  • I decided to make a video describing one of the types of seizures that I experience regularly with temporal lobe epilepsy. Feeling a bit crumby so forgive my appearance but DO remember to subscribe! Raising awareness one video at a time 💜💪💜

Thank you for sharing. I have a daughter with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and people keep thinking she has behaviour problems or needs a Psych. Helping me understand how you feel helps a lot. My daughter has disabilities and cannot articulate as well as yourself. Stay brave, you help and support people by sharing.

I’ve only had these experiences when i was a child, and in my late teens. For me it started with a normal feeling of dejavu, but then very quickly just pulls you into what in that moment feels like real dream memories you’ve had and you remember everything about it. Then boom, it’s gone, and you just feel like you came back from a different plane of existence

Omg you are literally the 1st person who was ever able to explain what happens to me!! Mine sometimes wake me up in the middle of the night and are super scary. Sometimes they happen in the middle of the day and I try to tell people what it feels like and they look at me like I'm nuts. To me it feels like DeJa vu mixed with remembering my dreams and they're usually the scariest dream ever I'm remembering and it feels like I'm in actual hell. I always say "I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy." I also get visual auras where its like there's a ripple in my vision. Usually that goes away only if I go in a dark room for like a half hour with silence like a migraine. Super scary and I'm sorry you go through the deja vu part too.

Same here, had it since I was a child and referred to it as “deja vu seizures”. My parents didn’t see it as something serious either, but I got checked for epilepsy two years ago In order to figure it out but they found nothing. I think this type of epilepsy isn’t very researched on and there’s little knowledge about it sadly.

Mr. Awesome Cat Fuzzypants I kept it to myself for years. I started noticing a pattern in all of it but I still had a difficult time trying to describe it out loud. I would tell my family about it but it never sounded serious to warrant their concern, just ‘hmmm that’s weird’. I felt like I was seeing a dream in my head of something I felt like I dreamed before. Everything felt like it had happened before. Sometimes there would be words or phrases I was hearing in this dream state but I couldn’t even tell you what I was hearing. As it would come on, I would suddenly get very hot and slowly I’d feel sick in the pit of my stomach. And this overwhelming sense of doom would rise and it was terrifying while it was happening. Some are worse than others but when it’s happening, it feels like the world is ending. I would also smell a weird smell that I couldn’t describe either. Then as suddenly as it came on, it would go away. For years, I just figured it was something I would just live with and manage them by fanning myself until it was over. I didn’t really tell the doctors because it honestly just sounds crazy. Some people thought I was just having a panic attack but I knew that wasn’t it. One day I decided to google search exactly what I described to you, and I found temporal lobe epilepsy. My self diagnosis was eventually confirmed and an MRI showed that I have scar tissue on my temporal lobe which is what is causing the seizures. I can’t tell you exactly what triggers the seizures but I know stress, stimulants like caffeine and sometimes certain lighting trigger them. I notice I have them more often around my menstrual cycle as well.

I am seeing multi familiar things also...But it is a common thing...1/3 of the world have it...But we are the safest ones...We are lucky to have it because we have the warning from our inner intuition and that allows us to be protected and in a very safe place...That's how auras attack.

i suddenly get deja vu and a sudden roller coaster feeling that makes me feel nauseous and hot for a minute. while it happens i kinda stop in my tracks. the tiles on my floor and sometimes the lighting in the room or the smell might trigger me. it feels like im put into a dream (but i cant even remember when i had the dream or if i even had it). it goes away after 2 minutes at the most but after i have it i try thinking about what actually happened and i cant describe it to anyone. the 2 worst parts are the nausea and the fact that i feel i cant really go to the doctor and get a proper treatment if the doctor is incompetent and that itll get worse and i lose my memory and stuff

I've been watching youtube videos of every topic imaginable for years and this is the best one I've ever watched because I don't feel alone or crazy anymore. Describing it to anyone is so difficult, and I'm good with words. Thank you so much for taking the time to verbalize the sensations because, I know all too well, it is so hard to do. The way you describe it is exactly how I experience it. I'm not on medication and haven't seen anyone about it because, though I've had them for years, I can go months without them. Anyway, thank you so much for giving me someone I can point to and say, hey, look, she has them, too.

I appreciate the way you tell it as being "injected into a dream" and the "story set up" is a perfect description. Unknowing I had epilepsy, when I was younger I'd describe it "I'm going back into an old forgotten dream, I've been here before, but it was in a dream". I called them flashbacks. I always tell my wife that it's like i remember all the dreams I ever had and that its so scary that if these really are my dreams, that I dream this much. Also, whats really odd with me is sometimes at night when I dream, I literally feel like I'm in the dream for like months or even years. I wake up and its like I was in a coma for years or something and it really freaks me out bad.

I'm getting an EEG because of videos like this that so intelligently described something so similar to my experience. Infected into a dream does describe these episodes I have of sudden dream recall and it's a lot like those deja Vu feelings and sometimes they're followed by a sudden sense of impending doom. I feel like something is messing with my head sometimes. But it has to be like this And I wonder if they'll have me do a sleep deprived EEG or how it all works. I'm nervous but I want answers.

Best description I've ever heard. I've had "deja vu " as long as I can remember. I was told that it was because I'm an old soul and have been reincarnated many times. Then I explained it to mt neurologist after my first public seizure and he explained that it was an aura. My wife takes video and talks to him for me since I very rarely remember anything. Apparently I have a few different types. It is scary and I'm not legally allowed to drive making life even more difficult and scary. But I wouldn't want to put others in danger either.

Everything you said is so accurate to what I get. How you explained it as you feel misplaced and not in the real world sense. Also, how it is so familiar and nearly like you’ve been their in a past life
I haven’t been diagnosed but I have just turned 18 and I can remember having these ‘flashbacks’ or as my dad calls it ‘déjà vu’ moments for years. I feel as though mine come from things that trigger something inside me, I can feel it starting and a majority of the times I can stop it, sometimes I can’t stop it and sometimes if I feel safe and in the right place I let it be. But, it is scary! If I’m alone I feel as though something is going to take me away from this life, I hear voices and think I see these imaginary characters nearly like people are trying to abduct me and I feel as though I might die. I also feel as though when I get this that I am fully aware and not impaired, so I can do anything and I’m able to do everything but it feels like sometimes I’m not in control of my body and it feels as though something will happen. For example, today I had one and it was when my father was driving me to go to dinner, it happened randomly with no tell tail signs and I felt as though I was going to jump out of the car(even though I wasn’t and didn’t have the urge to) but it was like someone was trying to control me. I don’t know if anyone can relate but I’d love to hear what you guys have to say as it is something I am coming to terms with and trying to understand. The most important part is that I am in control and most of the times I can fight it when I feel the sensation start.

I'm 55, writing from Italy. I've tried to describe this stuff for 40 years. Those 'crisis' started when I was 15, in 1979. They went on for 5 or 6 years, then stopped for a while and came back when I was 24. After a couple of years they were gone. Sometimes I still can 'smell' them coming, but they don't. I seem to remember a parrot and and a white corridor, the feeling of deja vu was unpleasant but I had to go through it all, there was something irresistible. After each crisis (sometimes 4 or 5 every day) I felt exhausted and sweaty and all the 'dreamy images' were instantly impossible for me to remember. I'm very touched by your video: after 40 years I've found someone able to tell my story. Thank you, and sorry for my bad english.

I'm conscious throughout and can speak etc just very confused and find it hard to string a sentence together. I get the 'dreamland' feeling u describe too where I can be sat in my house and know exactly where I am just everything seems very strange and a little unfamiliar. I've have an MRI and EEG with no luck of diagnosis so far. I assume it is from a traumatic brain injury i sustained when I was 10 years old. Maybe from, like you, scar tissue on temporal lobe.

My first episode of 'extreme de ja vu' started last year. I hate explaining it to people because they probably think I'm crazy. But it's as if you're remembering a dream, like it really happened, over and over again throughout the day and your brain is just adding extra elements to this dream, sort of like dreaming when your awake? alongside your stomach rising and feeling sick, sort of like the feeling in your stomach when you go on a rollacoaster.
I had a brain scan last year which appearently showed no abnormalities. I had another set of episodes a month ago, Dr refusing to see me as they literally care about covid only right now. Today they've happened again, I feel silly but I've had a good cry, because I find it so scary and I know if I ring the Dr's monday they will fob me off again. They don't seem to understand my symptoms 😞.

I feel silly for wanting to try for disability, but it has become more than just a temporary thing. After they happen, I’m no good. I’m exhausted and weak. I have three babies, so I have to just go go go. But the thought of working a job and holding down a job seems impossible. Even one less physically demanding because of how bad these have made my memory. I’m constantly forgetful and struggling with holding a decent conversation.
I’m stuck between even trying. I feel like since it’s not constant grand mal seizures that DDS would laugh at me for even attempting.

When I first started having temporal lobe seizures I had this same feeling compounded with a very strong smell. Over the years my auras changed to more of a strong thought or memory, if I give in to thinking of this thought or memory I have a seizure. Sometimes I'm able to avoid them if I change my thought process, like start singing a song or anything to get the urge to think of what I'm trying to remember out of mind. I know it sounds strange and I don't know anyone who has this type of memory or thought aura.

I know exactly what you're talking about; I get an almost identical series of events when I'm having an "aura". When I get one, I tend to get several a day, hours apart, for a few days. I can't properly communicate; my family has learned that, when I'm silent and start making random repetitive movements, something is up, and they keep an eye on me. It's terrifying and simultaneously fascinating.

Thank you so much for sharing what you experience in those symptoms or what my doctor call as "auras". It just made me realize that I really am not exaggerating for the same feelings like deja vu and that "injected into a dream" feeling until this time. Though my medications have decreased my generalized seizures, these auras are still in me. Hope we get through this together.

I'm also epileptic (tonic-clonic seizure) since 11th of February, 2019 and the journey is really is really difficult and feels pessimistic most of the times. Because of the insecurity you feel that doesn't let you believe on your oneself..Better if you note down the triggers, situations and things that triggers seizure can be easily avoided. And please set your diet plan, its really effective.

This is exactly my life. I live alone and before treatment, I had an avg of 6-8 complex partial temporal lobe seizures a day. I've tried several meds and am on three right now but the game changer was the ketogenic diet. Now, I only have clusters every 2 weeks or so. Rarely, they generalize. My advice: get all new kitchenware that has automatic shut off, e.g., pressure cookers, toaster ovens, quick boil kettles, etc.; get on the keto diet; get to know all of your neighbors; carry at least two days worth of your meds, 8ncluding rescue meds with you (you can get spare bottles with correct labels from your pharmacy), wear a medical bracelet, and keep a journal of every aura & sz you have in your phone's calendar.

I'm searching the answer of my condition for years. And at last I found this video of yours. Mine just kinda mild I guess. I experience this weird deja vu maybe twice or thrice a year. Everytime it attacks me it feels like I don't feel myself and I'm deafening like it's really like a dream. Then things start to look even more weirder. I can predict the sentence which the person/people around me talk about. Pretty weird, really. What's more weird is that the sentence they spoke is exactly what the people spoke the last time I had an extreme deja vu. I don't know how I did it. Later on I can feel that it's very hot around me and I'm starting to sweat a lot. Then I feel like I want to sleep, my body's so tired like I wanna rest. Really weird. Hope I can counsult a doctor soon cause I'm really worried about my condition even it just occurs twice or thrice a year.

I like the way you described the experience, because when I attempt to it doesn't go so well, and I too end up sounding like some raving lunatic.
Question : after the deja vu, I experience this MASSIVE wave of euphoria that consumes my entire body. It is actually a very enjoyable experience if it weren't for the mystery of it all. I want to know if you or others get this wave as I do.

That is new and, what is oddest about it, is that it is still with me two days later. I just feel happy, more in the moment, sensing my surroundings more. Anyway, I'm glad that you mentioned euphoria because no one else did.

I had a weird dream about two months ago that felt pretty realistic. It wasn’t until about a couple weeks later that the dream came true, and ever since I’ve been reliving the dream. So I’ve been experiencing constant deja vu for the past few weeks. Ever since then I’ve been afraid to do anything because I’ve been scared that something bad is going to happen to me. I’ve been trying to figure out why I’ve been feeling this way, and I just now learned about temporal lobe epilepsy. After reading all the symptoms of this, I believe I have it. I’m now 20 years old and I just moved out from my moms house. I’ve told her and my father about this, but they haven’t really said anything about it. I’m really not sure what I need to do about it. I know I should go to the doctor, but I’m unemployed right now due to covid and I do not have insurance. So I do not have the money right now to even go to the doctor.

You are describing exactly what I felt as a teen when I would have a LOT of these 'episodes'. I was taken to a doctor and they did a EKG brain scan thing but nothing ever came out of it. I remember actually passing out once and luckily my friend was there because I hit my head when I fell. I had to lay down for hours afterwards I was so tired. But when they weren't that bad I remember that feeling of being hot towards the end of each episode and afterwards. The uneasy feeling during it of approaching doom, but also that everything was very familiar and also feeling numb to everything. I had never heard the term Temporal lobe epilepsy until now. I hardly have any episodes now (I think) but my memory has gotten way worse over the years.

If you've ever felt one of these you should pull an all nighter and then go in for an EEG. I came a cunt hair away from literally dying one day because I almost drove home from work because I was having "panic attacks" but someone else drove me home. I had a grand mal seizure in the car, the "panic attacks" were focal seizures in the temporal lobe.

I’ve had one déjà vu seizure that I can remember. It was really really weird. Like I can’t even describe that feeling. I get a lot of the ones where it’s like when you have one of those dreams that you think you’re awake and all of a sudden things get really eerie I will be disoriented like I can see like my eyes are open and I can see their things around me, but they just don’t process. another annoying one is the sudden fear like when you’re dreaming and you have done everything you would have when you woke up but then you kind of feel startled like something is very wrong because it starts out like that and then then I kinda start over really bad.

I had an MRI yesterday. Ive had depersonalization and derealization all through highschool and anxiety and depression. My mom says its anxiety but lately I feel very weird. What I experience is almost like an acid trip... things distort and look like a fishbowl lense. I get extremely paranoid. Straight lines look wavy or grow amd shrink. Things look close and far away, change from 2D to 3D. I get extreme vertigo. I then can hear voices and wierd intrusive thoughts like sometimes ill wake up from a nightmare that feels like I've had it before a long time ago and my body will feel tingly and wirey and electrical. And my head will feel loud and scary. They can be my voices or other peoples voices. And I will have wierd thoughts like pandas like pickles and theres a girl in a red cloak out on the sidewalk. Why is she out on the sidewalk? Legit word sallad in my brain. I just think up random words and sentences and it is tiring. And sometimes I will laugh and cry and get super tired and drool. And I can feel my eyes blink a lot, I see weird colors when I close my eyes and patterns and faces that are scary. I know they aren't real. I thought i was schizophrenic so I didn't tell my doc at first. I thought it was then sleep paralysis but that doesn't last off and on for 3 hours and me being delirious and conscious. Cuz like it also happens during the day. Ive also had convulsing and tics in my hands and shoulders or head that I cant control. I feel like I'm legit going crazy. Im always so tired and confused after they happen and I want to sleep. It could be siezures. I dont know. Time will tell?

I started having these déjà vu feelings myself and as an added weird bonus I have recurring feelings that it’s Christmas or 1989, these feel similar to the déjà vu like it’s a very real memory or dream (but it’s not) and I feel strongly that it’s Christmas or 1989. Sometimes it’s sort of the opposite where everything seems unfamiliar like my surroundings don’t seem recognizable even though I am somewhere that I should definitely be familiar. Sometimes these things happen after a brief period of just feeling kind of weird like I know somethings about to happen. I have multiple sclerosis and I had a severe relapse with several new brain lesions and after I told my doctor this had started he is ordering an EEG because he thinks I may be having temporal lobe seizures. Such a strange feeling. I had no idea it could be seizures because I didn’t realize something could be a seizure without the person losing consciousness and things like that.

Thanks for sharing. I have these experiences too, although thankfully nothing further than partial seizures but can relate to how you describe it. For me i can feel it coming on and can’t stop it and almost willingly try and make it happen which it’s strange in itself. it’s very much like deja vu, but more like I’m remembering a very vivid dream or an old movie or tv programme which I’ve been inserted into, and I’m trying to understand it and then it starts to fade and after I can’t rememberer it. It’s then followed by a strong sweet smell sensation and I feel nauseous and totally out of it. When I get my episodes I tend to have 3 or 4 in a day, but it only seems to happen to me once or twice a year. I don’t know what brings it on, but it’s maybe when I’m feeling stressed, haven’t had enough sleep or feeling down. It kinda wipes me out for a couple of days and gives me pounding headaches. Once I had an episode whilst at work and someone asked me a question and I wanted to speak but physically couldn’t. It’s so hard describing this to people so thanks for the video

I absolutely have this too. It's impossible to explain, it feels strange yet soothing in a strange way I'll sometimes see people from my past when it goes deep ( not every time) and I'll recognize them when it's happening but not after it ends I know I recognized someone but not who it was.
Sometimes hours later I'll have a horrible headache, it took me a long time to realize they were connected. I always say to my wife, that deja vu thing is happening even though it's not deja vu it's the closest way I can explain it. I don't get seizures but I do suffer from vertigo. I've had many of these over time. My pet name for them has always been "whim-whams", but they are just what you're describing. It's always felt to me like a nocturnal-style dream (not a mere daydream) was invading my waking consciousness. Yes, it's dream-like, and yes, it's very familiar-seeming with a powerful sense of deja vu. Yet, when it's over, it's difficult if not impossible to remember anything about it, other than the knowledge that I just had one. I don't lose consciousness or awareness, and can even carry on conversations when it's happening. Turns out I had severe obstructive sleep apnea, and probably wasn't dreaming very much at night. The whim-whams almost felt like my brain hadn't dreamt enough of late, and was forcibly "dreaming" a bit while I was awake. I ended up on CPAP, and the frequency of these whim-whams decreased dramatically. Years later, for restless leg syndrome, I began a regimen of gabopentin. With both CPAP and gabopentin, these phenomena are now extremely rare. Hope you find a path away from these episodes. Stay well!

Had these for lot of my life / throughout childhood. Sometimes would get a jamais vue feeling where I knew where I was logically but an unfamiliar feeling would wash over me.
After being quite depressed for some time this got much worse and for a couple years I started to lose consciousness during these episodes. I would stick my hands in food and mumble to myself or others, and peed my pants a few times, would come out of it with no recollection.
I took seizure and anti depressant meds for about a year. But eventually stopped taking all meds and have had ZERO symptoms or recurrence in about 6 years. What worked for me was a. Generally working on my mental health and b. Deliberately focusing on the moment and forcing my mind away from falling into that dreamy state whenever I felt something coming on.
I hope it never comes back, those were scary times. Good luck to all of you coping with this experience.

I've been having this experience since I was 10. I have maybe 2-4 episodes per year. I first had this experience when I got pneumonia for the first time and find it seems to happen most often when I am either sick or falling asleep or just waking up. Intense deja...extreme deja vu. I feel like I keep feeling or experiencing a story or dream that I have had for my entire life. It's almost like my conscience is showing me everything or every piece of knowledge in the world...my past, present, future. I feel like I have done this all before. There are images of people or a person that I can't put my finger on once it's over. It's amazing and horrific at the same time. My mind backpedals out of it out of fear I guess. I don't have the twitching during or after, but when it's over I can't remember what I want to explain and I often feel foggy as hell and nauseous. I went to my mom crying as a child and she started describing the exact same thing. Turns out she and my great grandmother share this. My takes more of a psychic element to it than a disruptive physical one. I wish I could explain it better but I've never really been able to fully describe what I want to say because what exactly happens during these episodes...I forget and cant describe. Maybe this isn't what I have, I have been searcing for people who experience similar.

I would be so confident that I would be able to explain the "dream" but of course I couldn't! :) One aspect of my seizures is that my brain would make connections between objects that I could see in the room and random words or concepts that would come into my head. My rational mind would be saying "there's no connection there" but the "seizure" part of my brain was telling me that it was reminding me of these connections from past experiences or dreams. I'm 12 years seizure free but I can remember about as much about them as if I had one yesterday.

I get these too… sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes months apart. When I’m aware they are happening I try to recall details of the “dream” I’m recollecting. Last time I remembered some blond guy in it. In other ones, a darker skinned person (Mexican? Asian)? I also seem to remember some directional decision needing to be made in the dream, and maybe motorcycles or a space ship. Is it the same “dream” every time? I don’t know but I think it is. It’s amazing for the few seconds I’m having these, I remember with total clarity, but then it goes away and I can’t remember anything. The stronger ones leave me feeling warm, somewhat sweaty, and nauseated (sometimes I notice a salty smell too) but there is nothing upsetting about the dream, it’s just a reaction to the deja vu episode itself. Fortunately for me these only last a few seconds, I’ve mentioned these episodes to my doctor but I’m not compelled to do anything about them. This has been going on for 20 years and hasn’t gotten worse.

I have episodes where I can remember a dream from years ago and it goes into deja vu often

Mine happened to me at the worst time , it happened when I was playing Battlefield 4 which is a military shooter game , when it happened I thought I was being shoot at and chased by tanks and helicopters it was very scary and intense, the next morning i went to see myself in the mirror and my face was all covered in bruises and cuts , I'm now taking convulex and sleep better, haven't had any seizure in weeks
