It's hard to believe Chevrolet used plastic for something that is so important . My 05 is sitting dead in the water because of this. Thank you for the informative video.
Remove the center console and the gear shifter and you can manually pull the shifter up and down to kinda drive the car but if its destroyed from the transmission itself then you are stranded bud
I bought a cable and had the dealer install it. It worked fine at first then it starting to get off a gear. Took it back and they adjusted it but now it's doing it again. Do you think they forgot to put the cable in the mid slot.? I bought another cable and it had the red piece on it but the first one didn't have it. What do you think could be the issue
I've watched several of these C5 cable replace videos. Not one person has taken the time to say if the red plastic box-looking fitting on the rear of the new cable is discarded? Is it some packing and shipping piece to protect that end? Or is it left on because it's a new improved cable that helps protect the fitting? Why didn't this cross someone's mind when they put together a how-to video?
The red plastic piece keeps the cable adjuster from locking in place. Once the cable is installed, place the shifter in N, the transmission in N, and THEN remove the red piece so you can lock in the adjustment. Getting ready to do this on my C6.
Can't see anything you're doing. Next video please point to camera towards the parts that you're working on because watching you from 6 ft away with your hands hidden up underneath the car is useless.
Always remember that there have been TWO different cable applications from 1997 to 2009. Halfway through the 2003 model year GM went to the newer cable, part # 10352529.
@@jeffshadow2407 ah, I have an 04 and keep seeing that apparently from 97-02 and 03-05 had different cables yet I haven't seen anybody state the difference in them. From what I've seen they're even the same length.
You didn't have to pull any clips off the front? The whole reason I was watching was to see how you did the front clip. Did you pull the console and go through the interior?
You guys spend way to much time BS'n. Get to the point !! Majority of us are gearheads - just need a little help with remembering how to get the job done. I know how automatic transmission works, just wanted to double check myself on cable replacement. WTF??
Great video. It’s hard to believe the Corvette engineers came up with such garbage. In a good quality sports car like Porsche, it would be actual linkage, metal rod or bar and not a plastic covered cable poised to fail. What junk from GM.

Same here, it happened to me yesterday 😅
Was left stranded on a mountain

Well I bought another cable and when I got my cam installed I had them put it on. Good to go now
What about the clip on the cable by the shifter?
Can you please help me? I got the job done car started but I couldn't shift it back to park. Did I do something wrong?
Did you ever figure out why? Mine is doing the same thing rn

I have a ‘98 C5 and replaced the cable, works for a few days like new but keeps falling out. Any ideas? Anybody else experience this issue?
I need to know how he used his hand to shift it into neutral
Looks easy, when you have a lift.
U ain't kidding
thumbs up 3 min into the vid. seen to many vehicles fall off lifts and jacks.

any idea what the difference is between them
@@c5mourn Not sure but my VIN is 126600 for the 2003 model year. I have the removed cable for sale. All one needs is the Dorman white grommets.

My local dealer here in Austin charged me $1151 including the $64 part..I felt way gouged 🙄
I just had my c6 towed to the dealership. First it wouldn't go in reverse. I turned it off and it wouldn't go in park so it won't start.

What's the total time to complete this repair? Im about to fix this on my c6
No lights???
Just talking 😢
Took me 5 hours doing it without a lift and with about 9-10 inches of space :) car lift would’ve taken me an hour max
This video is useless, show the cable being put into the car.
If you want yours replaced hit me up I’m in Missouri! Just buy the cable on Amazon quit the bullshit and I’m in Illinois/Missouri
Can you send me a contact number, I have some questions
That’s not the transmission that’s in my C5 (2004)
