    Omg Grace came over from Aussie Soap Supplies to watch this and just made it. It was so easy with your instructions. I’ve used a little of the paste on my hand immediately after cooking and it is not harsh totally soft. I’ve also watched your video to make this into a hand wash (best video I’ve seen, a great doco actually). Just a question, do I need to let this cure for any amount of time before I use the paste for hand wash?

    • @FromGracetoYou
      @FromGracetoYou  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shahn! 💝 I'm so glad that the soap making was easy for you! Near the end of the video, I show that the pH of the soap is around 10. As long as the pH of a soap is 10 or less, it is safe to use. That is true of all soaps including cold process. Curing of cold process soaps does result in a slight pH decline over time, making it even more mild, but I think the main reason people cure so long is to allow the extra water to evaporate, which ends up in a harder, longer lasting bar. So, no, you don't need to let this soap paste cure as long as you have cooked it long enough to reach a pH of 10 or less.

    • @shahncorrysoogoodsoapery1428
      @shahncorrysoogoodsoapery1428 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From Grace to You thanks a bunch for your reply. Yes I seen the PH 10 it was a great indicator for me to tell me paste was finished cooking. Last question if I may, I cooked around 9 hours ago and placed in the fridge in a pyrex container but it hasn’t hardened like your second video it has remained in the same golden translucent state of removing from the cooker but obviously no longer warm… is this ok?

    • @FromGracetoYou
      @FromGracetoYou  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Adebayo Maria!💝 This soap is what is used to make liquid soap. The final soap paste/bar is like a sugar baby candy. It is soft, squishy and sticky. If you add sugar as I do here: th-cam.com/video/xB5iqNbCNMA/w-d-xo.html it becomes more solid, but still is malleable. The reason is that KOH is used as the lye instead of NaOH. So while you could use it as a bar soap after mixing, I would not recommend it unless you make it into a sugar scrub soap 🙂

    Ms Grace, In your opinion, can I use this method for making body wash?

    • @FromGracetoYou
      @FromGracetoYou  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't see why not! In this video, I show how I take the soap paste and make it into a liquid soap for hand dispensers ( th-cam.com/video/ZeytJ5Duits/w-d-xo.html ). I add water and some glycerin to the soap paste and boil it on the stove while stirring and watching that it doesn't boil over until all the soap paste is dissolved. You can then add essential oils or fragrance oils or just leave it like it is without fragrance. I think that liquid soap is convenient for guest baths because lots of guests prefer to get soap from a dispenser than use a bar. But for personal washing, I far and away prefer using the soap bars.💝

      @@FromGracetoYou Well actually I like bar soap also, But, not having made CP soap yet, I have a fragrance oil "Birch Wood and Lavender" that I like but I don't know how it will behave in a soap bar. Even though the label said it had been tested in CP soap making. I just like to have all the info and supplies I can gleem before starting soap making. Crazy idea to try it in liquid body wash first.

    • @FromGracetoYou
      @FromGracetoYou  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh I don't think it's crazy at all. With the liquid soap, the saponification process is complete before you add the fragrance. I think that the fragrance is much more likely to retain its original properties in a liquid soap. Along a similar line, I found that I can add fragrances to soap clay (soap that is fully saponified and mushed up) that normally disappear in the saponification process, but they stay true and stick in the soap clay.

    @midnightblue496 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for sharing but why is the ph so high

    • @FromGracetoYou
      @FromGracetoYou  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Midnight blue! The pH of cold process soap and any soap made with lye (either sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide) has a high pH at first. According to Kevin Dunn in Scientific Soap Making found here: www.amazon.com/Scientific-Soapmaking-Chemistry-Cold-Process/dp/1935652095 the cold process soap maker has two ways to control the pH of their soap. One is to vary the fatty acid content of the soap by choosing different butters and oils and the other is to let the soap become more acidic by curing it. As it cures, the acidic CO2 in the air will slowly neutralize alkalis in the soap. The range of pH made by cold process soapmakers is approximately 10-11.4 There is a table provided by Kevin Dunn (p229) that shows the pH ranges for fatty acid and soap mixtures. He shows :
      Fatty Acid pH
      Lauric Acid 10.1
      Myristic Acid 10.4
      Palmitic Acid 10.7
      Stearic Acid 11.4
      Oleic Acid 11.2
      Linoleic Acid 10.9
      Linolenic Acid 10.4
      Normal healthy skin has a pH range of 5.4-5.9. I have read that healthy skin will restore that pH soon after bathing. But I will tell you what I do to lower my skin pH after my shower. Every week I make this solution ( th-cam.com/video/sdPRkFWSV5w/w-d-xo.html ) I spray it onto my hands and mix it with some of my moisturizing oils or Quenchy cream ( th-cam.com/video/YqsrsQqgRi8/w-d-xo.html ) then smooth it over my skin.

    • @FromGracetoYou
      @FromGracetoYou  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear shk afs, I don't think so, but you know I am not sure. Water is the solution used to dissolve the lye and the for the oils and other ingredients to react in. Whether or not glycerine could accomplish the same objective...I don't know. Perhaps you could research it and let us know. 🤔😊 One problem with too much glycerine in soap is that it sweats too much because glycerine is a humectant (draws water to itself from say, the atmosphere) That is one reason I don't like a lot of the glycerine heavy melt and pour soaps.

So I will tell you what I do to lower my skin pH after my shower.
