Ron re: the 1-5-1 3 colors is a whopper, is it wrong that I'm laughing?!? Barriers falling, actual melodic fluidity, with every possible voicing imaginable, yoda,,, maybe, wizard, sure after the lifetime of work, like all the true masters, you make it look easy, I get these glimpses and I can see it, hear it, it's a blast, just toolin around the fretboard with careless abandon laughing like a fool, loving every minute of it, thank you Ron, You're aces man, B
Can't say he's best living jazz guitarist, since NYC has several playing at this level, but he is very, very good. I enjoy his playing. The bass player is much more impressive, and I just saw Jeff Berlin live, and also play 6-s bass myself. Great chord work, a very melodic solo, and solid groove when comping.
Ugnex, I play also, so i am a reasonable judge of ; WHAT I LIKE at any level. In one week in NYC, i saw, J. Abercrombie, J. Scofield, J. McGlaughlin, Alan Holdsworth, Larry Coryell, Bucky Piziarelli. And Alan Donson, who turned down Return To Forever. I did an duo album with him, and Miles D. said "It's cool." So maybe I do have a valid opinion on guitarists. I like Ron's playing. Your mileage may vary.
Back for more, found a nifty glissando peel off, old news to you, new to me, from the 5 note, stacked 3rd's = G, B, Eb, D real quick to the 9, using it everywhere, true your comment about three lifetimes, if we do come back I hope we keep our knowledge, knocked a fret off my Parker Nitefly, while digging the new Mesa v -35, whoa, ha, B PS, same from the 2nd to get to the 6, yo ~ fat stacks, dang, ;~}
@Samuijazz The bass player is an old student of his and is not more interesting. Good god! Rons playing a 7 string and half the time you think you are hearing the bass player its not its Ron on the low A.
Playing at this level? Don't try to analyze the quality of his musicianship. Of course there are no bests in the world of music, why are you even trying to argue against it. I've sat in watching many of his gigs at Steamers, and I have to say, overall, he is one of the most enjoyable living musicians to listen to and watch, on or off the stage.
Beautiful tone on guitar! Yeah Ron swingin his arse off! Nice job by the trio.
Really, another, sooo dahmn gooood!!! The power of three, fine tuned , sharp, and swinging hard,
