      I'm not sure if I missed it but I didn't see where you put the fuel filter which is imperative for safety as dirt from the fuel will clog up the orifice and it will start to put out carbon monoxide.
      It should also be noted that the oxygen sensor is not very relevant because you can still be getting carbon monoxide poisoning from that heater while you have oxygen present. This is especially the case with this heater since carbon monoxide is lighter than oxygen and it will build up where you are breathing all the while the heater on the ground is getting plenty of oxygen and will continue to put out a deadly situation of carbon monoxide poisoning. I nearly died from using this heater.

      @HondaCrf450r. What I stated was all facts no opinion. Bottom line when it doesn't work you or a loved one may die. So congrats for not dieing good job still doesn't change the actual dangers. And when you say you use it in your room it is very nonspecific what you mean by room as long as it has a ton of ventilation you could be having all sorts of stuff in there and it won't hurt you. I used mine for a few months it wasn't until it actually got down to 0 and negatives when we turned it all the way up that we had problems. The doctor said that we could have been getting small amount of poisons and could be getting those for years before anything is noticed. They explained it wasn't until you reached a certain level that you begin to have problems but you could be right on the edge of that level and not even know it until it's way to late. I'm simply bringing up some factual data about the way the unit works and the dangers related to that. Then people's responses are will I did it and I didn't get hurt. Yeah of course not everybody's going to get hurt that's not the point once again congrats for being one of those my message was for people trying to avoid dangers and possible death of loved ones.

    i heated a 1000sqft house with one of these last winter, im in the carolinas so we dont get stupid cold like some areas do but still sub freezing for a few days at a time here and there.... my secret was to set a box fan on a small stool behind it where thew airflow passed right over the top of the heater, worked liked a charm, with that and a milk house heater at other end of house (open floor plan) i stayed relatively warm all winter, it will eat up a 40# bottle in short order though..... i think about 2 days running on med (9k btu)...... but main point is that moving that hot air off the heater around the house made a huge difference

    Since you have the tank outside, go ahead and use a 100 lb cylinder. It will last about 1 month and longer if you keep it on low and shut off when not needed. Only downside is it requires a pickup truck to transport vs a car. It must be transported UPRIGHT when full. I use these on my parked home based camper trailer to keep warm after the furnace went out. Been doing it now for 2 winters using the Mr heater big buddy and a 100 lb tank. Not a 20 or 30 lb tank. Requires refilling after about 3 days. Hope this helps out.

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends. I ran the numbers the other day to see about heating when my solar production is low. These numbers are based on my $0.24 / kWh and purchasing propane to refill 20lb tanks at tractor supply.
      For me, heating with propane, especially when filled at $3.99 per gallon, tends to be more cost-effective than using electricity in my window unit.
      Propane is around $0.0436 per kBTU, compared to $0.0703 per kBTU for an electric heat pump.
      However, costs can vary based on local prices and the efficiency of your heating systems.

      @@stevenwatson2699 Thanks for letting us know. That's pretty close to what I got. I ended up doing the math in another video, and I came up with 15lbs in a standard 20lb tank, giving you the following:
      Low = 81 hours
      Medium = 36 hours
      High = 18 hours
      It appears that this varies quite a bit from person to person, but it's how the math works out based on the manufacturer's numbers.

    Unvented heaters are dangerous. Do you have a carbon monoxide detector? Also, these can add moisture to your indoor environment (not good if you have moisture and/or indoor air quality issues).

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No doubt there is some risk here. Probably not much more than having a gas oven though. Even so, multiple carbon monoxide detectors is a must when using gas for heat or anything else. This product has been designed for indoor use. Here is a snippet from the official Mr. Heater documentation: "With the Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) and accidental tip-over safety shut-off, you can be sure that you will enjoy years of comfortable indoor safe heat."

    • @thirty-ninereset6428
      @thirty-ninereset6428 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The risks with unvented space heaters are much higher than with a vented furnace (propane or gas) and definitely higher than a gas stove. How many hours per day is your gas stove on? How many hours is your Mr. Buddy on for? Glad to hear you are using CO detectors, keep an eye on them (fresh batteries, etc), esp. if you've got little ones running around. Also, don't discount the excess moisture / indoor air quality issues. Mobile homes are particularly susceptible to water damage (it doesn't take much to help your floor go soft) and mold growth is not good for any of the occupants of your home. Be safe!

    As long as I stick with 20 lb tanks that can be exchanged I don't have to worry about them expiring and needing to be re-certified or replaced. And, I know of no place that exchanges 30 lb cylinders.

    • @richardowens9061
      @richardowens9061 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, I know. I get my tanks refilled at U-Haul. But, I stick with the 20 lb tanks because if I'm in an area that has no place I can get the tank refilled, but they do still have a place where I can exchange a 20 lb tank, I can still get propane without having to buy another tank - since, I wouldn't be able to exchange a 30 lb tank.
      I was only arguing against the 30 lb cylinders in general. I've had other larger size cylinders and it is nice to have the longer run time between fills, but I will always keep at least one 20 lb tank on hand to use in a pinch.

But, if you are going to, be absolutely sure there's no leak on the tank side of the hose. You could take a little soapy water and look for bubbles by spraying it around the connection. I must have been asleep when you explained the reason for this video. So would you please explain it again? My common sense tells me that if the person filling the tank didn't have a problem with the dirty connection then neither should I. But then I live in Okla so I could be wrong.

      That’s a fair question. At the time when I made this video it was because one of my other videos was getting a lot of comments asking if it was possible to use a 30 pound tank with a Mr. heater big buddy. This was simply to show that it is possible. That’s it. Nothing fancy. Nothing earth shattering. In addition, the video was for my subscribers. At the time I was doing a consistent vlog and this was just showing a little bit of what I was doing.

I nearly died from using this heater and many others have died including their families.

    Well that was about as informative as watching grass grow! What were we supposed to learn from that video???? How not to connect a dirty tank to any device so as to introduce dirt and other crap from messing up something valuable?
    You didn't even pressure air blow out that mud dauber dirt before connecting....not too bright. Also, not putting some sort of barrier between the heater and a combustible piece of furniture is seriously incompetent! You are not firing on all cylinders at all! Thumbs down!

      I usually don't feed the trolls but I'm going to address this one.
      1: Sorry you didn't learn anything here. I never said I was going to teach a class on using the Mr. Heater Big Buddy wth a 30 lb tank.
      2: If you had listened to what I said in the video you would have know that I set aside the dirty 30 lb tank and used a clean one.
      3: The Mr. Heater Big Buddy is designed in such a way that it can be safely set close to combustible pieces of furniture as long as they are not in front of the heater.
      4: Before you go off insulting my competence level and intelligence on my channel, check your facts.
      5: I noticed that you have 0 videos on your channel. Since you're a wealth of knowledge, go make a positive contribution to society and post your brilliance over there

      I think you're missing the point here. This guy came onto my channel to pick a fight in the comments section. not to ask a question or make a logical point. I have no problem with non-video creators commenting on my channel. In fact, on average, most comments come from people with no content of their own. The difference is that they come on to engage with my community in a civil way. I will not allow someone to come on and insult me or others on this channel without being corrected. Now, I'm not saying I don't let people point out mistakes I make. look at some of my other videos. they have all kinds of criticism on them and I usually thank the person and move on.

      You're 100% right. My 5th point (after clearly pointing out how he was incorrect and addressing the issue) was a quasi-ad hominem attack. I shouldn't have gone there.

    THIS IS A MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS TO LIGHT WITH A 20 LB TANK AND HOSE !! JUST THE PILOT LIGHTS.....ONE SIDE LIGHTS UP AND I CAN'T GET IT TO THE high position without it going out. How long is this suppose to be bled? My dam finger is going to fall off. Screw this nonsense. I'll stick to the dam 1 lb cylinders

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never had that issue. It does take some time to get the pilot to light after I first get it all connected. I usually just turn it on high for a few seconds before attempting to light it. Maybe you've got an obstruction in the line somewhere. could be a bad regulator too. I'm really just guessing.

      At first when I bought mine I couldn't use the heater on high as well using a 20 lb. tank and I used a 1 lb. cylinder on the right side so I could burn on high setting but now I can use the high setting with just the 20 lb. tank connected !!!

    You didn't get into anything of value. At the very least you could have talked about how long the tank would last, cost, etc...

      I have this same heater and the approximate times listed on the outside of the packing box are as follows:
      One 1lp Cylinder: 1.5 to 6 hours
      One 20lb Cylinder: 25 to 110 hours
      Double these times if you run two cylinders I usually run my heater only on low and I am always amazed at how much heat and how long a 20 pound tank will last. I am very pleased with the performance. Hope this helps

      The point of this video is that you can use a 30lb tank. Done. The end.
      If you are looking for a step by step video on screwing the hose to the unit, we've got other videos demonstrating that.
      Thanks for the comment.

    Probably not the safest thing to have it running inside the house

    • @sx20Ramar

      Why can the Buddy heaters be used indoors safely?
      There are a couple of required safety features needed for vent free heaters to be used indoors safely. A BURNER that is 99.9% efficient at burning all the gas it consumes so that very little CO or carbon monoxide is emitted. The heater also requires a ODS or Oxygen Depletion System that will shut off the heater if the Oxygen level drops to a still safe 18%. Because these heaters are portable, they also require a TIP SWITCH so if it they are knocked over the gas flow stops shutting off the flame and gas. Last there is a FLAME SENSOR safety shut-off system that will shut off all gas flow if the flame goes out. This unit has all of these.

    I can't say how many safety issues this video's exposes. Clearly putting yourself and family members at significant risk. Running a propane hose through a sliceable window, the heating unit touching a highly flammable piece of furniture, showing diaper bags behind the unit indicating infant(s) in the home... I don't know what else to say.. Lastly, clearly indicating that the tank itself was not anywhere near clean poses even greater risk. I am concerned to see video's promoting this type of extreme hazards to folks that simply may decide to follow this example and put themeselves and family members at SIGNIFICANT risk. Please, either pull tis video and make some major adjustments to your setup. Lastly, these include possible gas explosions from a leak, carbon monoxide poisoning caused by incomplete combustion from an appliance or piece of equipment. It's important to understand what risks you may be facing when you choose gas or heat for your home.

      What is a sliceable window? Are you suggesting that in that position the window could cut the hose? A tank that is not clean? What is the suggestion there? You know nothing about the tank other than is doesn’t look clean and you deem it unsafe? He shows how the heat is not present on the side and yet you say it is touching? Yeh the placement in the cooler maybe not the best idea although I touch the bottom of mine and it is not hot after running for extended period so I don’t see much issue there either. . I’m guessing with your sort of risk profile you wouldn’t even use one of these period.
