In the 70s, I had a 16th birthday party, and my mom planned things like making ice cream, decorating cookies (I'm a December child), and a huge spread of food. No alcohol. No weed. All my friends were DESPERATELY sophisticated and "adult" at the time, which was that cleaving point between the innocent and the not in US society.
Probably needless to say, everyone came prepared to be bored, but without exception they had a blast. Great food, easy but fun activities, no stress. People came up to me 20 years later remembering that party.
Go on, give them beer!!
