Erythromycin production

Erythromycin is an antibiotic use for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections.
It cannot be used to treat viral infections.
Erythromycin is a macrolide ( slow down the growth or kill the sensitive bacteria by reducing the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria for its survival ) shows a antimicrobial spectrum similar to or slightly wider than that of penicillin.
It's was first discovered in the year 1952 by McGuire and his co-workers from a strain of streptomyces erythreus.
