      I just bought the 2022 g5422tg Orange. It's very similar looking but it's also the highest level of the mid-range Gretsch guitars. Check out the changes in the 2022 Gretsch g5422t and g5422tg line.

    Love what you guys are doing.
    You do a good job capturing the Gretsch vibe that draws so many players to this instrument.
    I’ve been a Gretsch player since 1977 when I bought my first Gretsch. It was a new USA made 1977 model 7660 Chet Atkins Nashville in cherry red. I still own that guitar. I also have a recent jet and I just bought a 140th anniversary double platinum Falcon. I really enjoy these Gretsch guitars and probably play them almost everyday. I also have some Gibson Les Paul’s, Fender strats and telecaster and numerous acoustic guitars but what they say is true,.. “Nothing else sounds like a Gretsch”
    Great job fellas, God bless.

    They sound dreamy. That sound evokes the human truism surrounding spiritual self, how we experience the metaphysical world. To the extent that world exists, it exists as a human perception. We get a taste of it in dreams, thoughtlessness, extreme joy or profound sadness, and occasionally through experiences like child birth, survival of life ending event, or drugs. That's what a gretsch sounds like and why p&w is a perfect match

    The Player's Edition Jets also have a rolled-off heel joint and lowered fret board height for easier upper fret access. Player Edition guitars also use different pickups across their line, many of which are not TV Jones, but proprietary to Gretsch themselves. As for the serial number, the first two numbers will indicate it's year of construction.
    A few other fun Gretsch facts:
    A few other players I'd consider as influential Gretsch players would be Billy Duffy, George Harrison, and Brian Setzer. Malcolm for a time actually used a White Falcon as well.
    Bradford, that leather backing on Country Gentlemens you're referring to are for string mutes.
    Gretsch, who was originally based out of Brooklyn, tried to be more 'Country and Western' with their aesthetic appointments, but proved their big city personality by putting that horseshoe on the headstock upside-down, which is technically a sign of bad luck. It drove a lot of people nuts, but the quirkiness more or less gave it charm, so it stuck around and was even reintroduced on the new '89 series.
    Gretsch got its big start as a drum company, which is why they are popular using the sparkle finishes- they were their drum shell colors. The first Duo Jets from the early 50's actually had plastic tops if I remember correctly.
    Gretsch is also responsible for the name 'Telecaster'. Fender wanted to call it the 'Broadcaster' in 1950, but ran into copyright infringement with Gretsch's 'Broadkaster'. They were then referred as the 'Nocaster' with nothing written on the headstock until 1952 when 'Telecaster' was chosen. Ironic then that Fender merged with Gretsch around 2003- which greatly improved their quality and consistency across the board.

    • @Wells306
      @Wells306 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattyk112 Yeah- that too. Buckle rash seems to be one of expected things now days to where I'm more surprised when I don't see it on guitars like the CG. I've heard how replacing them can be a pain. Easy control access is nice, but I'm glad it didn't catch on.

    If you don't have the privilege of owning a string-through Bigsby, invest $30 and get a Vibramate String Spoiler.
    Many Bigsby equipped guitars that have smaller bodies (Jets included) unfortunately have tuning issues that are a result of too sharp of a string break angle at the bridge. Many people have blamed the nut as the culprit, but this is often not the case. The solution I found is buying and installing a Brick's BiggsFix Tuning Stabilizer. I've had ZERO tuning problems ever since. They run around $60-$70 depending on your Bigsby type and are worth every penny.

      @antoniohillario9770 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 2655T which was impossible to keep in tune. I also put in a BricksBiggsFix Tuning Stabilizer bar.
      That didn't completely fixed the tuning issues.
      I also installed a roller bridge and a zero fret nut.
      It took all three to fix the problem, but the stabilizer had the most impact. It would have been good enough for most people, I just wanted it to be perfect and now it is.

    I bought a Gretsch G5420T Electromatic back in 2017 when they re-vamped them. Putting in a new wiring harness from 920D Custom and a set of TV Jones Classics totally transformed that guitar. I loved the TV Jones Classics so much that I dropped in a loaded pick guard with a set in my 2002 Fender American Standard Stratocaster. Filtertron style pickups are amazing.

    • @BrendanHegwood
      @BrendanHegwood 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing with my G5420. What 920D harness did you use?

    • @BillDutton
      @BillDutton 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrendanHegwood I used their GR-EL Custom Hollow Body with quick disconnects. I ordered the pickups directly from TV Jones. You can also order everything direct from TV Jones too. I highly recommend the harness installation kit. It takes a few hours but is not a difficult job...just fiddly since you're fishing out the old stuff and fishing in the new. Totally worth it and I would do it again in a heart beat.
      I cut the quick disconnects off since the pickups didn't come equipped with them.

    No doubt about it. I have a Brian Setzer signature and the clarity is awesome. And to add a little Bigsby wiggle at the end of a line is unmistakeable. I let our worship leader borrow it a few weeks while his tele was getting a setup... he wants a solid body so bad.

    I own a 2013 sunburst Double Anniversary G6117T-HT (Hilotron pups) made in Japan with a trestle bracing. I love ebony fingerboards. Rosewood, NATO etc not so much. So to my the feeling in my fingers makes all the difference in loving the Professional Series vs the Electromatic series. It's like driving a Mercedes S class vs a C series! The feel/ride is significant to me. I also own a made in China 5220 Jet and it is ok. The fret edges in the upper frets needed to be filed down. They were too sharp. Mine is a special run Azura blue! Just gorgeous!

    Besides the difference in the size of the bodies of the different models, I also feel that the difference in the distance of the bridge and the bigsby string attachment point make a slight difference in the sound of each guitar. Very nice guitars and definitely a praise and worship tool for any player to achieve the modern worship vibe for sure! Hope to own one myself one day. Nice review!

    It was like the HD-DVD vs BlueRay or VHS vs BetaMAX. Gretsch had the “Filtertron” where Guild had the HC-1 or “Hum Cancelling” series 1 and Gibson had the PAF “Humbucker”. Each was a hum canceling or hum filtering pickup but they were all trying to corner the market on the coolest name. Obviously Gibson won. But there’s no beating “That Great Gretsch Sound!”

    I added a Gretsch hollow body to my collection a couple months after a Nashville visit and trying one in a shop. Couldn't get it out my head.
    My other guitars barely get any attention since. It can handle massive gain, totally clean, or in between which is actually where it really shines.
    People really do listen with their eyes - I've had comments how great it sounds as I'm getting it out of the case LOL!

    Awesome video guys! Love Gretsch Guitars and your channel.
    I just wanted to clarify a few things:
    (This is to help anyone considering buying a Gretsch/ I’m not here to just be a troll)
    The falcon’s scale length is the same as the fenders but the duo jets aren’t the same as fenders. Duo jets have a 24.6” scale length.
    Just correcting Chris Rocha on the CGs:
    Country Gentleman have filertrons
    The Jr versions have BroadTrons. (They have a higher output vs Filtertrons) which is why he had to turn down the gain on his pedal.

    • @tawnstones7427
      @tawnstones7427 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And fender doesn’t own Gretsch 100%
      The Gretsch family still owns the company.. Fender takes care of the marketing, distribution, and manufacturing.
