      Funny and tragic cardinal tetras story. I had 10 praecox rainbows, a bunch of corys and a tricolor angelfish. I decided to order 30 cardinals. It's a 55g with 2 seachem tidal 110s so it can handle the bioload. The 30 cardinal tetras came 8n so small, that my angelfish ate all 30 in a matter of days. It was like The Killing Fields in that tank. Just cardinal heads on the bottom till my pleco ate them. They didn't last long

    I used to have red neons & cardinals. But green neons seem superb! You can breed them quite easily. Following healthy diet of pellets & live dapnia, micro-worms, etc. a slim matured male and a fat female with eggs can be isolated into a 5 gallon (4" water level) container with mild aeration (stone bubble). Use a standard solid lid / tank cover. Wrap sides of the entire container / breeding tank with dark clothing to make a suitable environment. Tank bottom should be fully layered with glass marble balls to make egg traps (neons are voracious egg eaters!). Within 2/3 days you will find that the female has become slimmer. Work is done. Put the couple back into your main tank. Eggs will hatch provided aeration is ok with warm temperature of 27 deg.+/-. Feed babies after 2 days with infusoria, little amounts of full boiled crushed egg-yolk. Follow with little amount of daphnia, little amount of finely crushed micro pellets and finely blade-cut micro-worms (do it with cheap shaving razor blades). Change water carefully with narrow siphon on every alternate or two days. Increase water level very slowly as babies grow. Hope you soon have a large family of neons!

    I love every one of your videos about fish and shrimp!!
    I have an aquarium hack that you may find useful for feeding tiny fish. I place some fish flakes in a cup with a small amount of water, and use a 10mL syringe to draw the flakes in and out a couple times. This turns the flakes into tiny pieces that kind of look like baby brine shrimp if you use the syringe to drop the mixture in. I use this method to feed my endler fry until their bellies are bursting every day (this speeds up their growth considerably). I think it tricks them into thinking they're eating live food because they like to chase the particles when they're first dropped into the aquarium and moving erratically, but they ignore the particles afterwards (though I think they eat the leftovers later when they're grazing since the leftovers are always gone an hour later).

      Ember Tetra rock my world. I have a lovely shoal of Silvertips at the moment though, they have a beautiful buttery sheen when fed a varied diet and they love heavy water changes which is good because I feed them quite heavily because they spawn and ignore the fry if they are fed enough.

    I've had mine for about 1.5 years, and I sitll can't get over their colour! They are extremely shy and definitely do better with dithers. In my experience ember tetras are great since they're fearless and orange-red contrasts the blue really well. They're also really curious! If I add a new fish or plant to the tank, they'll all get close to it and stare at it which is adorable

    Thanks for the nice video. I didn't know you had Green Neons. I'm glad to have found a video featuring them. I picked some up a few months back and they were sold to me as just "neons" but mine look like yours and don't seem to have much red on them as normal Neons would. Started with about 25 and now have about 16. But after initial losses, they seem to be growing fast and are very content with their tank. Mine are shy like yours but when they came out they look stupendous and shoal nicely too! I hope to raise them to maturity and give a try at breeding them some day. Hopefully I can. Thanks for the tips. BTW, I just learned how to easily tell the Green Neons from the Neons & the Cardinals. Just look at the strip! the Green Neons extend from the head to the very end of the body at the base of the tail. The stripe on the other two species doesn't do this. Their stripe stops short. Green Neons have the longest stripe. I just checked mine, they are indeed Green Neons! #GreenNeonTetra

    Really enjoyed this video, as well as all your others. Very informative. I think we found use for an empty 10 gal tank sitting by the piano. I do have a question. At 3:46, I see your honey gourami joined by two other darker ones. Our red honey was a beautiful bright color with a white substrate. When we moved everyone to the 20 gal long with a black substrate, he dramatically darkened. Have you found this to be so with your gourami?

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Interesting! Yes, the two wild type/brown gouramis definitely got darker when I moved them from a bare bottom tank to the black sand. Whereas the yellow gourami looked paler on light substrate and more vibrant yellow-orange on dark substrate. Pretty cool, huh?

    I like the color combination of Green Neons and Glowlight tetras. Can you (or anybody) recommend the best light to really make the neon colors "pop"? I'm thinking maybe a mostly white LED with some blue? Or is florescent the way to go? I don't know if it's my imagination, but I think maybe adding something like peat or almond leaf to get tannins in the water might make the neon stand out more. Creates some contrast, I think.

    • @TheCaphits
      @TheCaphits 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sallysutherland5224 they do mostly ok in smaller tanks with live plants in my experience, however they also JUMPED OUT of their tank a lot. Lost most of them like this...
      They should probably not be kept with goldfish, but you could probably make it work. The goldfish might eventually try to eat them, but they should be fast enough, and the goldfish would do it out of curiosity, not hunting, probably.
      Some say the green neon needs a higher temperature than goldfish, but it's probably fine.

    Hello, congrats... nice video.
    Can i keep neon/cardinal tetras together ?
    Can i keep them in very hard-saline water ? Our normal temperatures range from 8 degrees C in winter and 47 degrees C in Summers. Average remains between 30 to 34 degrees between April to november.....
    * Should we put them RO soft water or soft water taken through RO with adding our natural very hard saline water ?
    * What is the best food that should be given to these tetras ?

    Could you keep these different species together rather than 6+ of one species? So like, could you have 4 neons, and 4 blues?

    .y heart is broken. I love love love green neons!! They are my absolute favorite fish. I have only seven because they are hard to find. I was craving more so when my LFS got some in I bought two dozen but they all died!!!!! They were wild caught.

    I am thinking of getting these beauties! I just don't know what types of plants would compliment their color and their body shape. I also live in Portland, Oregon and I don't know where to purchase these fish. I do know about The Wet Spot but I would love locations!

    Can you make a video on how to cycle an Axolotl tank and all the little details about it? 😁

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should! I feel like I need to run some experiments first to see which way works best for me. Now that I have cycled tanks, it's so much easier to grow beneficial bacteria but that's not very helpful for new aquarists. 😅

    *Do they go well with Betta’s? Can I put 5 or 4 green neon tetras in with a Betta plus an algae eater in a 5 gallon tank? Will I need a bigger tank? I’d prefer less than a 10 gallon tank!*

    • @consuelovalk1507
      @consuelovalk1507 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nooo i wouldn't reccomend any fish with bettas unless the tank is very big and filled with hiding places. Snails are better companions!

    • @remhk6672
      @remhk6672 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the bettas personality. But female bettas in general, make better tankmates with other fish as they tend to be less aggressive. I have a female betta with 5 neon tetras and an otocinclus in a 5.5 gallon. She's quite peaceful.😊
