Boerenkool is curly kale. In the netherlands boerenkoolstampot is a typical dutch dish. Cook 1 kg of potatoes with 500 grams finely chopped curly kale on top until the potatoes are done. Strain the water. Blob of butter and big slash of milk, salt and pepper and mash up. Serve with jus/gravy, smoked sausage (rookworst) and mustard.😋
Hi Sarah to answer your reply from my previous comment. It does not matter how much pruning you do on willows it's their root system that becomes a real nasty nuisance. I kept pruning my two willows and still their roots are enormous and so invasive. I cut both down recently but still working on getting rid of the roots because they do produce shoots. With a drill made holes in whats left of the trunks then I pour hot vinegar into the holes to kill it. This only took 3 summers to get that bad.
Sarah you truly are an inspiring! I love your allotment space and the kids space too. I have never been able to grow anything from seeds but after seeing what you have done I really want to try to have our own garden.

Forgot to mention in my previous comment I just cut down two 3 year old dappled willows. They turned out a nightmare as beautiful as they are. Their roots got massive and creeped into my neighbours gardens next door. They follow water sources and my poor neighbour waters his garden daily. I found out about it this summer when I saw him fighting to remove all these massive roots. Felt terrible. The more you trim the more it encourages their root system. A friend planted one 6 ft away from her cistern and roots damaged the foundation making it leak and expensive to repair. Our weather here in Canada is much colder not mild like yours so beware of that willow.
