
@@kamilfiryn im not sure how many poles have murdered women and children over there
I'm Irish american it sucks being on the sideline
@@kamilfiryn I think the person is referencing those Muslims that are invading, refusing to conform, and wanting to take over to create Shariah Law, just like they are doing in every other country they're invading.
@@kamilfirynsome are not here to assimilate they are here to change Ireland to their ways that’s what he is talking about
My dad was a musician, and always said the Irish had great musicality. Im English (sorry) and do enjoy English folk, but will definitely admit Irish traditional music is superior. Perhaps it is the passion and spirit behind their quest for freedom that produced great songs.
I agree
Excellent upload. Thank you. People always neglect the historical importance of music.
As I start to make an edit of this song with the exact same version of said song we get this. Bro idk how much coincidences happened this week
But yeah anyways wonderful job lad!
Ireland for the Irish
Happy Saint Patrick's Day ☘️
Happy Saint Patricks today to a 32 county socialist republic!
This song of Seán O'Farrell's pike against the Brown Bess Musket is certainly stirring and well played and sung. Indeed, "full bitter was their fate."
Decades ago I was at Vinegar Hill outside of Enniscorthy, Ireland and had related to me the tragedy that occurred there when pikes went against muskets and untrained Irishmen went against perhaps the world's best disciplined and drilled and superbly armed professional soldiers. Even to this day, the ideals of the United Irishmen of 1798 haven't been entirely realized, but Ireland has certainly come a long, long way.
God bless my Irish For father's
Great song!
I see a thousand pikes flashing every day
Singing sirens and our magical Harp
First time I heard this was in the movie Farewell to The King.
😊 great song ! Hurray to the Irishman ❤
I recommend The Year of the French by Thomas Flanagan for a wonderfully written "fiction" account of this period of Irish history.
In my ancestors and family today we even stayed during the famine and the clans and blood runs through eire.

I think I've heard this as a US civil war song, "the army of the free"
There is also a confederate tune which is where I first heard it. The Wearing of the Gray.
@@wilsonclark9009 theres also wearing of the green!! scotland da brave and some song that had the lyrics "me father he was orange and me mother she was green"
Who’s the group singing this version? Can’t find them for the life of me
I actually dont know I dowloaded someone elses verision and am desperate find it. 🤣
It’s a group called Na Casaidigh
@@paddyultach3154 Na Casaidigh is The Cassidys in English. The group consists of six brothers who were born in the Donegal Gaeltacht and whose first language was Irish.
The ultimate rebel song.❤🇦🇺❤️🇮🇪😁
❤❤❤
Who is the band of this ballad?
Doblners I beleave. I could have spelled it wrong
Which band did this?
Mildly interesting fact: this song uses the same melody as ‘19 Men’ and ‘Reverend Ian Paisley’
And the orange and the green, the wearing of the green, and the civil war tunes: army of the free and wearing of the grey
@@pintoffanta2510Dont tread on me. 😉
Was it a good one or?
They got their independence in 1921 so I’m guessing this one didn’t go to plan
The 1798 Rebellion ended in failure
Ehh this was the last riseing when the north and south were together for freedom and total control protestants Catholics and Presbyterians

Irish!!!….Brits out
So do you not like the Scots and the Welsh?
Where are the brave of Ireland? Was it for this the wild geese spread the grey wing upon every tide? For this that all the blood was shed? For this Edward Fitzgerald died? And Robert Emmet and Wolf Tone? All that delirium of the brave?
Yes how quickly some have forgotten their history and what was done to their kin from the British and from the Barbers and now from the EU
