    I noticed that in Manhattan in NYC, most parking garages seem to have a valet system, which would make things difficult. I don't know there are other cities which have a similar issue, but most I have been in have not. I like to go to SciFi conventions, and in a big city these are are sometimes held in big downtown hotels which can also have parking garages, making them convenient in the short term, if they don't use a valet system.

    • @livinginaprius
      @livinginaprius  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a very good point. People should check to see if valet is required. The garage I am in has valet, but it is optional.

    Stellar plan. Only one problem for me, I snore. Badly. I could never pull off the stealth, but it’s a phenomenal idea.

      Like you, I also had a problem with snoring. After experimenting, I found that I could eliminate my snoring if I slept on my side. Interestingly enough, sleeping on my side actually reduced my acid reflux as well, but only if I slept on my left side. That probably has something to do with the shape and position of the stomach. Anyway...
      Thank you for taking the time to watch the video, and thank you for the supportive comment. It is much appreciated.

      I wonder if a CPAP machine would be useful for the snoring issue. I've seen Vanlifers using CPAP machines.

      @@dougt8215 yes, a cpap would solve the snoring issues, but I’ve never been able to adapt to sleeping with one.

    Yes, very good video. Thank you for the information. I love my 2nd gen Prius and have camped inside many times. I need to improve my stealth though, so I will watch your vids on that next.

    Great video! Love your analytical approach and explanation 👍. I binged watched all your videos for hours and enjoyed it. I am also planning to start suv stealth camping in a major city once my rent is up. Your video has been educational!
    Could you please do a video on list of necessary and nice to have items? Also what are the current items you carry in car? How do you deal with receiving mails or delivery? How has your set up change in the winter?

      Thank you for watching the videos and taking the time to leave a thoughtful and positive comment. I haven't posted a video in a while, because I have been busy with work, but I will start working on one soon. You had some great questions that I am sure others have as well, so I will make sure that I answer those questions in my next video. Good luck with your own stealth camping, and safe travels!

    What about the ventilliation? I thought it is not recommended to park and sleep in a parking garage cause of carbon monoxide due to poor ventilation. Or are you choosing open air carparks?

    • @livinginaprius
      @livinginaprius  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very good question. I was concerned about carbon monoxide when I started living in a parking garage, so I purchased a good quality air monitor. Since moving into the garage 4 months ago, I have never had a problem with carbon monoxide. My monitor has never registered any detectable levels of CO in the car. I did some research and found that building codes require parking garages to be well ventilated or have some type of air circulation system. That is to protect people entering and leaving the garages from hazardous fumes like CO. However, if anyone ever decides to live in their car in a garage, then I would recommend getting a CO monitor with an alarm.
      Thank you for watching the video, and thank you for taking the time to leave a thoughtful question.

    Call me crazy but I just use climate control for AC and/or heat. Nice and cool in summer and nice and warm in Minnesota winter. Dang $200/month. Think I’ll rather just use rest areas/planet fitness parking etc. good content though!

    • @livinginaprius
      @livinginaprius  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely agree. For over a year I simply parked on the street. However, when I moved back to Denver in the middle of winter, I decided to spend a little extra on the parking garage. It was -10 degrees at night here last week, but inside the parking garage the temperature only got down to 10 degrees (according to the "outside" temperature gauge on my dashboard) and the inside of the car only got down to 25 degrees. So, being in the garage helped keep my car 35 degrees warmer than the outside during the coldest part of winter. That being said, I don't like having to budget an extra $200 a months for the garage, but it is still much cheaper than paying rent.
      Thanks for watching the videos and leaving a comment. Good luck and safe travels!

    Any irritation from exhaust fumes?

    • @livinginaprius
      @livinginaprius  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, and the answer is no. I haven't had any issue with irritation from exhaust fumes. I specifically chose a parking garage that has good ventilation. I also have a couple of carbon monoxide monitors, and they have always shown 0 carbon monoxide inside of the car.

    Why not use the climate control ?

    • @livinginaprius
      @livinginaprius  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Prius climate control is a very valuable aspect of choosing a Prius for car living. And, I do use the climate control to warm/cool the car before I go to sleep and when I wake up. However, I like to be as efficient as I can (i.e., save gas), and stay stealthy at night (not drawing attention to my car), so I don't run the car when I am sleeping. I found that a good quality sleeping bag works great. I have a light sleeping bag for the summer and a thermal sleeping bag that keeps me warm down to 0 degrees (F) during the winter. When you live in your car, items that are designed for camping (like sleeping bags and sleeping pads / mats) are very helpful.

      I wonder if you could use a water circulation system (like vests that racers use) to cool yourself when it’s warm.
