West Virginia is something special. I was there in the summer of 2012. A nasty storm rolled thru and I was with a utility company. Some of the nicest people I've ever met, beautiful scenery. Did alot of work in the upper tract area
I can't explain how excited it makes me to see you in West Virginia. I'm from the Charleston area and it really inspired me that you came all this way to have this adventure. I've been getting my gear ready for this spring and going out as often as I can this winter. Thanks so much Joe for inspiring me to get outside and helping me find what I love to do! Looking forward to your next bushcraft base camp videos. Have another awesome year!
You guys are great. Love what y'all do and always enjoy your videos. I love cramping and bushcraft. Maybe after more back surgery I will be able to get back at it. I'm 42 years old and have been doing bushcraft since I was a kid in South Carolina. Keep making them videos Joe and love what y'all do.
It's great how giggly Joe gets when he's with other people on camps... this video is 8 years old but to this day he giggles like a little kid when he's with someone else. Just shows how much he loves being out in the bush. Good stuff joe
I officially watched and liked all of your videos in the shed in the past while. I've been working on a few projects and followed you along all your expeditions. I've learned a lot and have had fun along the way. Thanks Joe!
I live in West Virginia... We have some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. And our camping is crazy good. Throughout my life, I've probably spent 2 of my 41 years in the woods camping if not more. I've been all over the U.S. camping and I must say right here at home is some of the best. I'm glad you got to see our wonderful state Joe.
Hi Joe, I'm here watching all your old videos on autoplay whilst I work. I will like and comment where I can to help the algorithm, in hopes that TH-cam will be kind to you while you heal. You have well wishes and support coming from my corner of the world.
Great trip Joe! I have watched most of your vids, you have inspired me to get out and do it myself. My boy and I went on our first overnight a couple of days ago and had a blast in our hammocks. We will be going out regularly the rest of the year. So a big thanks, and keep the vids coming man. Matt
That's what it's all about 💯 showing the next generation the beauty of the outdoors and inspiring them for more. Every day is an adventure and when your young what can be better then staying up late, sleeping outside and having a fire 💯 when they're young you can be on an expedition hunting/ searching for anything.
What an epic video, seriously well done, not only for making the hike but for filming it too ...you even met the quota for walking scenes ;)) A sincere thanks for sharing this Mr Robinet ~Peace~
Where I grew up with my granny and grandpa in their cabin. I truly love Dolly Sods and my brother and I try to go at least once a year for a camping/hiking trip.
Born and raised my whole life in WV. There's many beautiful places here that many people have never experienced especially our own people. Lots of trails and places to camp and hike.
I'm in eastern Kentucky in the foothills not far from West Virginia and I spend a lot of time in the mountains and on the river. Good to see you in my neck of the woods.
That was an excellent video...Between both you and Kyle ribbing each other it was more like a comedy and made it a pleasure to watch. Looking forwards to more uploads...Peace guys.
I never realized you came to west virginia. I lived there for 24 years. raised there. miss those woods. Camping in my home state with Joe Joe be...can't get better than that.
Super video, Joe (and Kyle)! Dolly Sods is a 3 hour drive from my home...just may be my next adventure. Incredible scenery and the trails look fairly easy to moderate. Great filming, Joe!
As soon as I saw that side pool after you crossed the river, I thought, "Man, I wish they'd go down next to it so we can see what it'd be like to swim in it..." Then Kyle decided to swim in it! Mad props to him for doing it, too! This is probably one of your best videos to date! Awesome trip and thanks for taking us along!
Hi Joe, This is my second time viewing this video. You guys are so lucky being young enough to go to all these beautiful places. I have ridden through West Virginia on a motorcycle coming home to Florida a few years ago. Not sure if you ever been to Florida BUT, There is not one stone, rock or cliff in Florida, not even a hill. There is a few hills in Central Florida. No rocks anywhere. It was so nice to see all this in this video. People have to import rocks here to use in landscaping. I'm originally from New England and miss the beautiful country side/mountains. I get to see it in your' videos. Thanks Joe.
I watch all your videos of you camping in those beautiful locations in Canada. Can't believe you were hiking in dolly sods 45 minutes from my house . Very cool man
😁😅😅😅 I've felt that way before! " They hate us cause they ain't us!" 😂😂 That really made me laugh. I love watching your videos and I remember watching this video when I first started seeing your videos . Watching you never gets old for me Joe. And Kyle is a cool friend you got there . Hopefully he got to feeling better even though it's been years since you two did this trip and I've seen more recent videos latley of you two camping together. I hope the best for you both and your other friends you camp with aswell. I just want to say thank you for all the videos you do and all the hard long trips you share with us.
Great video as always. I love the banter between you two. You did am amazing job of conveying the beauty and showing it on camera. Thank you for another great show!
Just found your channel yesterday--turns out I did almost this exact hike, solo, 3 weeks ago, even from where (I'm guessing) you parked at the edge of the wilderness. I even ate lunch in the same spot, two years later. Camped the second night at the forks, though, and there was still quite a bit of snow on rocky ridge when I went. It's pretty damn cool to see people you know are legit backpackers do the same trips.
JoeRobinetBushcraft It was definitely a blast, makes me a little upset there isn't more wild lands around my part of the U.S. Thanks for bringin us along.
Great video as always, Joe! I'm so jealous of all these incredibly huge stretches of forest and mountains that America and Canada have. Here in the UK we're lucky to have a few square miles of hills :P
I live on West Virginia and it's really cool to see that you made your way down here and actually I think I was there around this time. I've been there a few times and it's easy to get lost. So much land!
Awesome track you guys took. Absolutely beautiful sites! No wonder poor Kyle got asthma having a dunk in that freezing cold water! Looking forward to watching your next vid dudes 😄
Beautiful country. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania and within a 2 hour drive to West Virginia. We use to sneak over there to buy beer all the time.🙃
Joe, first off I wanna tell you that I love your videos. Secondly, I can not believe that you went up rocky point but didn't go to the famous Lions Head. It's one of my most memorable sites from my many trips up there. Heading back in a few days actually, but anyways keep up the good work. lol, also, I went up there this past winter and didn't know about that gate 3 miles before the trail head parking. Fun walk up that hill, ah? I had never saw such a long, straight road (once you hit the top and go around that turn). It was 4 degrees F that day with 50 mph winds up on bare rocks and it made for an amazing experience.
Wow, love the video. Hubby and I are close but never camped. You make it look possible and captured the greatest views. Equipment review is always a plus as you are teachingthanks us novices....thanks a lot.
Wow never been there but looks good! If you enjoyed West Virginia you should put the Sierras on your bucket list, especially the eastern side with the high desert...its more green than you'd expect!
Now that was a beautiful trail! The rivercrossing reminds me of a trip to Iceland..had to cross a river comming down from one of the glaciers - my feet went instantly numb. I recomend neopren shoes. They don't take up a lot of space and your walkingshoes/boots don't get wet.
I live basically right below dolly sods. At 4:20 me and a buddy was driving his jeep at that exact spot and smashed into some of those rocks because of the ice all over the road. It can get extremely bad up there during the winter.
Awesome video Joe, my favorite still is camping with a girl, my wife and i have been sectioning the A/T so that one hit home, really enjoy your stuff.. keep it going . i have learned some good points watching.. Marty
There was a very nice trail through that ground brush. One time I was hiking back in one of those places and I was wearing sorts, my legs were always wet with blood.
Next time you are in the West Virginia / Virginia area, around or above 3,000ft during April, look for ramps. The best wild onion you will ever eat and you can eat the whole thing, the leaves are great. They are easy to spot and when you find them you find them in very large patches. They come out early spring and last until the trees get too much growth and shade them out. Usually around runs and streams.
It's always windy at Dolly Sods. Great video. I have been there several times to pick blueberries in July. It great to see the Boreal zone plants. There is actually one place where you can see snow year round.
great vid. I was looking forward to it and enjoyed it. I've lived in West Virginia most of my life. I was blessed to be born and raised here, it truly is "almost heaven"! Great video as always Joe!!
West Virginia is something special. I was there in the summer of 2012. A nasty storm rolled thru and I was with a utility company. Some of the nicest people I've ever met, beautiful scenery. Did alot of work in the upper tract area
From a born and raised WV Mountaineer, thank you for coming and enjoying our beautiful state, come again there is a lot to explore!
That's West Virginia baby, we have all kinds of great hiking places, glad you liked it and come back

What a glorious feeling to sit by a camp 🔥 enjoying the heat and the camaraderie with friends.

a little something at beginning of this video brought me back to my childhood, thanks Joe
I officially watched and liked all of your videos in the shed in the past while. I've been working on a few projects and followed you along all your expeditions. I've learned a lot and have had fun along the way. Thanks Joe!
Great trip Joe, very beautiful countryside and you were with Kyle, so fun times i bet. Thanks for taking us along. Cop ya mate.
I'm about to finish watching all of your vids, Joe. This is one of my faves. Love the raw feel, it's as if I came with you on the trip. :)

DocKobryn coal and oxycontin! I'm from east Kentucky, at least y'all got some coal left!!😁😁😁
Hi Joe, I'm here watching all your old videos on autoplay whilst I work. I will like and comment where I can to help the algorithm, in hopes that TH-cam will be kind to you while you heal. You have well wishes and support coming from my corner of the world.
I love how relaxed you were on this trip. You joked around a lot and I love that! Loved the whole video! Can't wait for the next one.
Absolutely fantastic! The Dolly Sods are now on my bucket list.
"They hate us cuz they ain't us" LOLOL, you clowns did some serious trekkin. My hats off, well done guys.
ScrambledO lol.
ScrambledO Hahaha. That part scared me a bit, to be honest. :P
Great trip Joe! I have watched most of your vids, you have inspired me to get out and do it myself. My boy and I went on our first overnight a couple of days ago and had a blast in our hammocks. We will be going out regularly the rest of the year. So a big thanks, and keep the vids coming man.

Beautiful country. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania and within a 2 hour drive to West Virginia. We use to sneak over there to buy beer all the time.🙃
When I use to backpack in the Boston Mountains, N W Arkansas. I loved to eat Mountain House Beef & Rice with onions. It always tasted great !!!
8:40 that was mountain laurel it looks like a smaller leaved rhododendron. Which is a great way to tell them apart!

I was born and raised in West Virginia--and everyone should see this state, hopefully before the strip mines destroy it.
lol are you inbred once or twice?
Janet Wilham some natural parts of WV are good, but bro. WV is the worst state in the east coast.
Water Snake hey I live in eastern WV it's quite lovely actually.
Great video, thanks. I use to drive 75 often. I might have to make that trip, didn't even know about that place.
Ive been to Killarney many times - one of my most favorite places in the world. I would say French River area up by the rapids is my favorite.
Im new to bushcraft/survival, from WVa. Love the videos! Learning alot. Thanks
Great video really enjoyed this one!
It's always windy at Dolly Sods. Great video. I have been there several times to pick blueberries in July. It great to see the Boreal zone plants. There is actually one place where you can see snow year round.
MrOldclunker I loved it there!
Beautiful area, great video thanks for sharing!
Hanging out by the fire wit beers is 1 of my favorite parts lol js
I dunno how I missed this, but I just found out about Dolly Sods and found this video very informative.
