  • Apologies for the later-than-planned upload; I had to do a quick re-edit, but I've been out filming a different video today, which caused the delay in getting this uploaded.
    Do you remember the Ford Fusion? For those of you that don’t, it was made between 2002 and 2012, and it was essentially a taller Fiesta, with a bit of plastic cladding on the bodywork. Yes, it offered more space than a standard Fiesta, however, I always thought it was a bit pointless - and quite ugly. 6 years after its death Ford has introduced another Fiesta that is a bit taller and features plastic cladding. Oh, not again, Ford…
    Say hello to the new Ford Fiesta Active, a car that's based on the standard Fiesta, but has a 18mm increased ride height, rough road suspension and a 'slippery' driving mode. The model tested here is the mid-range B&O model, which is fitted with the 125hp variant of the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine.

    I must admit to really getting rankled by the slagging off the Ford Fusion recieves (even now, all these years later). So just to be clear, we had one of the pre facelift versions for 3 years (2005-2008) and of all the cars we have had, the Fusion was probably the most complete in terms of its all round ability. For people who said and say it was pointless to buy one over a Fiesta, i can only assume you have neither reduced mobity (or know and regularly give lifts to someone who is), elderly relatives (or are indeed getting on yourself). Otherwise you'd be well aware that the raised seat height and better headroom accompanied by wide opening doors are an absolute boon over a Fiesta. Ditto the boot which not only had a 20% increase in volume, had a much more useable shape and layout with a very low loading lip level with the boot floor height, and when the seats were folded it left a flat load area. And if that wasn't enough, the front passenger seat folded flat, so you really could use it like a van. Interesting to note that the boot of the Fusion was more capacious not only than the contemporary Fiesta, but all Fiesta's since, and the Fusion's direct successor, the B-Max. So come on guys, give the Fusion a break, for folk that live in the real world with real world issues and needs, it was (and still is if you are on a budget) a cracking little car which, for our requirements, was certainly a better car than the Fiesta!. BTW, i didn't start off to wax lyrical about the merits of the Fusion, the Fiesta Active is very likely to be our next new car!.

      Hi Nick, thanks for watching. 'Echosport' is the correct way to say it, that's how Ford themselves pronounce it. Yes, I know, it makes no sense... 🙄🤦‍♂️🤣

    Another great review. ... Just one question regarding the soft ride quality at cruising speed : ... What do you consider that to be for a car of this size ? .... You mentioned the ride height has been improved so you sit higher than the standard Fiesta. .... I don't think 18mm or 3/4 of an inch in old money would make a great of difference to be honest !!

      @@danielwalker2613 In what sense? You asked about the ride, and I said it could be setup/tuned differently, which I'm pretty sure it is from the standard Fiesta.

    Will you be doing the same for the ka+? That has an active version too plus a new diesel in the range that no one within the UK seems to have reviewed as yet... Another good and very useful review.

    Good review as always, although I never really understood the point of these type of cars, seams to be all about image over actual usefulness, look at me i'm an active sporty person cough cough honest!....about as convincing as driving around with an ironing board on the roof trying to fool people into thinking that your a surfer :-)

    So another ecoboost engine comes on the scene. Just another engine to go bang in the near future. A pointless car that reminds me of the vw polo dune. Pointless stupid and just a pure forehead Slap.

      Old news, they’ve sorted the Ecoboost problems.

      @@hellion1967 I think you're right; they have had enough time to work out the kinks and get them running with better reliability. I think the issues were with the first generation Ecoboost engines.
