Thoroughbreds are fastest at distances of 1 - 1 1/2 miles. Quarter horses are fastest, as their name indicates, at a quarter mile and rodeo events. Arabians are fastest, actually it's more about endurance, over very long distances.

Nope! Wrong on all counts. I play polo, and I breed TBs for racing. The only breed for speed and endurance is the THOROUGHBRED. The two draw backs of TBs is soundness, and temperament. Nowadays, for polo, a mix of CRIOLLO x TB produces the best results, and the Argentinian bred are super. Quarterhorses just don't have the puff needed. But the CAN work all day at good pace. I have owned a couple, and they were good horses, but frankly, you can't GIVE them away.

I have owned quarter horses that could run more than 20 mph for at least 8 miles and rest for less than 5 minutes and return at the same speed and be cooled down afterward in less than 15 minutes--but that is an exceptional quarter horse
The AQH got its name because its speed peaked over 1/4 mile. It was bred to excel at this. Sure, some thoroughbred's are sprinters, but over the 1/4 mile, the AQH is king.

My horse is an Arabian. I have an inner ear disorder and can get vertigo attacks under certain conditions. Going fast on horseback is one. It's rare for me to canter on her, let alone an all out gallop.
Akhe Tekel .. they are not the fastest, but maybe high on endurance and comfort... so long rides, at speed you want one... for sprinting take the thoroughbreed or quarter horse... but for the long rides, at speed and with comfort.. then you want those endurance breeds, Akhe Tekel, the Indian horse, the Arabian..
