At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Man, currently watching episode 110 (or something), I had kinda forgotten, how breathtakingly beautiful young Hurrem was. And how good looking the Sultan. And I miss Nigar and the rest of the old crowd 🥺. Gülsha, forever casting dirty looks and spying after people. Hatice, still so sweet and innocent. Hafsa Valide, the 'grand dame' of the harem. Sighs.

Well, I I watched a lot of shorts, before I finally committed to watching the whole darn thing. So I already know (roughly) how things end for the main characters. It's pretty intense, though, still. But you really do need to watch the whole show, to actually understand why things went the way, they did. I just miss the 'fun' of the earlier episodes. The show used to be much more lighthearted.

If only it wasn't so time consuming! I'm at it since September or so, now. And it's not something, I can watch watch while doing other stuff, because I need to read the subtitles. I'm kinda looking forward to having time for something else again, soon 😅

Malicious compliance some. "I will not forget I said that. As you command Sultana" - with a deeeeeeeeeeep curtsey and a catty smile. And Hurrem made it VERY clear who is now calling the shots. She arranged a party, and everyone had fun. But when Mahidevran appeared and learned who had arranged it - she wanted to stop the entertainment. Spoilsport. Shame on you. Jassak - forbidden! ;-) She didn't gain any friends then.
The real kicker is that if Mahidevran does try to stop it, Hurrem can ask: “we’re celebrating Suleyman’s return… aren’t you happy he’s home? 😊”

Hurrem got that power because, Every time she did something wrong Suleiman might have punished her, but it was soon forgotten. So she got braver, hence the statement “I’m not afraid of anyone”.

@@neroliehemara6287We could say the same thing about Mahidevran who “took” the sultan from Gulfem? On top of that, the sultan was sleeping with many other concubines before Hurrem. There were multiple favorites in the harem and Validae both arranged and sent out concubines to halvet for the sultan. Mahidevran had the special privileges because she was the only one to have a healthy and living child by him, as there were issues with keeping the babies alive during this time period for various reasons. She was hardly ever the only one he was sleeping with though, the only reason why she hated Hurrem was because the sultan actually fell in love with her & gave her the same privileges even before giving him a son, the traditions followed before were changed with Hurrem. Which is a good thing, because let’s be honest this whole harem thing is not in a woman’s best interest. A man keeping a bunch of slaves fighting for his attention etc

In real life, the title Haseki Sultan was created for Hurrem. Mahidevran was only ever a Hatun, but if we are to go by the TV show I’m assuming they eventually gave her the title when she married the sultan and became a free woman 🙏🏼
But to answer your question, it most likely had to do with the age of her sons as Mahidevran’s son was of a certain age and prior to that the only one who was able to keep him alive as many children unfortunately died for various reasons.

Each boy has the power to rule the dynasty. If Hurrem gave birth to only Mihrimah, she wouldn't have as much power as Mahidevran did(That is if Suleiman ever stopped loving her), who already had a son. Having a boy is like having a shield around you, but also puts them in the spotlight of danger.
It was better for her to have only girls, the boys were supposed to be killed by the brother that gets to the throne.

Hurrem was the Sultans greatest love, she never wanted to place anyone on the throne other than the Sultan. She didn't care who would rule after him, she just wanted her children to survive. Mahidevil was power hungry and couldn't stand that the Sultan wasn't in love with her. instead of raising her son to be strong and loyal to his father. She chose to hate, caused doubt between father and son and to fill Hurrems mind with the evil deeds she planned to do to Hurrem and her children. Mahidevran caused Hurrem to become a monster with the help if ibrahim and Valide. In the end, they were not cunning nor strong enough to take down Hurrem.
