Get a feel for how the wave picks you up and carries you. Then, once you feel comfortable, wait until the wave starts to take you before you try to pop-up (stand up). You're trying to jump to your feet before you have any momentum, which makes it very hard to balance, kinda like trying to balance on a bike when you're not moving. Wait until you're moving, then the board will feel more stable under your feet. Enjoy your travels!
