Spotlight: ARTIST TALK with Jenny Carlsson Grip

Jenny Carsslon Grip’s work is part of the group show "IMPULSE" on view @galerie_thomas through October 21, 2023.
Born 1984 in Ronneby, Sweden, Jenny Carlsson Grip studied at Umeå Academy of Fine Arts in Sweden, receiving her MFA in 2013. Her work has been exhibited at Kalmar Art Museum, Umeå Art Museum, and at Malmö Konsthall, among others. She has been granted scholarships from, among others, the Swedish Art Grants Committee and the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and is recipient of the Åke Andrén Foundation Art Award.
Her visual worlds, which are possibly reminiscent of the painterly tradition of Per Kirkeby, express gestural power, immediacy and spontaneity. In addition to fingers and hands, brushes, palette knives and scrapers are among Carlsson Grip’s painting tools, which she uses to capture her raw and impetuous compositions.
