i just would appreciate it if there was a season two but we have all heard this too many times. RIP to Chaka and goat's voice actors they were my favorites... after fruity
i would never wish for a second season especially with how disappointing every single reboot has been, but i hope someday they do a comic or graphic novel for the show and continue where they left off. it really is a gem of show and i’m happy more people are starting to see this.
downtown is such a gem, everything from the visuals to the soundtrack was so unique and ahead of its time, it’s unfortunate that it was so short lived! this was an awesome video!
It was art, soul and passion Just how many shoes were back in the day. Today's shows barely manage that in extreme single digit rare quantitaties :( - everything today is so fake and bullshity it's shocking to me, I'm no boomer yet but, many of them are just awful or mediocre (and I see that kind of mediocrity bad given how far we have come) Nothong feels believable anymore. Downtown felt real, felt like it was just telling stories how they actually happened.
After hesitating for two years, I'm really glad I finally decided to give this show a chance. It's incredibly good, and what I love the most is how authentic everything feels. It truly captures the experience of living as a teenager or even as an adult in New York. Beyond that, the clever and sometimes satirical humor, combined with relatable characters, just brings everything together perfectly. Great video!!
Yeah imo revivals of 90s/old shows just dont work, it's either too long since or that it just doesnt live up to the hype. But still wish it had another season before it got canceled.
Loved everything about this show. Just something about growing up in the early 2000s that really makes me happy. Listening to Hybrid Theory, skateboarding and tagging with my friends while watching shows like Downtown, Daria, King of The Hill and Mission Hill after school was really something.
As someone who grew up in the UK, another thing that may go unnoticed is the use of jungle (breakbeats) in some episode music like in 13. It was very popular in the 90s/2000s especially in the UK and this makes the show a perfect time capsule of 1999. As someone who loves the music genre, it was on of the first things I noticed about the show and made me want to watch more
For those asking for a season 2, given how every IP gets ruined and injected with the dumpster fire of modern nonsense, it would absolutely suck, you wouldn't be able to capture the vibe, New York isn't like that any more, people aren't like that any more
i think it's heartwarming to note that Goat is still honored even after his passing. In Motorcity, a production by Titmouse (Chris Prynoski's studio) and Disney, the protagonist is mentored by a man named Jacob, who resembles Goat's characters in appearance and spirit.
I have absolutely NO idea how I missed this show when it originally aired! I was around the same age as the characters, still watched MTV, and was obsessed with the idea of living in the Village in NYC because of the musical RENT. So glad I finally discovered it. The dialogue is refreshing to listen to and it feels so “real” compared to a lot of scripted animation these days.
There was a DVD release, thats where the behind the scenes footage is from. I know because I bought one 8-9 years ago or so, still have it in my posession
I came across this show probably 10 years ago but it’s so sad that now that it’s getting popular again a lot of the actors had passed away so there’s no way we could ever fanboy enough to get another season
Hey 👋 uploader of the animatic here. Thanks for the correction. I downloaded the file from a downtown forum that was quite popular ~2000-2004. Thanks for all the work you’re putting into downtown.
Another thing I'd add is that some fans say there are some known stars today who did some voice acting for the show when they were starting out but I only know Pedro Pascal being one where his character's the one talking to chaka at the party. Other than that this video is awesome, thank you!! RIP to Leyora, Scot (GOAT), and his dog.
Wow, I thought this show was lost forever. I was only able to watch it once through back in the day and was never able to find even a torrent of it. Guess I have something to binge now.
This is such an incredible deep dive! Great job! 🔥 I was always under the impression Mecca was inspired by her voice actor, Aurora Lucia-Levey, as well, but I conveniently forget now where I got that information from. Btw, how did you view the official website? I've found it on the Wayback Machine (I'm not obsessed!) and listened to all the voice clips on the character page, EXCEPT Goat's because it gives me an error every time. He's my favorite character 😡
I really hope we get a time skip episode some day and see what everyone turned out to be I feel like since it’s been so long it just won’t be the same if it has a full in reboot.
Found this shows last month and maannn what a treasure this show is, tried to take my time but finished it too quick! 💯👏🏾✨ Thanks for this deep dive bro 🙌🏾
the amount of love i have for this show is insane. i love how you can find yourself in any other these characters and how majority of them aren’t 100% perfect. mecca is my fav🥺
I love this show. I’ve rewatched it countless times. It’s what led me to visit New York for the first time in 2021. I managed to get my hands on the DVD that same year and it is my prized possession. The interviews and artwork are so interesting, I wonder where the people they interviewed for the show are now?
amazing video man, keep it up. I found this show and it's become my latest fixation. I'm so happy to actually see people talking about it, and spreading info.
yooo, i think this is the show!! ive been looking at lostmedia dives for something but couldnt remember what channel or the name ... no cable as a kid, but i remember seeing it on vacation ... i would have been 10 or so and remember getting in trouble being caught watching
Oh man you have no idea how many times I've binge watch this series. I had the best time of my life watching it with my crush who really was a lot like Serena. And most of my friends were also like the characters you find in this supa cool anime.
I have been trying to find this show for 25 years, with only a few broken memories. Found and binged it this morning. Megas xlr is also awesome, and now I know why.
Gotta love the algorithm today omg, this was so nice to watch, rip to the voice actors 😢, and yes, downtown has forever engraved in my mind as the 90est cartoon show for adolescence/mature audience for me ever since i found it earlier this year, will have to checkout the art bts content later, thank you so much btw, its good to see new content about this gem of a show
Fun Fact! Goat later in life owns a junk yard in a little show known as Megas XLR. Literally it's the same character. Look it up if you don't believe me. Also another amazing show.
i feel like there is a chance of it’s returning, considering the return of Clone High. But then again, the passing of actors, current times, and the fact companies are probably itching to get the makers of Spider-Verse to write for them, lol
The interviewed woman looks just like Melody Henry, the owner of Lucky 13 Bar/Club in Brooklyn. Did anyone ever get a name on the interviewee? ETA: Holy schnikies, I found the interview. That WAS Melody Henry!!! She is an NYC legend. Go visit her bar in Gowanus, it's the best goth/punk/metal bar on the East Coast!!!
As a graff writer, the graffiti episode drew me in and just had to watch the whole series as the random situations and conversations the characters would find themselves in were just relatable in a way. Cool iceberg video
I really enjoyed the video but one small critique: if you could slow down the paper background effect that would be great! It’s super distracting when trying to read what’s on the screen

Hey there fellow New Yorker 👋 Glad you enjoyed the video!
how the fuck does someone "hesistate" to watch a show, moreso for 2 years?
We all know their probably wont be a season 2 but its for the best imo. I think this show is perfect the way it is.

So many potential classics were lost in the 2000’s for one reason an other. I grew up seeing all these come and go.
