Great Video... But I think everyone has been overlooking FAITH ARMOR ! Heal & Gain Armor, 20% ARMOR as well. Thoughts ?? I have been running this and it works very very well. Even if you heal another person in group..
I have no idea how these videos don't have more views. You're the reason I'm tanking mythic in the first place, and now I'm going to try on my pally as well, so thank you!
Awesome guide! Thank you! I’ve PvP’d on Holy Paladin for the last 2 or 3 expansions, and thanks to this video, I’m giving M+ a whirl as protection paladin! Much appreciated!
The only thing I could think to add is: Divine Toll in a group pack or if shit hits the fan is a GIANT absorb shield. Each Avenger's Shield it throws gives you an absorb equal to 60% of it's damage up to a cap of 30% of your max hp. There have been PLENTY of times where something went sideways and I had to drop my SotR buff for a split second to keep someone alive when a key is cutting it really close. Divine Toll is an Offensive AOE burst CD, a Snap Threat CD, a Mass Interrupt, AND can be used defensively to give yourself a big absorb to let everyone level out. People tend to forget that it CAN be used defensively, even though every Prot Paladin player pretty much knows it. We just never really think about it. Really great vid, perfect refresher for returning for S4. Subscribed
Historically speaking paladin outside of like vanilla and one patch in BFA was definitely a contender for best tank, wish my war brought more to group content.
True. Warrior was so dominant for the first two years of the game, but has probably been the weakest tank on average since then. Maybe the future will be better! It sure looks like it will be for Paladins!
Feels like they need to make warr a bit overhauled, not that i think it would go good. 😅 I love the playstyle of prot warr, really miss grp utility tho. But feels like it will be hard to give it in a good way. Maybe some kinda throw like 5 axes around into mobs head (make it work like palas mass interrupt?)
Thank you for this video! I've been looking to change off the Bear druid as I just want something a bit different. The struggle that I've been having is that it seems that my Pally isn't as tanky as Guard, but im glad you are able to dispell the myth. I started gearing my Bear in +20 keys at 465, and my 453 pally was procing cheats in a 18 ToTT this week, but its unfair to the paladin as ilvl definitely makes a big difference. I am excited to get it some gear so I can get back in the 20s!
Throne of the Tides will absolutely shread you with low gear; the bleed from the dogs is insane. Plus, Bear is so tanky with little gear, it is hard to compare the two as you have them now.
@@WoWatNightThis is the thing that I did not take into account, funny enough. It's hard to compare a class that requires ilvl, vs. one that scales much less efficiently with ilvl but is more effective up front. I've been comparing videos of +25 for keys and it seems like prot pally doesn't sustain much damage compared to the bear outside of incarn. I am going to be pushing the ilvl up so I can get an accurate comparison, but it seems like PPal is much better overall!
As someone who has gotten title several times, I'm a protection paladin main, so I thought I'd be pushing prot paladin this season, I was a bit late to the party and only started pushing keys 3 weeks ago, stuck at about 3600 RIO right now which is below the title cutoff... The queue has been... demoralizing. No invites, absolutely zero. VDH absolutely destroys Prot paladin in high keys and its not even close. 5% Magic dmg, Unlimited aoe stops and simply tankier on top of it. If you're doing +20s I would actually agree prot paladin in that environment is still the more pug friendly tank, you can snipe kicks you can off heal you can sac people, but what you can't do as prot paladin is set up some absolutely broken insane pulls and lock them down by yourself for 30 seconds. Protection paladin can do very high keys, but you're playing at a disadvantage, the disadvantage is bigger or smaller depending on the dungeons you're doing. There are some pulls that are straight up IMPOSSIBLE without a VDH tank, pulling 11 casters before the first boss in Everbloom, is literally impossible as protection paladin, there is no way to pull it off, so if you're playing competitively, there are some dungeons where you're basically playing at a 1-2 minute disadvantage on the timer, just because there's a few pulls you might not be able to pull off. Furthermore Protection paladin is way more comp restricted as to what classes you can play with. You're often forced to play with Havoc, which has its own weaknesses and you need a comp with a lot of aoe stops to compensate for the lack of yours. Blizzard opened the pandora's box with VDH this season, never in the games' history has a tank ever had this many stops, and been able to singlehandedly lock down a pack for 30 seconds. Sigil of silence -> Sigil of Chains -> Chaos Nova -> Evoker breath into 10 second Sigil of Silence -> Sigil of misery -> Sigil of Chains -> Sigil of misery -> Sigil of Silence (it's back by this point) Is just an insane sequence of aoe stops.
It's true. The level of CC VDH brings to competitive, high-level groups is absolutely unprecedented, and it could maybe, MAYBE, be balanced if it were target-capped in some way, but it isn't... so it isn't.
I dont think it should be target capped, I dont even think its necessarily bad that DH can lock down a pack but the CD and down time between the DH being able to lockdown packs is too short. CDR reduced and CD increased. I havent played enough VDH to tell you how often sigil of silence comes off cd, but its around 40-50 seconds, less with lust. If sigil of silence was actually 2 minutes and you could do a really long cc chain every 4 minutes, that would be a nice niche for VDH being able to do some incredible pulls every few minutes, the issue is they have this utility every pack instead of every 2nd or 3rd pack. So VDH could pull big caster packs around their cds the way bear pulls big packs around their incarn. I wouldnt take their new toys away because DH always felt like half a class in terms of buttons and utility so gutting it when it finally reaches that point where it has buttons would be bad, but the cdr reduced and cds of all these abilities need to be increased. Alternatively give e every other tank 3 more aoe stops to bring them up to par.
Paladin is in a crazy strong state atm, but people don't "notice or care" because VDH is still that much stronger than Paladin. I love my Paladin and recognize they are strong as hell, but VDH's toolkit and control are just on another level. A good VDH can basically solo a dungeon while self healing, pumping out insane aoe damage, and make sure that dangerous packs don't do anything for 10+ seconds.
Excellent video mate! I'm a ret player but am looking at getting into tanking and your video is very informative. I noticed you've got macros there. Have you macrod shield of righteous into blessed hammer and judgement?
Thanks! All the macros in this video are just alt-mod macros, to help with fitting more keybinds into fewer total action bar spaces. You *could* macro some skills together, but that's probably not a great idea since there may be points where you want to hold onto HoPo to cast WoG, and if you have SotR macro'ed into other skills you may inadvertently spend that HoPo instead.

Dude... Consecration is badass. Are people complaining? Why would you be bothered having to use spells. It's not all mindless rotations. Rotation slaving is for DPS. As tank you use what's needed. Same as healer but more proactive. Consecration is a perfect example of what tanking is. Honestly using it every time you move is great

Yeah! Hes my go-to every time i try out a new tank! :D and we both share the love for our pala tanks! ❤️ :D
Too many mods can’t see any game play.
It is astounding how many videos I had to go through to find a good explanation on how to pull. As a new tank, you have my gratitude and subscription!

You guessed it.
a true prot pally has 1 defensive spell..... and no one wants to see the tank in a bubble.....
Dunno about that.
