  • Bringing back the gasser! I am planning on making some changes to the frame but I needed to have it together to see what I need to do. The RC4wd V8 gets assembled and some mods added and mocked up with the chassis.

    if you bend the front links at the axle end it will rotate the beam axle round its centre line so you can get the correct geometry, always interesting watching your builds

      @@Johnny_Guitar won't need much of a bend, anneal them with heat first and should be fine, i have done it before no problems but is just a suggestion

    GASSER!! I've been wondering.
    I have a scratch build Gasser project on my kitchen table
    Have never built a crawler but bought a couple of frame rail sets, some cross members a beam axle for a 1/14th truck and leaf spring sets and a narrow crawler rearend with beeftube inserts. My chassis solution was to turn the chassis backwards. Using 4mm thick composite frame rails they were inexpensive and very strong.
    Straight end of chassis has the spring paks and straight axle. The arched end of the chassis a four link setup with the narrow crawler axle. Will likely end up with steering servo on left side frame rail with a link going to right side idler arm to clear leaf springs. Shocks, motor, gearbox driveshaft all pending. axles frame mocked up and screwed together knowing it will likely have to come apart again. This is hard, but not impossible.
    Thanks for posting this! It was a reminder that I have a free evening- BUILD!!!
    Your front tire/rim combo?
    Another little problem is 1/10th looking front rims and tires. Something that looks roughly vintage and will fit the front axle stubbs with bearings. I like what you got on the front.

    To rectify your steering geometry you need to tilt your axle back ( increase the caster angle). believe me I went through this with a full size T Bucket I had.

    Awesome! I recently finished a hand made hotrod build... I did everything by hand in all aluminum... chasis, steering and all... i did however use and convert/customize a full alu independent suspension kit for a tt01 from yeah racing...
    The body I made from scratch out of styrene sheets... my first time working with styrene... awesome experience, definetly not my last build.
    Thanx for loads of inspiration... Next time I will definetly have to setup a camera on my workbench to make some timelapse build videos like you do! :)

    If you looking for colored window plastic. Try using transparent colored folder or binders. There cheap and can get them from walmart. Easy to cut and bent. I have used it to make guards on my redcat volcano between the body and frame.

    Go to any guitar or drum shop, they should sell colored lexan for the lighting systems used for gigs at bars & concerts. I ran lights for a band and got mine at a drum shop who carried all that stuff.

    Maybe some shock hoops to drop front just a hair and give it the gasser look with a touch of rake to it? You by far are more of an expert than me in this field but I feel it need a little nose down to complete the look. I am sure I just added eleventeen new complications to the build, honestly trying to help! Love the videos and your creativity... I really want to put some effort into making my own custom builds... I just have to get over the anxiety of chopping up existing stuff to make new stuff!

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol. I am aware of all the stance issues. That’s why I’m going to make a new chassis. Just trying to work out what all it’s going to take to get the front end geometry better. The major setback is always the limitations of available rc components. The front has to come down to correct the angles but the rear can’t go much lower without cutting into the body more😬 may have to change the tire size. Lol. That’s the fun in these builds though. Working through all the obstacles.

    No nose, orange glass to match the engine and a set of wheelie bars and leave it as a static?

  • @Nickwillfixit
    @Nickwillfixit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Lose the front shocks and replace with an inverted leaf spring that will sort the camber and bump steer and be more scale. Windows need to match the engine, and the tunnel ram would look good on this.

  • @noname-jr1vo
    @noname-jr1vo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I build for realz race cars. Your front axle isn't at the right pitch so when it steers it pulls tow in. And when the car takes off it will do a phenomenon known as bump steer where the car will want to turn instead of go straight when load is taken off the front. But the axle should be flat and level with the steering rod.

    I've been waiting since oct to get a motor mounting plate for that transmission, and the scale V8 won't look right under the hood of a Mack truck. For the window tinting, check Hobby Lobby they have colored film over with the models and model paints. Its like a decal kind of paper just cut peal and stick.

  • @stoneyswolf
    @stoneyswolf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ya the front suspension definitely needs to be redone. Needs leaf springs and it's too far forward. The angle of the front axle is giving it way too much negative caster. Whicked cool build a gasser style fuel tank up front might be the perfect place to hide a steering servo if you can make it work or hide it in the body and run lineage from there.

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately it doesn’t all come from one place. The rear axle and things like this v8 engine are from Rc4wd.com. The front axle is from a tamiya 1/14 scale semi truck like the king hauler. Suspension stuff is just 4 link rods from Rc4wd rigs like the gelande 2. Chassis are hand made. Bodies are 3d printed.

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This one is 3d printed. My guy that had all these bodies quit the business unfortunately. There is a version of this on shapeways but it’s over $200 last I saw. I think proline racing has some vintage style lexan bodies now. Or if you can find the 90’s Parma hemi coupe body.

      It could be made to fit a crawler but it’s smaller and would take some work rearranging the chassis to hide everything. These are 3d printed and unfortunately my friend that did them for me quit. The files are out there just have to find someone to print it for you.

    The only thing that sucks about this build. Is that junky old chevrolet engine. I love your work bro. You have hands down the best shop and the coolest builds and the best testing ideas on the internet maybe even the whole World. But I have this thing with the SBC engine. Especially at car shows. When I see a cool old Ford coupe a Nash a Rambler a Willis and any other bad ass looking rig with that cheap welfare SBC it makes my blood boil. Those dudes put tens of thousands of dollars in interior and body work paint and other things that make their project unique. And then they throw the cheapest off the shelf crate engine available and a chrome dress up kit in something that was really skookum. And fuck it all up. GOD bless
