    You must be the only guy I know who tears down fantastic scenery only to put up more fantastic scenery all in a short time span. Always love your updates.

      Thanks David. Most think I'm nuts as at this rate I will never finish the layout. My philosophy is that layouts aren't for finishing... they are to keep you occupied!! Cheers! -grant

    Very cool idea to have that train haul out all those "cut down" trees. Very impressed with how they prepped all those trunks. :). Quite the workforce, there!

    Have not watch your channel I awhile….. your story line from forestry permits to log train makes a believable story line. Keep up the great work!!!!

    Great move on that scenery mod! Loved how you worked some story telling and running trains mixed in with the actual work on the scenery. I never get tired of watching your videos... your layout is the best!

    Always enjoy the videos. Long trains are great in N scale if you have the space. I'm around 23 to 28 fifty foot cars. I run way over powered three 6 axle units or four 4 axle units. I try to copy the head end power for the SP & ATSF in the mid 90's. I just cannot copy the entire train in my space.

    • @SouthernAlbertaRail

      The mid 90's is a great era to model. New Santa Fe Super-fleet units everywhere mixed with blue and yellow. Thanks for tuning in. Cheers. grant

    I love how you make your own fun with remodelling. I've probably commented on this before but I'm going to use your scenery techniques for my layout which will be set in southern BC.

    • @SouthernAlbertaRail
      @SouthernAlbertaRail  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fun is what it's all about!! What part of southern BC are you modelling? Humbled that you are looking to employ my methods. If you really want to get into scenery technique maybe have a peek at what I offer my members. Happy Holidays to you and family! -grant

    I like the idea of presenting this using actual traffic as context and in references. This is such a real railway to me and it helps communicate your vision for changes like these when we’re kept in that frame.
    And seeing those SD40’s (maybe dash-2’s? Sorry) on the log train was terrific.
    I’m sure you mentioned this elsewhere and me and my Etch-a-Sketch memory are failing me but seeing that former caboose trailing the log train caused me to wonder how many of these vans are left on the SAR as shoving platforms?
    And then I thought: does the SAR maintain its own maintenance car fleet? Bunk cars and similar support equipment?
    I can see I’m wandering. Sorry for the tangents-I’ll go get the coffee on.
    Chris

    • @SouthernAlbertaRail
      @SouthernAlbertaRail  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions Chris. The railroad has 3 vans left in service. sar has it's own ballast cars (for now) and some side dumps. No bunk cars but that is something I have been thinking of modelling. There is a Jordan Spreader on the roster and I want to build up a wedge plow when time allows. I have several 200 ton crane models on the shelf that have been patiently waiting for me to hack up but I think a heavy road chassis crane would be a better fit. Glad you enjoyed the video, think I'll join you for coffee! Cheers. -grant

  • @kenk2345

    Perhaps that lower elevation profile makes the rock formations and track curve around them a bit more unnatural? The tracks most certainly would been laid straighter by excavating out that small outcropping, no?

    • @SouthernAlbertaRail
      @SouthernAlbertaRail  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily Ken. The track in the area follows the path of least resistance at minimum expense and has seen only minor revisions over the years. The major one taking place back in the 80's as a result of dam construction and the need to replace a steel trestle over the Castle River. Great question and observation. Cheers. -grant

    I just found your channel and I am hoping to build my first "real" layout (more than just laying down some Kato track on the table with my boys). Do any of your videos show your room and how you have it laid out? Just trying to get ideas for a layout. Like what you have, running a single line it looks like along a 2 foot ledge, or do something bigger like a big 4x8 with some wings. Thanks! I have about a 10x11 room I can do it in and was think of a "U" shape.

    • @SouthernAlbertaRail
      @SouthernAlbertaRail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you found your way over. You're best bet would be to check out the layout tour video. It will give you a better impression as to how the layout fits in the basement. If you can get your hands on a November '21 Railroad Model Craftsman there is a full track plan featured. Most of the layout is less than a foot wide along the walls and 6 feet wide at the ends of peninsulas. The backdrop limits the modelled space though giving the impression of a shelf style layout throughout. I have a members side of the channel that covers all kinds of tips a and tricks if you're interested. Sounds like you're going to have a blast with your boys! Cheers. -grant
