    Apart from the fact that it's such a cool guitar, I love that you're playing through an amp and a pedal that a lot of players would actually use. Far too many of these demo videos have guys playing through $3,500 -$4,000 hand wired "boutique" amps. Not a very accurate demonstration when the majority of us will be playing through more conventional amps.

    • @Luthiart
      @Luthiart 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had the same question... A satin finish shouldn't make this guitar $200 cheaper. At first, I thought maybe these were 3-ply instead of the 5-ply construction of the regular Casino, but according to the specs on the Epiphone website, these are 5-ply too. I can't think of anything else that would knock $200 off the price.

    OK, I hope you or someone can help and I truly appreciate any advice in advance. I bought a regular Casino a month ago. I like it a lot except for two issues: 1) Tuning: The tuning heads are so small it's annoying and awkward. I could live with them if the guitar stayed in tune but a few hard bends and it's gone. I know I can pay a luthier to replace them with Grovers or whatever, not sure how much that would cost...but would it help stay in tune? How can a $650 guitar have such bad tuners?
    2) Playability: It's not awful but certain things seem "off". When I do big bends sometimes the adjacent string "pops" over the top of the string I'm bending. Never experienced that before. Also when I'm playing the higher frets, it takes more pressure and accuracy to get a clean and solid note. I have a week or two where I can still return it, and I played my 18 year old Schecter S1 Plus and NONE of the above issues exist, but I did have a setup done when I bought it. I forgot how smooth and buttery it was, cuz I've been playing almost all acoustic for the last 15 years. So, I was ready to pay for new tuners and a setup, and then I see the Casino Worn today. But it's $200 less! What's the catch? I checked Epiphone website see the fingerboard is not Pau Ferro and that the neck profile is different, (why the neck profile different on the "same" guitar?) but I'm not sure what that means in terms of playability which is very important to me. Are the pickups the exact same? Are the fret sizes the same? I went to Epiphone website to compare but a lot of it is vague. The regular says "5 layered maple" and the Worn says "Maple" on Epiphone website. I love the Worn look, and I'm thinking "If I'm gonna put $200 into it after the fact, am I better off buying the cheaper Worn version b/c in end I'll end up at the same place for less money?" But is it likely that a setup will fix the playability issues? Will the Worn one still not be as good because of inferior materials? Ugh!

    • @Luthiart
      @Luthiart 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tuning stability is almost always an issue with the nut, not the tuners. Do you hear any "pinging" sounds while you're tuning the guitar? That means the strings are binding in the slots and need to be filed or lubricated. Or just replace it with a bone nut.

    • @stevo5826
      @stevo5826 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @well, I bought a standard VS Casino a few years ago with the thick gloss poly. Earlier this year I spent two weeks knocking it down, thinning it as much as I could. Not only does the resulting semi-gloss look better than the dipped-in-plastic look it had (my opinion of course), but the thinner finish let the guitar vibrate and resonate more. A lot more - it wasn't a subtle difference. So if the worn finish is thin, as I expect it is, I would also expect these to be livelier guitars than the standard gloss. I would have been happy with one of these (but probably the black one - I'm not a big fan of blue, either).

      In low to midrange cost guitars (Epiphone and Squier for example), the gloss they put on is usually very heavy and distracting to the overall finish. They do this because believe it or not, that kind of finish is cheaper and drys faster.
      I prefer a thin coat gloss or a satin because it enhances wood grain or color finishes and doesn't chip.
      This is a nice looking guitar, if you like the Orange over the maple.

      I usually prefer Indonesian (or US, Mexico) made guitars but I had a Chinese made John Lennon Casino and that was probably one of the best guitars I have played, and one of the best looking as well. Of course that was in a different price range, but it shows that the skill in crafting is there. In the end I had to get rid of it as I was too scared to put a dent in it and ruin a perfect guitar. :-)

    • @Luthiart
      @Luthiart 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My 2016 Chinese Casino makes my old Korean one feel like a TOY by comparison. The body is 5-ply laminate, as opposed to the 3-ply of the Korean Casinos, and it just feels over-all like a more solidly built instrument. The guitars Epiphone was making in China between 2010 and 2015 were pretty dodgy, but after 2015, they really stepped up their game across most of their product line. If you directly compare a Casino made in 2015, or later, to any Korean-made Casino, I think you'll notice a palpable difference. The only caveat are the pickups. For some reason, Epiphone thought it would be a good idea to drastically over-wind the pickups with thinner wire, which makes them sound dark and noisy as hell. I sent mine out to be re-wound to vintage spec by Buddha Pickups, and now that guitar is nearly perfect. Almost as good as the Elitist Casino I used to own.

There's probably some variation across the years and factories, I'm referring to my Samicks, a '95 Joe Pass and '97 Sheraton and honestly I don't think you can pick up a Chinese guitar that feels anything like them honestly. Honestly, I'd love to be proven wrong, despite their horrendous labour conditions. Maybe the Peerless Casinos were never that amazing?

      I have a 2018 Chinese build and Epiphone had already worked out all of the kinks in that factory. It feels and plays great. Peerless go for 1,000 or more. Other more specified versions like the Revolution (made in US) or the Japanese elitists can fetch 2 - 3000 used. Thanks to CNC manufacturing, the country of origin is less of a factor in quality than it used to be.
      So for average players like me these are a great bargain and sound great.

      You must admit, it is the one color most players won't already have and Epiphone doesn't want a $449 Casino to compete with their traditional line of Natural and Vintage colors.

    Would that be a human rights nightmare made China guitar? Or a .65/hr Indonesian? Let’s not support that! At least World Music in South Korea pays a good living wage ($9-11/hr)and support freedom.
