Our estate here in the UK used to suffer surface flooding from the water running off the fields and not being able to soak through the hard packed clay before getting to the houses. They solved this by bringing in a drilling rig and putting holes every 100 yards and filling them with gravel to allow the saturated ground to drain through the clay layer. We've not had any flooding since they done that.
Nice weather on this property today, good for the dig. 😁😎 Well, it all looks great so far. 😊👍 Chris, I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. Put your feet up, eat something nice and relax. You work too much and deserve a few relaxing, stress-free days❣️ 🤗🎄🎁 Of course I wish you all a Merry Christmas with your loved ones. ☺️🎄
Poor snapping turtle, getting woken from its slumber by a big, monstrous yellow beast like that. 😉 It honestly still surprises me how well that clay will pack down, no matter many times I have seen you do it on here Chris. Can't wait to see you putting this culvert in.
Well, I just discovered your channel and OMG, I'm hooked. Have been watching non stop for two days. I've got to figure out how to watch them in order of occurrence though. I know absolutely NOTHING about construction, but you are really good at what you are doing. Many thanks. (Dalton Georgia)
Holy cow, those famous words I have been waiting a year or more to hear......" big ol snappin turtle"..... you are the man Chris, you are the man!!!!!!
Very many thanks Chris for all your interesting and enjoyable videos I have watched over the past year. A merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and all yours. Best wishes from Bonnie Scotland. Stay safe and well.
Chris, I'd like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas. I'd also like to thank you for providing us with great entertainment and teaching us about your line of work. I've run equipment a thousand years ago but I learn from you each time I watch. Thanks again and Merry,Merry.
WOW that Volvo is savage the way it snapped the tree at 12:00 I will pray for so dry dirt for next year Chris ;-) Hope you and family have a great Christmas, I look forward to you new videos, big love from Emma in the UK!
Yeah, those last few loads of clay packed real good !! Got that hard shine to it... Coming right on along !! Great always Chris !! Have a Great evening Man, And On to the Next ....or back to the creek....lololol....
I hope you have a safe and happy merry Christmas 🎄 Chris and I am looking forward to seeing you in the 2021 season of the amazing Chris.......stay safe:-)
Chris, Merry Christmas to you and your workmates!!🎁. Thanks for a great year, and am looking forward to 2021!🎄 Man a load of that blasted rock from the animal hospital would come in handy there! Maybe.😏Happy New Year also.
I wonder what the very first guy said when a skid steers showed up? That's a strong and nimble machine. I think they ought to invite you to Gold Rush. Love to see you wear out one of those machines.
Up Here in NY the encon people want a pipe embedded into the stream bed about 20% allowing the bottom of the pipe to fill in to stream level with soil to help all aquqtic life pass thru.
Yeah that is some damn good packing dirt it’s got the right moisture content in it but anyway Chris another great video brother you and John stay safe and keep the videos coming. Merry Christmas and happy new year to y’all
Now that's a road that will be there. A lot better than just dumping a load or two of crush on top of the grass and calling it a road. After a good rain it turns to mush and you have nothing that resembles a road. Good work as always Chris.
That pipe is Hugh man lol.john looked small as he stood next To it and rolled it down lol.all that clay man as far as the eye Can see. That is some nice hard compacting clay there. U dont find that Here anywhere lol.u could almost use the clay for molding 😉. Cant wait To See how that Hugh pipe is gonna be fitted. Nice video Chris and stay safe.😀
I guess the bottom of the creek is harder than the surrounding area because the water has already "excavated" all the soft stuff where it flows. That creek is showing you how deep you would have to undercut to get to good dirt in that area.
Have you ran the new 160 long enough to see what the fuel consumption is compared to the old one. This new one seems to rev a lot higher being a four cylinder ,it's like so many smaller newer engines that make the same ,or more power than the older models ,but have to rev way higher to do so ,anyway time will tell .Cheers from down under.
You ever get into trouble running x roads with putting tires or anything down for tracks? We unloaded a d4 dozer off side like that, never crossed road but one track marked up asphalt and the hiways guys stopped, took pics and called us in lol
I was unloading my track loader on the high side of the road and had to cross to my lot, HP and DOT drove up just as i got onto dirt. Nothing they could do about it since all i did was white spot the asphalt where the tracks went over it
In all of the times of stupid political crap, yammering news casters, BS lies and stupid covid garbage. Your channel is one of the oh so many few that bring me relief. Thank you, Chris and your family! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!
@@marcwohlmayer7897 after Chris grades the new clay down to the creek. If you look that puddle you see a black object. I think thats what Chris was talking a turtle. Well my best guess.
Jesus if we tracked the excavator straight over a road here in the uk without some old tyres under the tracks the council would be straight out to gives us some real headaches!!!👍🏻🙈🙈🤘🏻🇬🇧
It'll be interesting to see how much fill goes around and on top of that culvert. I'd imagine you would want to fill the dip as much as you can to have a level road, so a good couple of feet on top of that culvert.
run a chisel plow deep th break the hadrpan layer at the bottom of whatever swale you put in, you get seep drainage all the time, and the swale handles the storm runoff into the creek. Or just plow in draintile above the hard pan by the road
Didn't the Snapping turtle [24:16] appreciate your design of his new beach you're building, Chris? But they are a little bit grumpy even at Christmas time! Haha
Chris, I was just wondering, with all that back n forth, on the skid steer, how often do you have to change oil? Or do you just do a filter change and add oil?
This has to be eastern North Carolina with that swamp sand soil, so glad i live north central NC where it can rain and 30min later i can drive thru my yard lol. At worst its 3-4” of topsoil then good dirt
Starting to work out great and looking good, can't wait to see you set the pipe 👍
Watching your videos is like watching a TV series, waiting for the next episode. Keeps you sitting glued to the screen.

"They" did? Just in time for "They"stmas!
Better let Tom Pemberton know about that.

With all that rocky dirt. You never worry about water causing trouble.
If the turtle doesn't move, I can see a Volo air lift to a safe zone.

If only John had jumped on that pipe and walked it down that wee slope. He'd have been the coolest man on TH-cam for the rest of this year.
I need a drought next year. I have a leaking pond dam I need to fix. A drought would help out tremendously.

It's not far from the animal hospital job, so its somewhere north of Raleigh (the animal hospital job is like 10 miles northeast of Raleigh, if that.)
At least sandy clay topsoil over clay is very good for growing crops. Not for building roads! :D Merry Christmas!
It looks like the same muck that you recently dredged out of those two ponds.
What do you think of natural spring water please do your best to save
Do you have a update on the pond you started and buried the truck 😁
Just curious why y’all put a metal culvert instead of a double wall plastic?
Cost and availability of plastic pipe that size.
