Former organic chemist here… To explain what’s going on for all those wondering, this is a routine acid-base extraction of an alkaloid which in this case is the penicillin byproduct from the mold produced on the agar in the first scenes. Diethyl ether is then poured in to extract the penicillin into it and then filtered under vacuum filtration with a Büchner funnel. Acidified water is then added which separates into two layers also known as phases. This then forms the acid salt of penicillin, most notably the hydrochloride or sulfate. The diethyl ether now only contains the impurities left behind as the penicillin is dissolved in the water layer also known as the aqueous phase. The diethyl ether dirty brown liquid is then being disposed of in the bathtub looking apparatus. Clean ether is then added to the acidified water phase containing the penicillin salt and then the PH is made alkaline with and what I’m assuming is sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, or a similar base. The mixture is then agitated to dissolve the penicillin free base in the ether which is then filtered off again, centrifuged to speed up the separation process, and this leaves the reddish/brown liquid phase with the crude amoxicillin base in it.
Although not shown here, this crude base is then recrystallized from another solvent to leave pure penicillin. This is no government secret and is widely available online in hundreds of thousands of different chemistry and pharmaceutical patents for antibiotics.

@@mkzhero The issue is Facebook crusty moms shitting up the searches with their woowoo quackery. When you search making penicillin you find how to make colloidal silver and weird broths that'll probably make you shit yourself to death.

    This is a routine acid-base extraction : Penicillin *SUB-TITLES*
(*this is wrong, but the idea is correct so I'm going to leave it*)
0:06 - Penicillium mold is produced on the agar
0:17 - Filter unrefined penicillin via filtration with a Büchner funnel
0:42 - Extraction poured into separatory funnel
0:53 - Equal parts ether is added as solvent
1:28 - Add acidic water (HCl Dilute). Mix and let sit
2:01 - Discard bottom layer (ether) - contains impurities
2:28 - Collect remaining aqueous layer - contains the goods
2:43 - Place aqueous into a centrifuge (the spinny jawn)
-:-- - Decant off the top aqueous layer and discard bottom layer
3:07 - Clean ether/NaOH mixed with aqueous layer (PH is alkaline)
    3:22 - Mixed (without venting?)
    3:39 - Keep BOTTOM LAYER

@@patrickkresnik7822 This is about the same process for Sialic Acid seen in "Ruth Goodman Victorian Pharmacy", in one of the later episodes. Good watch imho

    To make things very simple;
Penicillin is a naturally occurring antibiotic found in the mould that grows on foods such as bread and melon. However, the food mould on its own only contains small amounts of Penicillin. As such, the process to create pure Penicillin involves extracting the parts of the food mould that have higher concentrations of Penicillin (the yellow and olive green mould), reproducing that yellow/yellow-ish mould en-masse, then using various techniques as shown in the video to take that yellow mould and have only pure Penicillin remain.
This pill is especially effective at treating bacterial infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis.

Goverment doesn't want you to know the process of making own penicillin. It would ruin it's upper hand. Goverments should work for people, not against them.

True. Though most people would rather buy penicillin than making their own.
