Glad to see Yuengling has made it down your way! Im from PA and that has always been the "local" beer here. Some good looking leather there too. That stuff gets better with age and use in my opinion.
You did a great job, brother! Too many people are afraid to modify their gear, and sometimes modifications are part of maintenance. A man's gear is a personal thing, knowing how to make it your own is character.
I can't afford the high dollar leather either so I got into making my own. Talk about going down a rabbit hole! I'm with you on the splotchey dye to. I also like the imperfect look of my hand stitching! 👍👍!!!
I like the color. One thing to consider is pulling the main holster body out of the loops so that the new color can get on all of the holster. That way if the gun is put back in there and pushes down the main body a little you won’t see the line. Looks great though.
I cant justify spending 500 to 600 on a nice rig. I am starting to learn how to make my own havent made anything exceptional yet but I'm trying. Good job buddy they look great.
Thanks, brother. I hope I'm always the kind of person who values what works..although I DO have a taste for finer things which my income can't support :)
I worked for Oklahoma Leather back in the early 90’s while I was going to college. I used to get some of the scrap leather and make things. I still have pieces to this date and they are as good as gold.
One thing I have found is that using nickel plated cases in the cartridge loops works pretty good to keep the verdigris from causing the rounds to not chamber.
Howdy Plowboy, im a new subscriber to your channel, I found you via 11bang bang, im glad they pointed me in your direction. I make all of my holsters, mainly for Cowboy Fast Draw but I do appreciate a authentic holster. I like what you have done with your holsters, however I think you could have gotten the same result using Neets foot oil and oil conditions leather extending its life. Enjoying your videos very much, do you have one on how you antiequed your 1873? As long as your making videos im watching, have a good day sir.
I'm glad to hear that you made your way here! I believe I discussed what I did to that Cimarron in this video: th-cam.com/video/OjgpNU8B6ZU/w-d-xo.html&t
I have a leather shaving kit I travel with. Last trip tiny bottle Listerine leaked. Washed leather with saddle soap. And put a dark brown dye. Looks great now
Great video! I did the same with a belt I got from Buffalo Arms. I even added a border stamp n it dyed it russet. Looks good enough for the price. Love the topic Thanks alot:)
I think the outcome looks awesome! I love the distressed look, and I also like the red highlights. I make leather holsters and belts, and I developed a mahogany with red highlights colors that I use for all my own products. I understand your stand on your leather goods, but that one belt on your rig I've seen in many of your videos, and it drives me nuts. In fact, give me your waist size, and I will build and send you a belt on me. I'll get your ship to address when I'm ready to ship. Love the video.
Laying a soft tape on top of my belt while I'm wearing it, it's 43-1/2". That's an unbelievably generous offer. Thank you. You can reach me at plowboysghost@yahoo.com
I’m hearing a Rolling Stones tune in my head. 😊 My wife bought me a whole drawer full of cheapo picnic table covers. She’s hoping I’ll cover a table now n then! 😂 I’ve got some holster pattern books with pictures of holsters back when. Some looked mighty thin and less than great. I own a few El Paso saddlery from 20 years ago but most come from Ebay or this 1 local guy. I usually tell him ‘not too thick’. (me) 😊
That one with the black powder belt is as nice of a rig as I've ever seen. I've got a holster that was made in the 1880's. I'm fixing to redo the latigo on it. I've used it to tote about every Colt and early S&W type revolver I've owned. I bought a spool of latigo and can't find it 😂😂😂
Good stuff, I think changing up your gear is just a way to make it your own and if you like it thats what matters. Got a belt just like that in the cabinet. Just one other thing, if you want to shine up your newly died leather get leather balm with atom wax made by the same folks that made your dye. It is a finish for leather but it is not high gloss. If you buff it down good it will shine up but not like poly or acrylic.
Sir, Thank you for this video. This is exactly what I want to do to my holster and belt for my 1858 Remington. I was contemplating getting a burgundy shoe polish to try and darken them. This looks awesome and seems like it'll be faster to do. Once again Thank you.
I have to admit that was satisfying to watch, i agree about the different colors, it does have an antiqued rustic look plus it looks better, I like your gun belt, I have a few holsters but I need a gun belt so I can load it up with .45 colt rounds
I'm not a big fan of the Black & Tan, but maybe some day we can have a Yeungling together. I'll BOYB some Golden. Having a Modelo Oro while watching this. I'd like to do some leather work, but I wouldn't be able to make the time for it with everything else. It is easier to watch other people do leatherwork while I edit video. Thanx Plowboy.
I agree. To me it does make them look better. I like the worn in "uneven" look. Speaking of worn in looking, I'm really diggin' that finish job you done on that Cimmaron. It's amazingly beautiful. I don't think I've seen a better finish. It's not even the battle worn look really bc it's almost separate colors on the metals for the cylinder and frame. Great job man. P.S. Was that Rural King or Tractor Supply Co or Dependable True Value or where did you get that leather dye locally here? I need to grab some for a SA holster I bought over in Muscle Shoals the other day at a little gun and pawn shop I stopped at the browse. Later man. 🐍 🇺🇸
@@plowboysghostoh ok thanks. Yea I've known Barry and Mr. Stidham my whole life. I hated we lost him last year. Barry is keeping the store up good tho. There is a guy just a couple miles from me up here on the mountain that has a leather shop called Johnson's Leather if you're not already familiar. He does pretty good work and does a pretty wide range of custom stuff. He's only at it about 1/2 time right now bc he went back to his 9-5 but he has alot of stock and his wife helps him.
